I adore ALL of Philp's books, especially his Bernie books. His research, knowledge, wit and wonderful writing style produce reading experiences that cannot be topped. I mourn his premature passing and feel the sad loss of not being able to read any more from him.

I will truly miss his writing and really his ability to give such a cynical yet lovable character as Bernie to life. Philip Kerr to me will be the finest writer of true human character and passion with grit and soul.

Phil's tragically early death robbed us of one of the UK's finest writers.

While watching/listening to this long interview I was shocked to learn Kerr died of cancer in March, 5 years younger than me. Perhaps he fell ill not too long after this interview, to have died by March, 2018. I'm nearing the end of my first Philip Kerr novel, Prussian Blue, very interested in his fictional treatment of the Nazis and Germany under their reign.

Towards the end of the novel Kerr refers to Hans Castorp. This was of course a reference to Thomas Mann's "Magic Mountain".There is a real life person called Proffessor Gastorp. He was victim of brain washing in China in the fifties in the book by Robert Jay Lifton's book "Thought Reform.".

I find it very interesting that three of the crime writers often referred to in this piece by the moderator are Scottish - Kerr, Doyle & Val (McDermid). Indeed, Aye.

And just as interesting, Kerr left Scotland aged 2, was educated and lived and died in England. Doyle lived, worked and died in England. McDermid was educated at Oxford University and lives in England.
