Autofocus Settings Tutorial.

Autofocus Settings For Wildlife Photography. Sabine explains how the autofocus modes work and the autofocus settings which she uses the most. She also discusses how to select the focal points selection as well as how to change the autofocus tracking sensitivity. Although she is using a Canon camera, the settings for Nikon and Sony (as well as all the major brands) are included in her video.

Sabine, I see that many have already commented on your excellent training video and I wholeheartedly agree! I'm a technical trainer myself and have to say you have presented these focusing topics better than anyone I've seen. Your teaching technique promotes ease of learning through "best" order of topics, from simple to complex, presenting the problem to be addressed by each setting, easy-to-understand, unhurried "translations" of the technical terms, presenting live views of the results of the settings to reinforce the concept, explaining the pros and cons of each setting and including your personal choice along with the reasons. I've seen several Pangolin tutorials and they all are well designed and well presented. The Pangolin staff have apparently been well-trained in delivering educational presentations. Can you tell me anything about that training? Thank you for such a wonderful, educational experience! I look forward to all the Pangolin tutorials. Once the pandemic is under control, I will consider a trip to Africa to join one of your photographic safari's.

Another excellent tutorial on today's incredibly capable but somewhat complex and confusing auto focus systems. For years I ran custom boat tours for nature and wildlife photographers and I lost count of how many times I discovered that they had literally no understanding of how their camera's autofocus systems worked. It may be time consuming and at times frustrating to fully understand the many focusing options available in your camera but it is essential that you do so as these features will if set incorrectly totally destroy image quality. Watch this video 4 times then read your camera's manual 4 more. Then experiment and find the settings that work best for you!

One focus setting lots of people don’t know about is “ use back focus button .. “ best to use when photographing wildlife . You can set the focus button separate from the shutter button thus saving time and having to refocus if you change your composition . Once you press your back focus button for focus on your subject it will stay locked on while you recompose keeping your subject still in focus . Once you set your camera up using back focus I assure you that you never regret this method ! But this tutorial you guys have done is excellent so well done you all from Pangolin 👏👏👏👍👌🏻

G'day Sabine. Well I have just finished watching this vid and I have to say that in my opinion I consider it excellent and right on target. Because I have had a little trouble with sharpness in my sport images I have spent the afternoon going through quite a few videos on using Autofocus for sport, action and wildlife. For me, apart from the fact that your a lot easier on the eye than the blokes I have been watching, yours was the best, the points you raised were both just what I needed and straight to the point without a lot of waffle. I haven't been to The Chobe but I have been to The Etosha in Namibia but that was during 1998/90 when I served with the Australian Army on a UN Mission so I really didn't have the time to enjoy it to the fullest. Loved the country and always wanted to go back. PS: Love you accent !! 😀

I need to understand why the AF settings, especially the Cases and its different settings is important and needs to be set. Very few of us use Zone AF or auto AF, and it is only in these selections where the AF settings take effect. I use a 7DII and a 5DIII with various L-lenses and would appreciate info to to be proven wrong. It would open a new capability for me. your presentation was very very thorough and very clearly explained. You did an excellent job of covering all the options and explained well why you might choose a particular option over others. You explained everything in simple terms and were easy to understand holding my attention. besides all the technical coverage you are very beautiful to watch as you cover the material. A very lovely looking photographer!!!

Sabine - Pangolin Photo Host I love to take pictures and try to do wildlife, but even with my EIS 5D Mark IV I miss the focus very often. Have to watch your video again and try all the things you have explained!

Excellent overview, I wish I had found this sooner. Now I’m confident that I can better photograph my swallows as they fly nearby. The “sticky” focus point is key.
