    Great video, especially helps with layered clothing, not having to deal with weight transfers and cleanups is a lifesaver. I mostly work with humanoid robots as the one you showcase - is there any chance you can make a video of rigify and (partly) mechanical models? I always have issues parenting certain parts to single bones while also having to create weights for other parts, like a jacket

    Love the video. I have a question about rigging the knee that you talked about. Is this an auto rig pro rig? If so, when you attach loose parts to bones .How exactly are you you doing that in ARP? I love your content btw.

  • @maybenutt4y

    @maybenutt4y

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your support man! I'm using the Rigify which is built in Blender by default, not Auto Rig Pro add-on. To be clear, in this method, loose parts are NOT directly attached to the bones. The "parenting" hierarchy is: 1. Original model with loose parts are "attached" to a container model (which is one single piece of mesh) through the Mesh Deform modifier. 2. The container model is rigged by the armature/bones 3. So when the bones move and control the container model, the movement will be transfered to the original model.

    It's really helpful. Thank you! But how can I apply the modifier to th high poly mesh without losing the rig?

  • @maybenutt4y

    @maybenutt4y

    Жыл бұрын

    Good question! The modifier is only a "bridge" to transfer the deformation data from the low poly container to the high poly mesh. When you apply the modifier, you are removing the bridge which means the high poly mesh stops receiving the deformation. Think about it this way: 1st step - you rig and keyframe to animate the low poly container mesh, the low poly mesh is deformed by the rig 2nd step - the low poly mesh deforms the high poly mesh through the modifier So, the rig doesnt deform the high poly mesh directly, bcoz it never has direct connection to the high poly mesh. If you apply the modifier, the rig is still on the low poly mesh, but now you dont have that bridge to transfer the deformation. In simple words, I dont think you can, or you should, apply the modifier without "losing" the rig on the high poly mesh.

    Interesting scenario, but how does your remesh model have gaps? The logic should be that: your original model has loose parts or gaps, so you create another layer of remesh model which closes those gaps, then why would you cut new gaps on your remesh model?

    I wonder how you'd make this work if you were exporting to a game engine. I guess you'd just have to do the weight painting, but I wonder if there's some (script) process by which you could take the mesh deform and original weights and bake out the weights onto the complex model

  • @maybenutt4y

    @maybenutt4y

    9 ай бұрын

    Unfortunately this trick cant be exported to other software directly bcoz this is using blender's native modifier in real time - when you export something, you have to "apply" the modifier first, but in this trick the modifier is calculating in real time, once applied, it's gone and it wont work anymore. However, I think it could be very possible to recreate this trick in other 3D software using their own native features, I'm just not that experienced in them. You could try to search their tutorials see if anyone has already come up with the solution :)

    thanks man! unfortunately I dont think you can directly transfer this setup into unreal engine, because it's using blender's native modifiers, which is not a universal feature across different 3D softwares. you may have to check some unreal engine tutorials to see if it has similar functions, and try to recreate the setup using unreal's native features :)

    hmm... damn it, i'm in the making of a fan-art 3d model of ExMachina movie, the entire design, up to 2.3Million poly right now with more than 100 pieces and i was thinking on using this but my pc is old as fck and i'm already having issues while working on the project itself, how usefull is to reduce that Precision value before the calculation? i'll finsh the model in like 3-4 days anyway, but just to be aware if i can use this method or better go try something else :P (even if that require manual weight painting)

  • @maybenutt4y

    @maybenutt4y

    3 жыл бұрын

    man 2.3M poly with 100 pieces is too much to rig... retopology would be the best way. But you could always try this method first, reducing the Precision value can be quite useful in some cases, but I doubt it works in your case as your model is so complex... but yeah, try it first, if it crashed then you do the retopology :)

  • @MattproThe

    @@maybenutt4y I see... and if i have the chance to join several pieces into one mesh, would that make it better? even if the polycount is high? becase i do like... high poly models, deailed as much as posible :/

  • @maybenutt4y

    @maybenutt4y

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@MattproThe joining many pieces into one mesh can work only if you are going to mannually do the weight painting. Considering the large number of poly and pieces of your model, automatic weights directly rigging the original model will probably NOT work. Because the one mesh has too many loose parts, Blender dosent know how to weight paint disconnected vertices. Yeah high poly model is visually great, but sometimes you need to optimize (retopology) it for rigging, and saving your computer resource. Another trick worthmentioning, if your are dealing with a hard surface model, e.g, robot, its joints are not going to bend like human joints. For example, you can simply parent his forearm to the forearm bone. The only thing you need to worry is to design the elbow, so when the forearm moves the elbow's movement still makes sense.

    @@maybenutt4y Ok, thanks for the information man, i appreciate, i'll see what can i do with the model.
