Barney here. Jody doesn't ever really explain his lyrics, or if he does we are sworn to secrecy, but my personal interpretation is: I think we've all felt a bit beaten about by a relationship at one time or another - it doesn't have to be a romantic one either. Some people just make it hard for you to love them, I guess.

I never thought that there would be a song about (presumably) parental trauma and abuse that simultaneously resonated with me so hard but also weirdly enough made me want to dance...

I personally love this song. It just feels like an incredible release. Like the pressure of forcing yourself through unnecessary pain or a harmful relationship, and you get a fresh breath of freedom and recognize that you yourself are a priority too. It's like the realization that you can't please everyone, but that's completely okay. It is harsh at first as is all change, but it teaches you an incredible amount and eventually becomes empowering.

They’re so dancey and I love it

Reckon this should be part of the soundtrack of that new TV show 'Looking' - would be perfect!

I've been thinking a lot about the lyrics today and I'm actually not sure it is about an abusive relationship? "I am Jekyll filled with disagreement you are Mr Hyde" I think it's more about internal struggles and trying to accept yourself for who you are while also beating yourself up over it
