AutoCAD - How To Use Sheet Sets

This video goes over how to understand and use sheet sets. Sheet sets area a great way to find drawings quickly and keep them organized inside of a tree file system within AutoCAD.
00:00 Intro
00:39 What are Sheet Sets?
01:18 How to open the Sheet Set Manager
03:51 Creating a drawing
08:40 Printing a drawing
11:15 Rename and renumber a drawing
14:50 Importing an existing drawing
17:29 Removing a sheet
18:01 Sheet properties
24:46 Inserting a sheet list table (drawing index)
29:09 Making a new subset
And yes I realized I said "last thing" three times for the last few subjects. I should really start making a syllabus lol.

My company is actually paying a guy to give us an intro on SheetSets, and I found your video while prepping for that session. Now I doubt we need that session, and I could just show the other Techs how to use SheetSets. Thank you, this was perfect for my needs!

Awesome! Glad it could help. One day I swear I'll make the videos on how to make sheet sets from scratch lol. Then you'll really have an upper hand.

Thank you for this video! It helps me a lot. I hope you will create more videos about AutoCad. I'm still finding videos how to import Xcel files to Autocad, how to edit and how to create xcel tables.

Thanks for the great video. How can I have my folder in the correct order after I create the sheet set? I know I can grab and place them above or below a subset but I want them to already be in the order already.

Thanks for the video. If i use "sheet list table" to create a drawing list. Is there any way to merge data from 3 columns together? On our title blocks we have Desc 1 Desc 2 Desc 3. I can get the data to come in 3 columns, EXAMPLE MIGHT LOOOK LIKE: "01-CP-110X " "DESC 1-DESC 2-DESC 3". (merge these 3 columns together so it does not form columns) Hope this makes sense.

As far as I know there is not. However there might be a workaround. Sheet set tables follow standard table formatting. What you can do is select the cells for Desc 1, Desc 2, and Desc 3 and go to the borders in the table format. Then turn off the interior borders. This will make it look like one large cell.

So can you set different templates for different categories? How can i add sheets from outside contractor to the list? Is this set up available in auto cad LT?

Yes you can use different templates for each subset that you create. You can change the template for that subset by right-clicking on the subset and selecting Properties. You can import any drawing file into your sheet set including those from outside contractors. I do not know if this is available in LT because I have only ever used the full versions of AutoCAD.

I'm coming from SketchUp Pro 9SketchUp + layout) to Autocad, and you know - ACAD is jsut so needlessly clunky and complex. In Sketchup Layout, it was so simple to set up a set of sheets, with all the text automated, from title block information, to specification and annotation. Now I have no doubt that ACAD can do all this - but why do they make it so damn difficult? I'm fairly certain I can learn it myself - but how can I convince my Business Partner (and future employees) to also take to automation, if it's so clunky and time-consuming? Coming from Sketchup where everything was so simple and automated, to ACAD, is such a demoralising thing.

AutoCAD is a legacy software that has been built on over many years. It attempts to be a jack of all trades in regards to both 2D and 3D design. Because of this there isn't a lot of automaton in the base program. SketchUp, like other similar design software is most likely more purpose built and tailored to specific functions. For your purposes SketchUp may be better and the only advantage AutoCAD has is the broad user base.
