Ref got it wrong on the third Australian goal. The Brazilian defender was defending against an offside player leading to the own goal. That should count as interfering with play.

The own goal defender has no duel for the ball, she only tries to play and clear the ball without an physical duel with the attacker. When the other defender makes the own goal, the attacker will become active offside, because she is in a duel with the defender.

@@David-qy7sb FIFA rule No.11 and you have similar situations before. Even the big FIFA Ref boss Colina says the same. At the deflection of the ball the defender have no physical duel. It's the same when a other attacker shoots to the goal and defender deflect the ball to an own goal. When you have in this situation a other attacker near to the goal in offside she is also passive. Only in a physical duel with the own goal defender or when she obstruct the view of the goalie she will become active.

Slowed down to 25% and did not see the grab. Doesn't mean it didn't happen. It was 100% a dive but if she did grab her shirt going down, it is difficult to not call even though it truly shouldn't have impeded her progress.

It was legal, the offside was negated when the defender headed the ball, its rule 11.

Why wasn't the third offside? Why wasn't the third offside? Why wasn't the third offside? If that's the way the rule is written, then change the rule. The only reason the Brasil defender makes a play on the ball is because of the danger of the offside attacker who is clearly in line with the pass and never stops moving. Makes no sense to me.

The third goal is clearly offside, rules are when Aussie is in the offside position the referee should callout offside regardless of whether the Brazilian touches the ball or not.

Yes the football crowds have been bigger than those for the cricket but the cricket grounds being used in the WC are generally fairly small capacity. Also in Australia the television ratings for the Matildas first game were larger than those for the Australian cricket team which played on the same night. This would have been unheard of even 5 years ago. Go Matildas :)
