Hit the nail on the head with this review! I've had mine for about a month now and have the same gripes as you, I'm really hoping they smooth out the gimbal start/stop and give us some more adjustments for the OA in a future firmware update. Other than that it's a great bird and I've been super happy with it. Loved the shots of Raleigh too!!

Thanks Ed for the great and honest review. I have the same one as you but have not flown it yet. Way too much work to complete first on the Homefront to have some play time. Did you know they have a smart controller coming out for it shortly. On the pricey side but looks awesome. It has a 7.9" screen with 2000 nit of brightness and an advertised reception of 9 miles. Going to have to save my pennies to get one and also the Freewell ND filters you have. Then, try to become proficient and learn all of the ins and outs to what it can do along with the Explorer app. In my case, being an old timer with brain fog, I'll probably need a teaching course for it.....rotflmao!!! Excellent video, I learned several new things... I have this drone too and love it. BTW, you probably know by now, but as you alluded to in the video, you CAN dial in the sensitivity and responsiveness very accurately in the settings easily and get the movement to respond how you want it to, including camera tilt. Thanks for the info! Yes that definitely helps with the controllability, and I see you can also adjust the speed of the gimbal tilt. Unfortunately that still doesn't fix the issue of the gimbal snapping into motion more abruptly than I would like to see. The slowest gimbal tilt speed is still too fast when compared to a Mavic 2 Pro or Phantom.

If you want super-smooth movement then you need to use the Precision Flight Mode.

Hi Ed try changing the exp settings to .20 for everything and reduce the yaw to 50% in sensitivity settings

Hi Ed, you can smooth out the gimbal movement. Go to settings and Gimbal sensitivity. Change the sensitivity to 12 for a buttery smooth gimbal. Thank you for the review of the Autel EVO ll Pro.

So far that still hasn't smoothed out the start of the gimbal tilt. It may smooth it out when it's already in movement though.

Nice review. I wish I had seen this before pulling the trigger on the fly more combo for the DJI A2S. I thought it was the best bang for buck vs the M2 Pro. But 6K, variable aperture, 40 min flight time, no geofencing, all for about the cost of the M2 Pro fly more combo, I could have scraped up the additional $600 and got the Autel. Currently, I have way too many DJI drones. I have a Mavic Pro with FPV Goggles and just about every accessory that came out for it; both Minis, and now all three Airs. Been watching used drones on eBay. They don't seem to be in demand...

Have you been able to work out the stick sensitivity to get smoother movement?

Saw another reviewer say geofencing was coming for Evo 2 in a future update... that would be huge bummer if that happened. Looking at the Mavic 3 price I am pivoting towards Autel, especially evo lite+

Ed, great vid! Got a burning question I have gotten close to but no beans - regarding EVO2 Flight logs (.bin, .log). Where and how to download them, any insight here? Thank you.

I've got that drone. I almost never shoot in 6K because the overhead in processing the video on my computer is really bad. Plus, my flat screen HD 4K Samsung TV can't play 6K video. It looks like the signal they used to put out on TV stations when they went off the air at night. Haha. But the drone is wonderful at 4K. It really handles the wind very well. With that zoom built in, it's now my go-to drone instead of my Mavic 2 Pro. I did have to adjust the sensitivity for the gimbals on the camera and for the sticks. I've never gotten 40 minutes flight time. 32 minutes is about the max I've ever gotten in real life.

You use 6K to give you more overhead when editing, to be honest if you bought a 6K drone you should have updated your PC first to get the benefit... Cheers

@@thedronehomezone9432 I had just spent a couple thousand to update my PC, high performance video card, more ram, SSD drives, 8 core processor. Not ready to start over again. Besides, if the 4k flat screen TVs can't play it & KZread dumbs it down to below 4k anyway, the only reason right now is, like you said, to have more editing room in post process.

I love the idea of no geofencing but I’m also accustomed to the rock solid connection between the DJI Mavic Pro and it’s controller even when a good distance apart. Does the Autel have as good connection?

I’m loving my Autel evo 2 6K! But on another note I just got my Air 2S today and flew it and it flies AMAZING!!!! DJI has their app dialed so much more than Autel unfortunately. It was so simple to get killer 3 and 4 axis movements with the Fly app and Air 2S and seems much tougher with the evo 2 pro and Explorer app. That Autel remote is clumsy don’t like it....going to buy their smart controller and hoping that helps.

@@EdRickerVlogs I spoke to Autel and they said it should resolve some of the connectivity issues between the current controller and your phone/device which I have experienced a bunch in my few weeks of owning this drone already. So hoping that at least solves that piece of the equation.

I always thought this drone was great? I just think it's too expensive. Especially the accessories. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍

I transferred from Mavic to Evo 2 Pro.

Nice video again Ed! I have the Autel evo 6K but prefer using my DJI Air2s. The air2s flies more smooth and has 5.4K video. The only downside is that it doesnt have an adjustable aperture. I enhanced the 5.4k footage of the air2s with topaz video enhance ai to 8k. That footage clearly beats the Autel 8k's 😀

TriplTek 8" screen works on that?

Good review. I'm looking to replace my aging Phantom 4 Pro+ and have been considering this drone though with the Air 2S out, that looks tempting (Mavic 3 maybe?). The issues that you have identified seem like a problems that would make me not consider the Autel though. They sound like they could be sorted with a software update but so far it hasn't. Hasn't this drone been out for a few months?

Go with the DJI. I’ve dealt with both Autel and DJI for years, and Autel has had the same issues since their first drone and have never fixed them. DJI is miles ahead in terms of quality.

Also calling this thing 6k is really deceptive. It’s only 5.4K which is the same as the air 2S.

I have the EVO 1. Bought the Skydio 2 for the obstacle avoidance. Disappointed with the Skydio 2 for multiple reasons. Now ... thinking of going to the EVO 2 (6k). This was a helpful review. Thanx. Lemme know if you want a Skydio 2 (complete package) - I can offer a very good deal.

When I got my EVO II Pro the it had that yaw jumpiness using the factory settings for EXPO and sensitivity. I adjusted them the way I like and now it flies like butter through cream. There are also different flight modes in the Evo Explorer app that slow down the quad (adjustable) for cinematic shots. That said I would like to take the controller and smash it with a size 11 boot. Stick tension is too high, the controller is poorly balanced so when you add your iPad or phone on the controller it wants to flip over. Then you have the buttons on the back. What were they thinking? You can also fly the EVO II without a ipad, phone or any additional screen. There is a small screen on the controller that you can switch to but without the app you lose a lot of functions and features.

You mentioned sensitivity settings for movement. Wouldn't there also be a sensitivity setting for the obstacle avoidance so it doesn't slow down so much? (I don't own an Autel drone yet - Ordered an EVO 2 Pro Enterprise V3 that will show up in a week).

There doesn't seem to be an obstacle avoidance sensitivity setting. You either turn it on or turn it off.

This aircraft has been incrementally improved with multiple firmware updates. It has a few limits, but is now the best overall drone I have flown in its class.

HI Ed just getting into drones now but I want it purely for stills photography. Would you recommend the autel evo 2 over the mavic 2 pro or do you think it doesn't matter. Ive narrowed down to these two because they both have one inch sensor and variable aperture lens. It's one easier than the other to set up, maintain etc?

The EVO 2 Pro really wins all around on almost everything. The one inch sensor and the variable aperture are really the only two features that are identical, as well as surround obstacle avoidance. The EVO 2 Pro wins on pretty much every other big spec (resolution, frame rate, battery run time, low light performance, field of view, etc). I do think the Mavic 2 Pro has better controllability though. It feels really good to fly in tripod mode for very precise movements.

Hi Ed, Just wondering if Autel still leave their drones completely unlocked? I am fully licenced and legal, yet DJI are now very militant with geofencing and it is causing me some issues with my work and I'm thinking of switching to Autel if it will solve that problem. But this video was made a few years ago and I'm just wondering if this is still the case with Autel - I can't find much info on it.

Does it connect to a head set

Does have a log color mode?

No Geo fencing is what makes this a no brainer against DJI.

Does 4k 60FPS allow HDR mode as well? I have the AIR 2 and that allows either HDR or 60fps in 4k.

I don't think so.

I just started flying mine, but I’ve been flying for a while. I personally think that there are big dead spots in the centers of all the control points for this drone. The sticks have huge dead centers, and the gimbal wheel is the same way. As far as return to home. I give mine a launch pad to aim for and it will land on it 9 out of 10 times. If they used high quality gimbals in the radio, and a better wheel.. They would have as close to a perfect drone as I have ever seen!!

It's been over four months now, have you managed to set up smooth camera movements? Did you manage to get used to it and achieve smooth movements?

Yeah using Precision control mode helps, and also just getting used to the feel. I bounce back and forth between my EVO II Pro and my DJI Air 2S, and I still like the feel of the AIR 2S a bit more. I think if I need to cover huge plots of land or be up for a long time, I'll choose the EVO II Pro still. A month or two ago I was hired to shoot a crane raising the final beam on a very tall building in Raleigh as part of a completion ceremony, and I chose the EVO II Pro for the battery life and the amazing digital zoom capabilities.

Good job on the presentation, it’s a very appealing package, however , being old school , I much prefer smoothness and ease of control over the number of K’s … 6k is simply overkill in my book especially when then majority of folks out there have 4K screens if that ! DJI fan for Life 😄

It looks like they're wanting $2,500 now for this drone and to me the specs don't seem much better than the air 2s not enough to want to upgrade.

Heads up. There's an Amazon Prime listing for the Pro II 6K with a second battery, and 2 memory cards for $1528; THEN there's an additional $300 discount. With Prime 5% rewards, based on my state tax, that made this just over $1200. No case, but most of us have something that is already more than capable.

Probably your screen. Try playing back at a lower resolution. Watching a higher res video on a lower res screen will do that.

Very impressive but I don't understand your denominations. In lunar denominations come on the video from your cameras appears to be at Alpha Delta, which is virtually unusable at any distance If you go to the Delta six mode you can get better resolution and a higher quality depth differential differentials, but will be a little lacking in magna two depth. If you want deeper multi-spectrumetric visibily display, are you going do you have to go with 001 - X37 spectrometer reverberant display. What you're doing is completely childish, you are 1000 years behind the time.
