This is why when you dont have your original parts you always run into crap like that. I am going to weld washers around all the holes, I dont like the set up on the 1mil sheet metal floor pans. I have three original holes on each side and they are oval with the wear and metal fatigue. It is safer to re enforce the holes in my opinion. (even if you have new holes). Thanks for the time to do the videos,it is very useful. I am doing my BJ7 in Brittany France Bernard).

Hi Bernard Thanks for the input - all very interesting. My next video which I hope to finish editing shows considerable work in the slide/pan area. I've tossed the stainless washers and made 2.5mm brass washers for top and underside. My lathe parting off tool was struggling with the stainless. Stay well and thanks for sharing Hugh

Hi Hugh, If you are using a new Kilmartin chassis and floors there are center pop marks on the floor panels for the outboard seat rails. Also center pop Mark's on the passenger side for the fwd muffler mount. Gal reinforcing plates should be fitted under the wooden slats. Your positioning is correct by the way..Rgds Alan McCarthy

Hello Alan Thanks for the info - I have Kilmartin floor plates but no pop marks as mine were put in a long long time ago. Where is the information on your gal re-inforcing plates - not that I have an issue fitting these if needed - see my comment below. And thanks for your contribution as well. Hugh

Hello, I am putting this comment here as I'm not sure you would see it if applied to earlier videos. I am restoring a BN2 which I would like to paint Healey Blue, but I am having trouble sourcing the paint, so I'm wondering if you could tell me where you got yours, and if there is a code or a formula for the color. Thanks.

Hello Bob The way it was told to me by the Healey experts here is that there are 2 shades of the 'Healey Metallic Blue' The original had a tinge of grey in it which made it a dull blue but is probably more precise to the original standard. However, the other is the bright Metallic Blue which is far more popular and sought after by those people needing a re-spray in Blue. This is because on a bright day it really stands out as the sun makes the metallic particles dance (can't think of a better word). Everyone that walks by when the sun is shining comments on what a great colour. So the colour code that was recommended to me is 'Porsche 30T' - yes I know - but that's what works for the Healey experts in Melbourne when they do a re-spray and they are the biggest Austin Healey boys in Australia. The 'Base Paint' Porsche colour was introduced in 1978 - 1981 and it was named 'Hellblau Met 30T' Any of the reputable Auto Paint suppliers should have this colour in their range. I can give you the mix ratio if you want but you shouldn't need it. Hope this helps Hugh

Hi Hugh, I hope i am not preaching to the converted but there is a metal reinforcing plate under the wood strips and the tube nuts have a large flat and spring washer. I made my own metal plates. Slightly heavier material but all i could get. Keep up the good work.

Hello Majorscope Now this is interesting. The flat and spring washer I understand - I used Loctite but do need to put in broad washers - so thanks. The re-inforcing plate is another story altogether. Where on earth did they come from??? Here's what I see - I've been to Moss, AH Spares, The manual and Kilmartins. None show a re-inforcing plate separately in their illustrated breakdown. Further, Kilmartin do provide a support strengthening rib which is welded to the underside of the seat pan - it cannot be separated as it is spot welded. I first noticed it on Karl's video yesterday and it raised a 'look into this' thought. I wonder if they are one and the same and if so the support plates you have should perhaps be directly underneath the seat pan and not on the floor. Let me know your thoughts - I need to get this right - anyone else have a contribution to make on this would be much appreciated. Hugh

Hi Hugh, I will send you a picture of my BT7 seats rebuilt with the plates i made. Also a photo of the rusty plate i took off. Interestingly i rebuilt a BJ7, no existing plate. Recently done a very low miles one owner BJ8 completely unmolested. Seats had no evidence of removal but no plates. Hope this helps. Best Regards. David.

@@ihealey458 Hi Hugh, One more thought. My BT7 plates were firmly stuck to the black bitumen on the floors so i don't think they had ever been removed. Car off the road in Arizona since 1974. Regards, David.

@@ihealey458 Hi Hugh, According to the Austin Healey authentic restoration guide. Worded as follows. Beginning in december 1953 at B1000 drivers seat on movable rails Underneath wooden strips and black painted metal strips that rested on the tar paper. Interesting they state the wooden packers were 5/16th thick on the drivers side but 3/4 thick on the passenger side to make the seats level?. Hope this helps.
