Auto World Super III update

After some more tuning to the pickup shoes I have the Super III running pretty good.

Remember that you might need to rotate one of the traction magnets as they could be installed in "low downforce" position. Also remember that the traction magnets need to be in the correct orientation in relation to the motor magnets for higher downforce. If I remember right, you should be able to take the traction mags and allow them to stick to the left and right sides of the motor magnets as they are installed in the car and however the traction magnets want to stick most forcefully to the motor, that's the orientation that they need to have when installed so after you test that, whatever position the traction magnets are in, be sure not to rotate them from that orientation when you move them back to reinstall them. That might help get that dog to stick more.

Hey Ralph, good idea! I did not think to check if the preinstalled magnets were in high down force or not. I will check and do a before and after test on my down force meter. Thx.

I set the magnets to high down force mode. It helped a little, numbers went from 50 to 85 on my down force meter. The car is actually kind of fun to drive now.

Nice, man! Hey, I think these cars get too much flak, so, I got one one E-bay, mainly because it had awesome aluminum rims, paid less then they cost, they were on Tyco axles and crown gear, and, yeah, at first it was a dog! Noisy too, but was mostly from really hard tires, swapped those out put in a 3.5 ohm armature, WOW, what a difference!! Flys almost as fast as my V-spec!

Yes, they can be modified to run pretty good, better rear tires is a must, and a lot of tweaking of the pickup shoes on mine. Maybe the already assembled Super III is better than these kits?

@@marksslotcargarageYes Mark. I know about being a tinkerer, but if you had bought one of the newer, improved Super III cars you would have saved yourself some time. The older ones I have to tinker with them, the new ones, I don't touch them, just race them.

@@CarlosZorrillaThanks Carlos, I was reviewing the Pit Kit because someone gave one to me, I am glad to hear the pre-built Super III's run well out of the package. I may have to pick one up to test that for myself.

Timely upload for me. I want to get at least one of the chassis of each HO slot car and learn them. So my first purchase was a Super III deluxe pit kit that you pretty much build yourself. It went about 1/2 around the track very slowly and stopped cold and smoked. The directions on the box were terrible, no direction on how to orient/place magnets or anything left/right one with the stripe is which? I was going to let the grand kids assemble the kit but after reading the instructions I thought I should save the headaches and try it myself first, glad I did. Before putting on the track the motor was very stiff, but thought maybe it just needed broken in..... I can't get it to go around very well at all, the sound of the shoes is terrible, and wont even go down my AW drag track. Mine seems like it has too much magnet for the grossly under powered chassis as it runs now. I did not spend much time on it and will revisit it at some point, but not a good start for me.

Yeah I would stay away from Auto World if you are looking for something that will run well out of the package this is not it. After tweaking the pickup shoes the car runs much better but the whole thing was way more difficult that it should have been. I agree the direction could be better. I know what I am doing at it still took me a few tries to get it all right.

"Stopped cold and smoked"---That happen to me also. Very disappointing experience, but i like the AW indy cars and the super III plaform is all that works under them.

@@marksslotcargarage Part of the problem is I think voltage/amps. I have been trying to research what ranges each chassis runs at the best but no go. I have tri-power supplies with 8, 12, 22. I actually picked up a AW 4 gear Legends Quarter Mile funny car from Hobby Lobby today and it runs great out of the box. I wanted drag type cars and not sure what runs well on my set up. I am impressed with it for $20+tax. I will pick up another, they only had one other car and it's black and I hate running black on these black tracks. I am not sure if it's ok to run these at 22V but it was fast, almost beat one of my Mega G+ F1 cars on my 26' drag track. I have another tri power pack so I need to get the newer dual terminal track and see how they run. Oh and the funny car ran well on my 4 lane race track as well.

@@JDL_2020 The AW 4 gears seem to run ok, I have had good luck with them as well. The AW cars don't require a lot of current but more is always better. I run my track at 18.5 volts. I have a 30 volt variable 10 amp supply running my track. If you are on a budget and don't mind having to tweak them then AW is a good option. When you run Vipers and Wizzard cars everything else seems like a toy.

@@JDL_2020The problem with the tri power pack is 12 volts is too low and 22 is too high. Moving up to a better supply really helps, it's not that hard to splice the AFX terminal connector to a better supply.

I assume using a stock 120 ohm controller? Is it only one of the two cars acting this way or do they both do it? Do you have any other cars?
