I really liked the printed parts! Haven't seen anything quite as innovative on the tube. The idea of switches anytime you open a gate gets a thumbs up. I've seen the remotes that can turn on a unit, your idea eliminates one less step, finding the remote and activating it. I use a cyclone unit, but I vent my exhaust either to the outside via a window or connect it into the 20" central ductwork that hangs from the ceiling. Most exhausts go through a hepa filter because that is where most of the fine particles end up. I would vent your system to the outside for your lungs sake. Quite a bit of dust escaped with the el cheapo 20 x 25 filters. A new set of lungs clock in at 400k.

Thank you! glad you like it. Shortly after posting the video I changed the system up and vented the exhaust outside, works way better and I'm free to damage my health in more fun ways

love the auto-on gates, wish they were sold as u-assemble kits, so old fogeys like ne with no 3D printer could put them to use!

One of the best videos I have seen from a smaller channel. Narration was perfect and great video quality and editing! Great designs for the dust hoses and printed parts. That relay idea is genius, as it also kinda reminds you to turn off(or shut the lid) the dust collection.

The 3 d printed adapter you made! I accept your challenge! At Lowes home improvement in plumbing section where corrugated French drain is located the couplers for that drain tube works perfectly just break off the tabs on the inside of the coupling. Now the exhaust of the blower on mine I used the ring where the dust distribution bag was. I replaced it with the Wynn environmental.03 micron filter that is where I employed the coupling. Unlike yours you connected to a PVC pipe. I did that until my filter arrived I had a rubber coupling that fit between the two pipes.🤣🛫

Looks like we have a lot of the same tools - I'm printing your mag coupler, as I type - if it works as well as a suspect, I'll be sure to tip you on thingiverse. Need to see about that 14" bandsaw (mine is old enough to not have any ports for dust collection - but a magnet-mount cup underneath would be nice), the radial arm saw throws so much dust, and my current "Fig bar box with wood chunk reinforcement" kind of works but is janky as all get out. Keep up the good work - your videos are well-paced and informative. Thanks for taking the time and effort!

6:30 and this is why I'm /not/ a fan of zip tying things. You never know when you need to take it apart again and now you wasted some plastic. Velcro and twist wire (like you get with EVERY electronics cable ever) can be reused and work just as well. Aside that, a really nice design and I can relate to /not/ wanting to walk over to the collector to switch it each time 👍 11:12 definitely a keeper. Good thing you already found her 💝 18:00 when you re-discover your past sins..... but as bad as it was done, it was apparently working "well enough" for years, so it wasn't /that/ bad.

A recent redesign has replaced those zip ties with a bolt-on clamp, much easier to replace!

Excellent video. The humour is a bonus to the actual work which is very good. Several responders have asked if you are going to make and sell the components for those of us who don’t have a 3D printer (and/or completely bemused by these kind of things). Hey Daveman! The inlet size of the Super DustDeputy cyclone is right at 5 1/16 inch. I just 3d printed a similar fitting for my cyclone to fit the 4in pvc. Great work on the relay and video!

I really love your magnetic connectors. As soon as my printer gets delivered I am making those. I also have a trash can mounted under my collector fan just like you do. It is currently pressed up to the seal with an inner tube and a couple of scraps of wood. Your lever idea is so much better.

Dude you have a serious leak in your vacuum side of the cyclone this is why you are getting all the dust out of the exhaust port! To find that leak use incense sticks that generate smoke I use 3 sticks at the time. I move the sticks around the suspect area and watch if the smoke is drawn in if so correct that problem. Every bit of your saw dust should be going in the waist bucket. 😀🛫

If I'm understanding your theory correctly, you're proposing that a leak or inefficiency at the top of the cyclone is causing the chips inside the cyclone to spin at an attenuated rate, resulting in poor dust/air separation? I think what's more likely is that I'm just getting too rowdy and pulling in way too much sawdust at once which overwhelms the system. I'll check for leaks anyway, never a bad thing to do PS: also I solved my exhaust problem a few months ago by just routing it outside lol. Paying more for heating and cooling is cheaper than lung cancer

thoroughly enjoyed this and learned things as well. After going through a cyclone, my Harbor Freight dust collector blows the exhaust through a port to the outside.

Fantastic! And that switch ... too funny. Happens to me all the time too. Great ideas. Might print some of the couplers or maybe remix.

I like your system better than mine. I bought a "20amp smart plug" and wired it to a dedicated breaker. Then I bought an "echo dot." I yell, "Alexa, turn on vacuum" or "Alexa turn off vacuum." (I had to add the smart plug and echo dot to my house network.)

Naturally he starts with a video about how good he sucks. Love this system Dave, nice work!

I bought the stl files for the magnetic hose connectors and the fit on 4" schedule 40 PVC is perfection. I was close to building my own for it, but came across this and the money was well spent. If anyone is looking for a perfect fit on standard 4" schedule 40 PVC this is it.

@@brunomelli4679 about 2hr 45min for each of the two parts. that's with .24mm, and doing the recommended: "6 perimeters, 6 top shells, 6 bottom shells, at least 30% cubic infill" (I did 30%). I put the compression ring in the same print as the south ring because I can get them to both fit. It only adds about 15 minutes.

@@atomictyler Wow, you have a fast printer. With the default Cura settings on my Creality CR10s Pro V2, the north and south rings would take 15 hours each. That's with a 0.4mm nozzle.

The actuation point of the microswitch will vary over time, and stop switching, unless pressed fully in, I (through bitter experience), now mount them with the face of the switch exposed so that the plunger can be pushed fully home.

You sir are absolutely correct, on both of your comments. I used to replace them about every 6 months. About a month ago I designed a new version that holds the switch in line with the intended direction. Once these new ones survive some testing in my shop, everyone who has bought my files will be given the revision for free

I have seen 100+ systems and I like yours the best. You dont seem to be considering either patenting or manufacturing these. In any event...I think it would sell.

Regarding strength of 3D prints: I generally like PETG for functional parts. It's a bit more flexible, but a lot tougher. PLA is stiffer, but tends to snap, and under load it "creeps", getting slowly reshaped over time.

Dave I have an older Delta bandsaw like your Jet. Would you mind sharing the STL for the part under the cutting surface?

Glad you enjoyed that one. The color is about 90% fun, and 10% functional (pairing hoses to their homes)

Awesome job man! Love the design! Can I pay you to modify your STL files for fitting on standard 4in/2.5in couplers? I'm in the process of setting up my shop and I think I'd rather go 3d printed than purchased connectors, I like your coupler design the best.

Not much point in a dust collection system that blows fine dust around your shop. Strongly suggest upgrading those filters to MERV 11 or 12, as the fine dust going through the current filters is the most dangerous. Otherwise very cool system...no doubt that those fittings would sell extremely well over what's currently available.

Is it a flexible spiral-spine hose like the ones in the video? and is it a true 2.5" outer diameter? Several people have asked me to develop that size, perhaps I should boot up the CAD machine

Duct tape is actually made for exactly what you are using it for.

Are you selling the actual dust shoot pieces as a package? If so I am interested in purchasing these, not just the files. Thank you....

It absolutely is, I reworked the system a few months after filming to vent straight outside and I love not dealing with filters, the airflow is better too!

Interesting but why not just use a remote? I have a contactor that turns my dust collector on and a remote that has the receiver connected to the coil which turns the dust collector on. The remotes have a magnet on the back and are very inexpensive on Amazon. I do prefer it over one that requires me to operate a gate to turn it on and off.

Personal preference I would say. Carrying a remote (or even clipping it to my belt) is minimally invasive for some, but I'm looking to reduce as many barriers to usage as possible, plus I have to open a gate no matter what, so it might as well do some work for me

Several months after filming this, I reworked the system to vent waste air directly out the window in my shop. It does impact my heating/cooling bills, but I've really found it worthwhile

I like the blast gates and generally flow but your collector is letting the worst and most dangerous dust through. It's the fine dust that gets lodged in your lungs that causes problems.
