Austin Reaves on LeBron, Lakers, and Money | “Thank God 'Bron had a minicamp!” | S2 E21
Спорт
In an interview conducted on location in Los Angeles, POINT FORWARD welcomes Los Angeles Laker AUSTIN REAVES to the show. With ANDRE IGUODALA unavailable due to Golden State Warrior commitments, fellow host EVAN TURNER holds us down and goes deep with the red-hot Reaves about his upbringing in tiny Newark, Arkansas. While most of his classmates were partying and hanging out, Reaves was following his family’s example in the gym. And once he got discovered by the broader basketball world, folks like Lon Kruger, Rajon Rondo and his current teammate, LeBron James, have helped push him to being one of the top second-year players in the NBA.
The Point Forward podcast, hosted by former NBA teammates and current best friends Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner, uses basketball as a pretext to honestly and openly talk about business, culture, race, tech, and, yes, sports. Specifically, over the course of weekly hour-long episodes that drop on #pointforwardfriday, Iguodala and Turner, discuss and debate current national and global events in a way that is meant to resonate with everyone from the Silicon Valley elite to teenagers on the south side of Chicago.

As a Laker fan, you gotta love this kid. When he announces where he gonna play for the next couple years on this Podcast, he better be staying in the Purple and Gold! To the Lakers organization, pay this man his money! He earned it through hard work and dedication!

Watching this whole interview, you realize just how grounded and mature Reaves is compared to a lot of professional athletes. That's how you know that even though he has the looks of a teenager, he's really an older, second year player who did more than just develop his game in college. He developed as an all-around human being. Hope the money doesn't change him, 'cause Mr. Newark, Arkansas is about to be filthy rich. 🏀💰📜

@@pointforward I really respect the homework you all did on this podcast and for bringing spotlight on one of NBA fan favorites.
I’m black and I cringe at Austin continuously being so blatantly called the “white boy” hooping - That’s ignorant. He’s obviously white, but you don’t have to keep pointing it out; it doesn’t define him. I don’t like prejudice talk from anyone, especially coming from my people.

I'm white and I love Morgan Freeman's take - "do you want to end racism? STOP TALKING ABOUT IT." 99% of people are good human beings that don't see race but rather character. It's that 1% (that is present in ALL races) that the media blasts 24/7 to trick us into thinking that's the state of America. IT ISN'T.

Evan is a great interviewer. It's clear he researched before interviewing and even more impressive he doesn't have notes and is able to recall his research in the interview on a dime. But most importantly he doesn't keep the questions to his prepared questions, but also listens to Austin's responses and takes an interesting thing Austin says to throw out questions related to Austin's responses. Great stuff, Evan. You're excellent! You have a great talent for this.
I love how most the NBA players are so chill off the court even when they're vicious enemies when the game's on.
Gotta support my fellow Arkansas brother...he's a good success story.
This kid is the reason I keep watching Lakers games. Hooper with a capital H. And I can so see Rondo taking this one under his wing.

crazy i played him and his brother in high school, during that time his brother spencer was cooooold, and then going into his jr and senior year Austin went from 6 ftish to 6’ 5”

Most the L.A. Lakers can offer off the jump is 4 years/ $50 million under the Gilbert Arenas provision of the CBA. Austin Reaves will be a restricted free agent, though, so if another NBA team offers more, the Lakers can match. "More" would be a 'poison pill,' in the Year 3 and Year 4, but L.A. can afford it, because LeBron and probably A.D. will be gone by then. This all assumes Rob Pelinka reaches a good deal with D'Angelo Russell, who will be the biggest chunk of the Lakers off-season free agency cap. 🏀💰📜

Evan Turner, you're a great interviewer!!
What an amazing story. Small town, barely any notoriety, goes undrafted to his favorite team, alongside the 2nd best player. Then, on the brink of missing the playoffs with Lebron going down and he balls out and helps the Lakers will their way in. He earned his way in, and now he's about to get that bag.
One thing people don't think about is the locker room atmosphere. It can be very intimidating going into a locker room not knowing anyone (my freshman year at college playing) I couldn't imagine walking into the locker room with lebron, AD, Russ, Rondo... shit would be intense
Glad to see former players ask good questions.
Excellent interview and great questions, Mr. Turner. AR your fabulous and very hungry to become the best you can be. I wish you always the best and please stay a Laker.
