Hi Emmie, I discovered your channel about a month ago. I don’t know which video it was that I saw, but the way you speak about literature, characters, authors… it reignited the reader in me. I used to read so much during my childhood, teenage years and early 20s. Then my life took a different turn and I gave up reading for almost 10 years. After I watched your video the other day I have started reading again. I am once again able to focus on a book and submerge myself in the magic of whatever story the author is telling me. I am so, so thankful that I stumbled upon your channel. Thank you for your videos, your recommendations and for all the love and good vibes you give to your subscribers! A thankful viewer, M.

I also absolutely loved Phantom of the Opera when I read it! I loved the mystery of it all and how the narrator was a detective. The musical is fun, but the original story has so much more...more depth and layers and just way more engaging. I remember being just totally transported with the descriptions of the opera house and all the architecture. I need to read it again, thanks for mentioning it!

Hello Emmie :)I noticed that you said you don't have a lot of mangas that you absolutely adore, and I dont know if anyone else has recommended or if you've already tried to read this but, Witch Hat Atelier is one of my absolute favorites so far, I think I'm only on like the 3rd volume, but let me tell you...the artwork? Beautiful, it's like no other manga I've seen, like the typical panels you normally have...the artwork itself makes the book look like some sort grimore or ancient book you've picked up, and the storyline? Wonderful world building that really delves into the magic system it has, along with its limits and opportunities for growth. It's amazing and I cannot recommend it enough, if you ever feel like giving it a try. :) Oh, and thank you for the recommendations!

I took a page out of your previous solve a mystery video and did my own little solve Wednesday when it premiered on Netflix. I watched about three or four episodes, and then I wrote down my solution of the case and sealed it in an envelope. I got some of it right and more of it wrong, and it was a fun time. Hemming and hawing (mentally) once the clues start rolling in about half-way through made me appreciate the skill put into the mystery. Thank you for the inspiration.

I just recently read The Phantom of the Opera because of your constant recommendation of it and it was utterly beautiful I particular love the way Leroux describes musical sounds(usually made by Erik) often as other-worldly like for example "I had no idea what to make of those unforgettable sounds which, if they weren't pouring directly out of heaven, gave no indication of where else they could be coming from. Not from the here below, that's for sure, for there was neither instrument nor hand nor bow on earth capable of it." When people have that sort of way with words it does something to me and brain just forgets how to function I swear to god 😂

I really think you would love Mushishi, a gentle, melancholic, super atmospheric, sometimes heartbreaking manga about living in harmony with the natural world. Unfortunately it is literally impossible to get physical copies at reasonable prices, but there are ebook versions available. Normally I hate reading manga/graphic novels/etc in ebook form, but Mushishi is an absolute masterpiece, a very very rare thing in the manga/anime world imo, and it's worth reading in any format you can get your hands on. The anime adaptation is also absolutely incredible, if watching anime is your thing. Possibly even better than the manga because of how much more it can do with atmosphere through animation and sound.

I don't have a "cozy" book... but I do have a book that I return too for comfort. I re read this every time that I am sick, or feeling unsure of myself, or depressed. It's "The Thornbirds" by Colleen McCullough. I truly can't tell you the number of times that I have read this book. Every time I read it, I feel like I am visiting family. Without giving spoilers it ends up being a bit of a sad book, but... I love it. I love them. I miss them when I go to long without reading about them (the characters)... OH WAIT!! I take that BACK! I DO actually have a cozy book... it's Wuthering Heights... Man.... THAT is my cozy book!!

I cannot say that I have to read certain books for a given season, but I do enjoy finding a comfortable place to read and feel like I am in an appropriate atmosphere. You made some pretty comfortable selections and Mary's Monster especially catches my attention. It kind of reminds me of the structure of an Ellen Hopkins book where each chapter is written in verse and takes on its own story. The Aggie Morton series sounds cute. I would like to read more by Agatha Christie and am left to wonder if all of her books could or have been bound up like the collection you have. For now, I am acquiring as many as possible in used paperback for incredibly cheap. I came across a complete collection of Jane Austen, but decided against purchasing it, while I did read The Phantom of the Opera awhile back, but it really did not stick with me. Aria looks quite intriguing, despite the fact that I do not read manga. Thank you for sharing your recommendations and I hope you read even more great books this autumn! -Josh

Highly recommend The Skull by Jon Klassen. It is beautifully illustrated and reminds me of my favourite childhood book (also recommend) In a Dark, Dark Room compiled by Alvin Schwartz and illustrations by the Dirk Zimmer.

Books I can highly recommend for autumn: Halloween Party by Agatha Christie (Poirot in his whole greatness), The book that wouldn't burn by Mark Lawrence (I started last week, gave me peace already), The last devil to die by Richard Osman (so funny and heart-warming, my therapy surrogate when feeling blue and mentally worn out) , The queen of the damned by Anne Rice (the vampire chronicles, love the series and especially Lestat) and of course The return of the king by Tolkien (epic)

omg! I read The Book That Wouldn't Burn as well and it easily is the best read of the year for me! More people should talk about this book and I can't wait for the sequel 🥹

@@emmiereads the second book of the vampire chronicles, The vampire Lestat, is an absolute masterpiece. She explains a lot about the origins of the vampires, what made this world more coherent. Because of that liked it even better than Interview with the vampire😎

Your videos are very cozy. They have inspired me to get back into reading, my first love. I'm in a Pirate/Mythology frame of mind. Reading Agatha Christie's The ABC Murders, the third and forth books of The Raven Cycle and Pirates, Ghosts and Coastal Lore: The Best of Judge Whedbee. I really want to watch Pirates of the Caribbean and The Goonies again.

Aria is currently out of print. A few years ago RightStufAnime did a kickstarter for a series Masterpiece reprint and those are probably your best bet at finding copies. It even has the series Aqua, which Aria follows as part of the collection. I have that set and it is beautiful. It's called Aria The Masterpiece collection. Seven omninus volumes. Best of luck hunting them down. Currently all the complete sets I could find is a stupid amount.
