AutoPots In The Greenhouse

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I received Christmas very early this year. I now have a 6 pot system by AutoPot in the greenhouse. I will be showing you how to put it together and how it works in this video. If I get the same results in this greenhouse as James Harrison gets at Green Evolution Thailand you will be amazed. Take a look and let me know your thoughts!

    I have known about the auto-pot system for years, wanted to use them, but never seen a KZread prove their awesomeness. I am very glad you are making this documentary of your auto-pot experience. I will be watching. 😁

    Autopots are really great. I own the easy2grow with 8,5 and 15l pots. The only thing you have to remember is the fertilizer. It has to be something for hydro. Tried this with Hesi for soil. The little thin nipples gets congested of the Hesi stuff. Then I changed to Green House Seed Powder Feeding. No problems at all. Plants love this system! And me too, I don´t have to water my plants every day :-)

    I started using a similar system 4-5yrs ago. It was 1 reservoir for 2 pots. The system was designed for basically stealth growing of mary jane. Here in the PNW, we don't get rain for the summer 90+ days. Mine have a copper screen in the bottom by the float to stop algae growth. I might have 1 pair left, gave the other's away.

    Chuck, when you went over the valve, the top valve with the 2 cylinders ~ did you know the round disc tops come off and you can add a little water so they don't fill as much? I never used them that way but that's something I was told.

    I noticed that James has switched to white pots. When I got mine, I was concerned about the dark color as I'm growing out in the sun. My plants didn't do well and I feel it was due to the heat inside the root ball. I now feel that straight coco fiber (preloaded) would alleviate my issue.

    He went to the white pots for micro-algae that he is using (he infuses them into the biochar). The algae needs a certain amount of sunlight to breed. I believe that's right? Chuck

    Really looking forward to seeing how this works for you. So it is gravity feed from the tank but is that one way, nothing ever returns to the tank or recycles. Do you use soil as a growing medium in the pots?

  • @FensterfarmGreenhouse

    @FensterfarmGreenhouse

    7 жыл бұрын

    That is correct. It flows to the trays until it is fully taken up buy the plant before it refills the tray. I will be using a mix consisting of horse manure, rice hulls, and biochar. I am learning as i go here Dale. James Harrison from Green Evolution Aquaponics Thailand is my mentor! Chuck

    I've experiment with both potting mix and perlite with the potting mix a cut the nutrients by 50%all I really needed to was allow wicking but nutrient helped rejuvenate the potting mix. it meant I could get a full season out of a pot with potting mix. That would have to be a personal preference rather than a hard & fast rule Perlite works great equally but the nutrient strength has to be increased. Most potting mixes are good for 8 to 12 months. I'm soon going to trial potatoes in a different style pot with valve a potting mix that will be an experimental thing

    Chuck I like the look of that valve system. Wonder how it would work with substituting fabric pots for air pruning of roots to prevent girdling.

  • @FensterfarmGreenhouse

    @FensterfarmGreenhouse

    I believe that it would work just fine. You may go through more nutrients from evaporation but evaporation is kind of the point with air pruning isn't it! lol Chuck

    I like the look of the autopot system, however in England anything manufactured is pricey. I've recently found a guy doing Alaska grow buckets, perhaps you will check him out as his system is gravity fed.

    It works out about 15 pound a pot in the uk. You don't need the water butt, and any 6mm hose will work, you just need a filter. I'm surprised hoselock doesn't do something like this tbh. One float fills the pot to a set level, the other float is an air lock that holds water in the float chamber until the pot is nearly empty thus keeping the float up. as soon as the level drops far enough it lets air in, that lets the chamber drain, the float drops and the water floods in.

    Had to take another look at your system which I went out and purchased however rather than tanks or reservoirs I purchased the Autopot® Smart Pump Set It's supposed to run up the copied off Auto Pot Australia's web page mine is quite this big pressurises the feed line so that you can position a growing module anywhere you can place the tubing. This means that you are no longer limited by the logistics of having to locate all your growing modules beneath where you position your gravity tank. As the 12V pump works by detecting a drop in pressure, as soon as a Smart-valve begins to release another cycle of water to a growing module, this will trigger the pump to start delivering water and nutrients down the line until the feed line re-pressurises (i.e. when each Smart-valve in the system becomes closed after having been filled) I'll leave a link for you. these guys were the inventor of the original autopot concept. A guy by the name of Jim Farr www.autopot.com.au/smart-pump

    @@FensterfarmGreenhouse this is the little baby I've bought www.gardensmartshop.com/Smart_Pump_p/556a.htm, It'll run hanging baskets as high as 20 feet up. Because it automates the nutrient flow it frees up time. I purchased transformer and an electronic timer to control the entire system

The entire autopot system was developed in Australia and has been around for over 20 years. www.gardensmartshop.com/Smart_Pump_p/556a.htm
