3830 was fully restored by The Power House Museum some years ago and was used for many years on tours. It now has a major boiler issue and resides at the NSW Rail Transport Museum at Thirlmere. Hopefully one day we will see it in action again as a back up to 3801. It was a magnificent engine.

I got to ride on this beast a number of times in the late 90’s/early 2000’s… by far my favourite engine, even over 3801. I wish they’d restore it 😢

I remember 3830 at Enfield and at that time it was a very good loco worked many trains with it looks a complete wreck i often wondered what happened to it.

What on earth caused that hole we see at 1:07? it doesn't look like a properly made hole for a firebox stay, but it does look like it was done with a flame. Who made the diesel engine in locomotive 48103? It sounds very much like an English Electric unit.

My understanding is the hole was done (deliberately) with a oxy torch prior to the engine's withdrawal in the 70s. And the engine 48103 is an Alco 6-251B.

I worked many trains with 3830 it was a very good locomotive in this video it looks a wreck I wonder if it will ever run again?

Depends on what the Powerhouse wants to do with it (currently it needs an extensive overhaul not dissimilar to what with happened 3801, which is a massive ask..)
