Avalanche OBX headers, cam, Spintech 9000

Some of you may know about my recent engine rebuild related to a collapsed lifter. Here is a video after a complete bottom to top rebuild including physical removal of AFM system, bigger cam and headers.

Had a lifter problem a few months ago. Cost me 3k dollars+ to get it fixed. When I start it up, it still makes noise, but after it warms up, it runs just fine. I also have a problem with the fuel management system not working. I think that If I have another problem, I'm gong the way you went with LS6 lifters. The clatter worries me all of the time. I'm also thinking of going with the y exhaust system. Don't want to do a complete rebuild, the cost if too excessive for us. Try a muffler delete. They sound great, and don't cost much! Beautiful truck! Mine is an '09 solid white LT with all of the bells and whistles, over 215K miles. After hearing it, you don't need the muffler delete. It sounds fantastic! Thank you for doing these videos. Great information! PS, watch for the oil pressure sensor problem. It will throw off several different things....

Coolant has come a long way. The green is dex "friendly" and has been for years now. Over ten years ago, mixing them would've caused a sludge. Even if that was the case, this engine was completely rebuilt so there was no orange left in the system. Truck is still running strong to this date.

You do realize the entire engine was rebuilt so all fluids was removed. Most coolants can now be mixed with dexcool now. Been that way for years now.

Dexcool I mean DexKill is hard on water pumps, seals, gaskets it really deteriorates plastic based gaskets and head gaskets. Its not it's not as good as the Green stuff.Dexcool was made mostly because of environmental reasons. The green antifreeze is the best as long as it's changed about every 2 years .Alot of people flush out the orange and replace it with the green even in brand new cars.

@@graveshaker Which website did you use for buying your rebuilt engine? How much did it cost for the motor including labor? I ask because I am planning on getting a high mileage avalanche with a good body and just swap the motor as soon as I get it, granted the tranny is fine.

@@spiderpimp33 I took it to a local guy I found on Craigslist. His ad outlined the notorious failure rate with these motors. He knew exactly what was going on. With parts and labor included machine work on heads was about $4000 and change. Mind you, I went a little overboard on the build but figured, since it was open, may as well put a loppy cam in.
