Visited this location as a child. Our vessel sunk 5km from shore. She now lays at the bottom of the waves. 8 of us on board, I was about 10-11 years old. I’m 61 now. my uncle was lost at sea that day and perished with the vessel.

Been thru a few times and still find my heart coming up into my mouth. In a 40 ft motor boat up the waves and shipping green over the cabin top. And those whirlpools before you hit the waves. Scary.

Been through the Rip more times than i care to remember. Several times at the Rip's extreme. 98% of the time on a yacht. You did well. Common sense prevails keeping everyone safe even at it's worst.

i've been through this at various tides and it's dangerous in places where whirlpools can suck at underpowered craft. tide also creates a change in level of water and can be nasty to either face and ride up or ride over top of to bay level. you can't really hang around in Bass Strait waiting for tides or favourable conditions but you can at least time it somewhere near top or bottom of tide to slack water before the change..

That's A wild ride. I hope the conditions are better when I bring my Hans Christian 38 through there

Yes it seems to coincide. Was having dinner at the time in the restaurant and pointed out to my wife we were passing thru outbound and the couple at the next table left their steaks and only the bloke returned a while later but he didnt finish his meal either. Was a rough crossing that time, lifting and banging all thru the night , the boat that is.

Don’t go on a windy \ swelly day. Always check the weather before you go through the heads, make sure you know where to enter and exit the heads from also, do your research before you get yourself killed. 8 years ago tho I figured I’d comment lol.

You'd risk running out of fuel if your not stocked up and not many boats would be able to see you out there since your JetSki would be small
