Thank you for sharing. Long live Dunham Technique.
Mrs. Katherine Dunham is smiling right now ~~ Thank you Danielle ~~
The lady with the blue turtleneck is really good 🩵
beautiful! so inspiring to see! wow to live a life of legacy as miss Dunham did is truly the goal and the epitome of human existence
I was told that only 30 people have been certified as Dunham trainers over the last 30 years that’s too bad. The pioneers should do more to preserve her heritage

Hi Olowa, thank you for your comment. I am aware that the training and certification process has been a critique/concern for people in dance communities. I cannot speak for the Institute of Dunham Technique Certification (IDTC), but they are active and for anyone interested or with inquiries or concerns regarding Dunham Technique teacher training and certification I recommend visiting www.dunhamcertification.org. My affiliation has primarily been with Katherine Dunham Centers for Arts and Humanities (KDCAH) which includes the Dunham Museum, Children’s Workshop, and the annual Dunham Technique seminar held in Saint Louis. KDCAH is independent from IDTC - although both organizations share in the mission of preserving the Katherine Dunham legacy. Miss Ruby Streate is a Master Dunham Instructor and pioneer who has served in the East St. Louis Community for over 30 years from the Performing Arts Training Center (PATC) and as Artistic Director of the Children’s Workshop and more. This workshop in San Francisco was an example of her dedication to preserving Miss Dunham’s legacy and ensuring that her contributions, including to East St. Louis, Illinois is not forgotten.
OMG! This looks amazing! I'd love to attend a class!

Hi Anna, Miss Dunham began developing the Dunham technique in the early 1930s a combination of her ballet and modern dance training and her anthropology research on the dances, rhythms and cultures of the Afro-Caribbean as well as American/Black social dances from the jazz era.
