Great video as always! Hey Danner, you should have used the Autel tool a long time ago. Overall it does MUCH more than any Snap-on tool out there, if you get to know how to use it. It can code and match junkyard PCMs, program keys, program BCM's and radios, pull PIN codes, and much more!. That's why it asks you for the RPO code of the radio. I use it to adjust the mileage on junkyard Instrument Clusters using the EEPROM reader of the IM608 tool kit. The IM608 comes with a buiilt-in J2534 programmer. The Snap-on does no such thing. You need a separate J-box to program. BTW the factory GM tool also asks you for the RPO code of the engine. But if a mechanic is not knowledgeable enough to know where the RPO codes are, then he should have no business fixing your car with a scanner. The only thing that I like of the Snap-on is that it has built-in connector pin-outs. The Autel is much less expensive than the Snap-on, and the Snap-on tools updates are much more expensive than the Autel updates. I've made a lot of money from mechanics who have a Snap-on and are unable to code such simple things as a PCM or a key switch, or a radio. The Autel is excellent at coding. Use the Autel for a year and you'll put aside your Snap-on eventually. It'll grow on you.

I have been testing this new Autel and have to say I like it. It is HUGE! The only thing I don't like is the scope in the VCI. That may be the reason it goes back. It asks you all those questions to identify the systems because in modern cars you should be doing a full system scan. You quickly clicked the checkbox that disables it going into that screen by default. Great video as usual and Caleb is an editing animal!🦁

Dude bless your heart - new tools and its the car i drive. The pcv system in there has also a component in the intake manifold and a hose that goes back to turbo. (3 x critical parts) the valve cover blows because of the missing pink check valve in the intake manifold. Just lettin' ya know because i follow your motto don't be a parts changer!!! i only change what is necessary to avoid come backs (me in that case hahaha)

Snapon is so much more user friendly in everyday applications. But there are some tests that the Autel and launch have that snappy doesn’t have. Having said that. Sometimes launch and Autel will list tests that simply doesn’t work. Where as with Snapon if it list a test it works.

Now I'll be waiting some more, since my iMac is crapping out - glitchy, slow, hanging - reminding me of all the PC's I've had over the years! Always something around here ... but thanks for sharing that, Paul! 👍🍻 I had a '16 Cruze in here 3 years ago with that chirping sound! Replaced whole valve cover and it went away. That has to be one of the worst cars GM has ever produced. Thing had 50k on it - PCV junk, parking brake junk, wiper problems, window problems, and probably more the second it left here. The owners wisely dumped it a couple years ago. What an industry! 😵

barometer is used to check atmospheric pressure during operation for altitude and also validates the output of the intercooler in relation to MAF readings and MAP. (both of these are multi-sensors) Anyways, pcm checks tables and verifies if what's being reported checks out. The barometer also is used to select operating conditions such as precipitation / expectation of humidity and so on. The performance of this car is all over the place and is worthy of many deep case studies. (Especially fuel trims that lead you on wild goose chases especially at idle)

That is one hell of a great tool! I didn't realize how big that screen is...holy crap! That's definitely a cool setup and I REALLY love all the stuff provided with it Paul 👌 Really looking forward to seeing you utilze this in future videos! That's wicked fast compared to the older models too! You're going to love that thing for it's Bidirectional control capabilities that Snap-On lacks alot of times. Don't get me wrong Snap-On kills it when it comes to graphing, but it lacks in the Bidirectional department at times. I think the Autel asks you more on system options because it can do alot more in areas other tools cannot, however it is annoying when getting it up and running 😄 Purge Valve Bidirectional control capabilities don't stand a chance now man 😄😄😄 Your son is killing it on the editing man!

It can communicate via WiFi, Bluetooth or wired. You can use auto vin if mode 9 is supported. You can also take a picture with the internal camera and the vin will be deciphered via optical character recognition. This tool also has an improved guided diagnostics. Check the o-ring on the oil cap also. I've seen many of these have bad oil cap o-rings and then your ft get better but not completely fixed. Also the Evap Purge Valve will not completely shut and also cause a vacuum leak. I've literally had some of those come in with all three faulty.

That same chirp can come from the crankshaft seal. Been there a few times. Normally when the pcv fails the crank seal goes right after.

Had this issue with my 07 Mercedes E320 Bluetec: bad plastic diaphragm inside the EGR valve body that cause all sorts of ghost codes until I replaced the part, which I ordered direct from Germany and saved about $80. Got weird MAF codes until I cleared everything after part replacement. Note this was a diesel so your frustration may vary.

I hope he replaced the intake on that Cobalt too, it has a little tiny part that becomes dislodged allowing for excessive vacuum to that pcv valve diaphragm and consequently breaking it

the ECM compares baro and map sensor when you turn on the key and constantly calculates the baro during engine operation. If the difference between measured baro and calculated baro is too large, it will set a DTC..... I can not tell you how it exactly does the calculation but it seems to involve the MAP and MAF sensor...now that their values are screwed up due to the vacuum leak, it also screws up the baro calculation. This ECU does a complete engine simulation in the background to monitor itself and the engine Fascinating how close it is: it calculates oil temperature which is used for the oil life monitor.. I measured the oil temperature for a few days and the gap between measured and calculated oil temp is less than 5 degrees, avg 2-3...awesome

Hey Paul!. Thanks for this review I've been considering buying a MS919 wich is a step below the ultra. Can you get the information about the yearly subscription?. I can't find it anywhere and i would love to know before buying. Btw i got the printed version of your book and I'm subscribed to the premium channel. This is my first week studying to raise that diagnostic game!. Thank you for everything you do to this community.

I own a european Vauxhall with the same exact engine... it´s mechancaly durable but PCV system is one thing that drives you crazy.... There is a rubber check valve inside the intake manifold that is also part of the PCV system and which you should check as well ...it regulates crank case pressure and when it is broken, boost pressure will enter the crank case which will rupture the diaphragm in the valve cover again in 2 days... the diaphragm is like a burst disk that issuppused to rupturebefore you blow out all the seals

Check the intake to make sure the little red check valve is still there. It’s probably gone and it’s usually the reason the diaphragm in the valve cover got damaged. If that check valve is missing and you replace the valves cover it will bust the diaphragm again.

I imagine the scope has separate built in multi meter for a few reasons. First you can preform Diode tests & measure continuity - which you can not measure with oscilloscope. Also a multi meter will give you a RMS value, rather that the oscilloscope peak to peak value. Not so much an issue with a battery DC source, as the voltage line is flat (so peak to peak & RMS = the same). But when viewing rectified AC (be it half wave or full wave, with or with out smoothing capacitors/inductor), there will always be some level of wave, which means you need to use RMS to to calculate the value (some oscilloscopes have this feature under their measuring options). This can be seen if you were to measure an outlet socket. I believe in the states your supply is 120VAC 60HZ. If you measured with a oscilloscope and put cursors to show the delta value between the most negative and positive points of the sinusoidal wave, the voltage would show something like 200VAC peak to peak. Where as if you use a multi meter which is RMS, it will show you the correct value of 120VAC. RMS is used as the voltage is varying and not a fixed value like from a battery, which is fixed as it is a chemical reaction. That kit looks awesome - I'm a sucker for a good box! Take care Paul

I was thinking other things like reducing under hood diagnostic tool clutter and the multi function, multi window availability on the face of that giant tablet. It's something Snap On had the right idea with on their Verus and newer scan tools. Think about being able to watch for a voltage drop the same time you're commanding a solenoid on with a scan tool on one screen. It's all about getting it done faster while you're under the hood. I hope Autel gets this right.

Check the intake for a missing non return valve, typically that's what causes the diaphragm to rupture and will cause repeat pcv failures if not corrected.
