    Hydrofoil and real time tracking of speed had made this sport so exciting. It was so boring sport in 20 years ago. Then it became more realistically exciting than F1. Since F1 is now so fast that we cannot catch difference for novice watchers. I wish that you can also show speed of wind in real time, so that many watchers can have grasp of wind-surfing.

    No… port is left and starboard is right, so if you look again you’ll see NZ on port and Aussie land on starboard side to NZ. As to who has right of way I’m not sure, but I don’t think they follow maritime rules like you’re suggesting.

    @@jncg2311 Seems to be the case, and it makes sense, though I noticed that with these boats it is hard to see the difference between those going into the wind and with the wind -- they are going so much faster than the wind the sails stay near midships all the time. I guess I have to watch more of this wonderful sport.

  • @jncg2311

    @jncg2311

    9 ай бұрын

    @@TheEvertw Yes, they sail so fast that the apparent wind, the air direction they experience vs that a static object sees, moves right forward. It effectively means thay are sailing close hauled when a displacement or even planing hull wouldn't be. A land yacht does similar. They can sail faster than the wind powering them which seems impossible but it's not at all when you realise the sail area and extremely low friction of the foils puts their power to drag ratio very high.

    For some1 that has no clue what the rules are here can some1 explain? I get that in most sports your not allowed to just cut some1 off but the green boat that got the penalty looked like they straigtend out there path before the blue boat needed to avoid contact so why the penalty? Aggressive move for sure but it looked like they tried to secure the inside line for the corner to me. Is there a minimum distance or something?

    Green boat had the right of way because they were on the 'starboard' tack. Which means that the wind was coming over the starboard (right) side of their boat. Forcing a boat that has the right of way to change course is a penalty
