We didn't make you watch everything to get ALL of the references. The black spy suit worn by Vanessa was a reference to a spy TV series, "The Avengers." Diana Rigg, the actress who married Bond in "Her Majesty's Secret Service" played in the Avengers and wore the suit. 60s movies and TV shows were prone to have musical / dance scenes, which is why the opener was like that. The musical interludes with the fast camera cuts were used in 60s TV shows like "The Monkees" and "Laugh-In," with the musicians being a reference to the Monkees and the blonde dancer in a bikini being a reference to Goldie Hawn, from "Laugh-In." Robert Wagner (Number Two) played lead in a 60s spy-type TV show "It Takes a Thief."

Hey Ashleigh, -Mike Myers plays both Austin Powers and Dr. Evil; Mike Myers is one of a handful of actors who actually shaved their heads for roles as he believed that when actors use "the skull cap" for shaved heads that it never looked real. He's wearing a wig for Austin. -The theme song that everyone's dancing to at the beginning of the song is called the "Soul Bossa Nova" by Quincy Jones and this is one of his many, many hits including Michael Jackson's Thriller, the theme song to "Sanford and Son" and "We Are the World". He's also the father of Rashida Jones. -The cowboy in the bathroom was Tom Arnold; he was married to Rosanne Barr and starred in "True Lies" with Arnold Schwarzenegger. -Scott Evil is played by Seth Green. He was Oz on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and is the voice of Chris Griffin on "Family Guy" "Is Burt Bacharach a real person?" Yo, you hurt my feelings with that one! -Burt Bacharach co-wrote "What The World Needs Now Is Love" and "The Look of Love" which was the name of the song that was playing when Austin got into the hot tub with Alotta. -Yes, that's Carrie Fisher! -Mama Cass sang with the "Mamas and the Papas" -Reebok had shoes that you could "pump up". -Liberace was a world famous singer and pianist who was known for his quick wit. -The photo shoot during the end credits made sense as Liz Hurley was an actual model. And finally, the entire persona of Dr. Evil including the pinky held to the mouth and his speech patterns are based on Lorne Michaels who was his boss on SNL...I think he still runs the place...

Austin Powers is less a parody & more a homage to Bond. Despite being born in Canada, Myers parents were from Liverpool, England. Myers said that the movie and the character were inspired by the British films, music and comedy of the 1960s and 70s his father had introduced him to as a child. “After my dad died in 1991, I was taking stock of his influence on me as a person and his influence on me with comedy in general. So Austin Powers was a tribute to my father, who [introduced me to] James Bond, Peter Sellers, the Beatles, The Goodies, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore." Myers also said hearing the Burt Bacharach song "The Look of Love" on the radio led to him reminiscing about the 1960s, which helped inspire the movie.

Always reminds me of the song "L.A." by The Fall - "This is not happening, and it freaks me out." Which I guess was a reference to Valley of the Dolls.

And that movie was a not-quite sequel to a trite cliched dramatic movie called simply Valley of the Dolls.

The writing for this film was incredible, and the delivery was unbelievable. It really took over the zeitgeist for the following months. And because it was such an extreme spoof of James Bond, everyone was in on the jokes.

"Its my happening baby and it freaks me out," is a line lifted straight out of "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls." If AP were a train trip from Nashville to Vegas, BtVotD would go all the way to Hong Kong. TRIPPY, FREAKY, NUDIE ACID TRIP.

What I appreciate about this movie and why it has stuck with people all these years is that yeah its a parody and making fun of james bond and spy movies. But it completely stands on its own. You can enjoy this film just fine without ever having seen a james bond or spy movie. Its a fun adventure thats funny, well acted and just a good time.

Yep, I enjoyed the Austin Powers movies when I was growing up and I've enjoyed several other comedy/parody or over-the-top spy movies over the years (Spies Like Us, Spy Kids, the Kingsmen series (and the kinda almost spinoff Argyle was... okay), The Man Who Knew Too Little, Spy Hard, D.E.B.S., Undercover Brother, The Whole Nine Yards) but I have actually never watched anything "serious" in the genre like James Bond (closest I ever got to that was playing Goldeneye multiplayer on N64 at friends' houses) or Mission Impossible.

We have a Sphynx cat. Vixen. She sort of thinks she’s a dog, and petting her feels sort of like petting a warm peach. They’re incredibly affectionate and interactive cats.

The shoes that blew powder in Austin's face were Nike Airs. They were a real thing briefly. There were rubber bladders in them that you pumped up to the fit you want. They weren't great, hence, they weren't around long. There's also a joke about them in Robin Hood: Men In Tights.

Mindy Sterling (the woman always screaming) is actually the sweetest lady I've ever met. I met her at a comic con. She voiced one of my favorite characters from Legend of Korra. I paid for an autograph of my Pop, but she let me have a photo too. I'm always respectful when taking photos and don't touch the other person, but she wrapped her arms around me and gave me a big hug. Meeting her and then watching her play this role again actually makes it ever funnier to me.

There is a small recurring easter egg reference to another spy movie franchise: Austin’s video communicator with Basil Exposition uses the same ring as the communicator for Flint (the American version of James Bond) played by James Coburn in “Our Man Flint” etc
