Autel X-Star battery wont charge? Simple way to get them to charge.

If you have Autel X-Star batteries that wont charge you may be able to give them a boost to get the Autel battery chargers to acknowledge the battery when it is connected to the charger and recharge the battery.
I have been able to bring 5 batteries back to full charge and I am in the process of test flying them to see how well they are holding a charge. The batteries ranged from 0.68 volts to 2.87 volts which is why the Autel charger would not pickup on the battery when it was connected to the charger.
When doing the boost I mentioned running the batteries in series, which was incorrect, they are connected in parallel, which I did state correctly, positive to positive(+ to +) and negative to negative (- to -).
*Warning* Use your discretion and be cautious if you attempt this, lipo batteries can cause fires or even explode.
Today I have had several successful flights and with the recharged batteries. I have logged the normal 20 plus minutes per battery that you would expect from newer batteries.

Just fixed 2 like this and they were both not charging at 5 ish volts. I've jumped a ton of lipos this way but I found a teardown on a Facebook X-Star group showing me - left + right with the button on the bottom. Good times, youtube watched and recommended me here. Cheers!

Thank you for the video!! My X-Star drone has been sitting in a closet for over a year due the battery would not charge and I am unable to find a replacement. I followed your steps and still was unable to get it to charge. I had to use a Lipo battery to jump start the X-Star battery as you did. I used only a 7.4v 5200mAh 2 cell 35c lipo from one of my R/C cars. I did not feel comfortable using a 3s or 4s battery. I did this outside in a open area. I jump started it 2 times each time for 10 seconds and Wala!!!! It worked right away!!!! I did use caution as you stated. You are a life saver!!! I cannot thank you enough for the video and I hope to get a few more flights from my drone.

Thanks so much for this! Been DYING to get my XStar back in the air again, but 7 batteries (2 had to be trashed due to major swelling), all not charging whatsoever from the Autel charger was deflating. However, one actually did charge from the Autel charger for some odd reason. I do recall however WAY back in late Oct. 2017, the final firmware for this drone came out, I had a bizarre oddity when my battery..which were working perfectly before that update went from 51% left to 2%..in about 1/2 second! Autel never released a patch for that...they simply discontinued XStar support for the most part (and purchase of these batteries!) and moved on to the Evo series. Ended up getting a Mavic Pro original, but honestly always loved the photo-video quality far better from this Autel.

I followed your instruction exactly except I didn't have a 12 volt supply so I used a regular 9 volt battery and it took a little to get the board and charger to recogninze each other but finally the charger green lite came on and a few more minutes with the 9 volt battery and the charger started working to charge the battery and I removed the 9 volt and at 14.6 volts the green lites on the battery came on. From there on the charger brough the battery up to 16.8 before it shut off. I forgot to say this battery was sitting for over 5 years and only had 0.6 volts when i checjked it before starting your procedure.. Thank you so much you saved my drone and batteries.

You are brilliant! I brought six batteries back to life. I'm not an engineer but I think the problem is that the Autel charger does not operate on batteries below a certain voltage. If they were to adjust their equipment, we would not be having this problem. On four of my batteries, I left the top off in casre I have to reboot them. As a next step, I'm wondering if I could put a positive and negative terminal on top of the battery to connect to as opposed to popping a delicate plastic lid on and off? For your information, I used a 10 amp power supply and set the voltage at 15.5 V and the amperage at about six and left the terminals on for about two minutes. The battery became a little warm but fired right up and I was able to charge it. We all owe you a debt of gratitude for your pioneering work! Autel has treated its customers horriblyby not fixing this and providing new batteries. It is as if a carmaker sold the car that had to be discarded after three years because there was not a replacement battery!

Have a couple questions because I'm having the same issue with these batteries. First question is could I actually just plug a adapter in to the charging port without hooking up the balance port to charge it up enough for the charger to read it? Do you think that would work? Secondly would it be possible for you to send a pic of the actual terminals you connected to so I don't mess anything up? Also would any lipo charger work for this? I'm looking at a 1to 4s charger but I don't know if that's all It has to be as far as amps or volts? I have five batteries and all of them did this leaving me with no drone to fly. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

The charging port has both power leads and the balance leads as part of the charger. The two main terminals have to turn and if the battery wont turn on it may not allow the power to go back, plus your pushing the power back through the board. Not sure if the mother board would like that. I tried my lipo charger and it did not do enough for me to get the battery charge high enough. I dont have enough experience with my lipo charger so it might work.

Yes…. i don’t think you can force a charge into the pack from the terminals ? [I tried and I couldn’t get it to work!!] Unless you can differentiate and connect to the the balancing pin out… which I’m thinking is to risky and difficult? …. I may eventually add external terminals ??? Or even drill holes in the front cover so I can stick my power supply leads into the holes to zap the battery [ies] Because it literally only took seconds on each battery to elevate the voltage on the pack high enough to finally get the charger to “take” The next step is to find raw battery packs [that have the equivalent voltage, cell number, and amp-hour ratings and use the circuit board in the failed pack] to create a replacement… even though they would probably not fit in the old case and would be ugly and barbaric?… As lone as I’m back up in the air and filming again… I could care less!

I put in the case and went to take it out during our Snovid 21 here in Texas and I had 2 batteries with no lights and the other 2 the light would stay on and not turn off. Finally they did I'm guessing after the battery drained enough. I don't have a fast charger or "spare" battery so are there other options to charge?
