didn expect a reply from you this fast, thank you!! i just completed the first soccer ball:) i took a while cuz i read the comments here first and ppl were saying the polygon angle was 35 degrees but when I actually did it there was space in between the polygons when i did the first array. i went all the way back and did it ur way using the mirror function and when i checked it was 37 degrees. oh n it was really easy to learn but if your planning to make another vid, I appreciate it if u show the commands the whole time so ppl can catch up easily. but its still easy to understand so really thanks for that!

hi mufasu, your video is great, I am using autocad for 30 years in 2d, But I want to learn 3d, I am trying to understand 3d mirror how the mirror plane is formed or why not use rotate3d command instead. It's look like 'the first circle is rotated along y plane like 90 degrees. I want to understand mirror3d plane formation

  • @MufasuCAD

we use 3d mirror to get intersection between 2 circle with reference line (first point to second point, the third point you can click to the top), if use 3d rotate it will be hard to make it,, so the easy ways is use 3d mirror command

+Mufasu CAD Excuse me, I stood my question too hastily. Now I analyse your lesson step by step, because I study autocad these days. I stumbled in the moment, when you rotate the 6-side polygon, picking it to one of its 6 points, setting this point in the place of intersection of two circles, using the adjacent side with the neighbouring 5-side poly - as an axis. Further, you delete circles, and voila! - i go further now... I stretched this tutorial so long, because I an immature user, and made special lesson for each command I met in the beginning of your lesson. Particularly, I couldnt rotate the polygon, choosing axis by two points, and than - take any point of this figure - and put it to another place (by snaping) - I dont know why - but I used the 3dalign command - and now i go further. Sorry again, I meant the 6-side poly instead of 5-side in the first post.

Not making the most efficient use of symmetry, once the base 3D hexagonal sides are modelled final assembly should come quickly, there is no need to build it up vertically like that .... but in the end the ball does look gorgeous no doubt... good job =)

Jonah rea if using mirror command,,, you also need to move the object to make it fit,,, there is some options to move,,, by using rotate and then move commands or by using 3dalign command..
