Nice to hear something gritty and hard edged, Im sick to the back teeth with most modern electronic music which is far too clean, soft as shite and predictable given the equipment they have at their disposal, not heard anything very interesting since the 90s/early 2k, have you heard anything worth discovering in recent times?

I taped this off the radio in the early 90s. I had no idea what most of the music on my mix tapes was called and have only been able to find bits of it later. So many favourites I have no way of finding...

@@maccagrabme I agree. Also, this stuff is dark as heck for the average listener (as in, hard to stumble upon). I don't even remember how I stumbled upon Apex Twin, I think I found "Windowlicker" somewhere. Ten years later, thanks to the youtube algorithm and user comments in Apex Twin videos, I've discovered Autechre.

alchemy seems highly appropriate. turing base metal sounds into magical music. i think we are incredibly lucky that they exist. life would be so much emptier without their music. they seem to live out a template for how we humans could possibly be if we were likewise able to tap into our creativity

Yo holy shit the sound that is at 14:20 is the sound of the alien mini boss inside the carnival side show in streets of rage 2. I always remember it's weird ass sound when you would hit it. Im so glad it's been sampled.

It's good to know that my childhood wasn't in vain. A lot of really cool stuff came out for many industries back in the day :)
love it. some of it reminds me of the old days making tracks with just a Roland MC-202 and TR-606. I miss those machines
downloaded these not too long ago and made my own bootleg tape w fake track titles and i listen to it on my walkman at work a lot :o)

15:00 - 22:00 ish might be my favorite part. The weird "wabobobahhh" voice, the distorted pacman-ish sound, the killer hip-hoppy beat, the beautiful synth @ 19:00. Something about it is pure sonic bliss. Not to mention the half-life crowbar-ish sound that kicks in @21:50... actually 00:00:00 - 2:00:00 is my favorite part, nvm.

Damn, somehow this one passed me by when it came out. Not knocking on most of the newer stuff, but I think we all could have used more material that sounds like their first two records. Sounds much closer to B12 and Black Dog and their other early Warp Records contemporaries. And the hip hop angle is much clearer. Really great stuff.

This is one of my favourite collections of tracks by anyone. Until the last 10 minutes, you get a perfect showcase of so much that Autechre can do, and then those last 3 tracks tie the whole thing together as a true album in its own right. What an ending and a new beginning of a trip to follow!

Awesome sounds by electronic music living legends. This sound had a time when it was made but was made to be timeless.
An utterly sublime collection. Autechre have incredible sound design, and you can hear how it developed and morphed and expanded during the course of this. Autechre are definitely one of the absolute greatest.

Even crazier is to think that these aren't the actual tracks, rather mixes containing mostly unreleased tracks. Makes you wonder how many unreleased mixes they have too. Sean and Rob must *really* like their craft.

@@JasonBoon02 agree on that. There was an interview in the 90s, might have been sound on sound, where they were talking about their studio techniques and ideas.... in super deep. Just an amazing approach really and a bs-free zone. FSOL impressed me also on that level.
Squarepusher’s 1997 Central Line was the first Warp track I ever heard and it was like stepping through a portal into a new dimension. Never looked back.

I come back to this every once in a while and I'm just left in a state of awe every time. Being a musician and acknowledging the fact this was made with an old Enoniq sampler, a couple old Roland synths and drum machines and a mixer is very, very humbling lol

I can't believe how modern and crisp this sounds given the time frame during which this was recorded. The rhythm section is sooo 2010's, almost trap-like and at times it sounds almost proto-d&b.
