Great video! SUPER useful. I mean... bloody useful mate! 👍 lol 😂 Ta!
I remember there was an uproar in the Australian community in the USA in 1984. I was there on a business trip. The expression stems from a 1984 television advertisement created by the Australian Tourism Commission for audiences in the United States. The ad starred Paul Hogan he said: ‘I’ll slip an extra shrimp on the barbie for you’: meaning Australians eat prawns but for you it's shrimp.

The word mate can have several meanings depending on how it’s pronounced. When pronounced short and sharp it does mean friend. When the ‘a’ is drawn out it means that your starting to get on my nerves. When there’s a very strong emphasis on the ‘t’ it’s a threat that things are about to get violent.

I think that term is wide spread. In Canada we also use "cold one" as in "lets grab a cold one" Everyone would know clearly what you are referring to here. Interesting video, thank you it will help me understand 60 minutes australia lol one word that threw me right off was "cuddle", cuddle here is a more intimate version of "hugging " and i was perturbed initially why it was ok to "cuddle" with children ...its interesting the terms different countries adopt even when we are speaking the same Language
Woops, I think your spell checker got in the way of your definition of a person who bludges on the dole - should be "dole bludger" not "doll bludger". I also love the expression (which may be used in other Englishes) which describes a lazy person, ie a bludger, as "so lazy he wouldn't work in an iron lung", and even better than this, I remember a throw away line from some TV show from the 70s which was "he's so lazy he wouldn't even bludge in an iron lung" - no idea of the show, and I've never heard it since, but I thought it was a bloody hilarious recursive twist on the idea of a bludger.
