About Austin City Limits
ACL offers viewers unparalleled access to featured acts in an intimate setting that provides a platform for artists to deliver inspired, memorable, full-length performances. The program is taped live before a concert audience from The Moody Theater in downtown Austin. ACL is the longest-running music series in American television history and remains the only TV series to ever be awarded the National Medal of Arts. Since its inception, the groundbreaking music series has become an institution that's helped secure Austin's reputation as the Live Music Capital of the World. The historic KLRU Studio 6A, home to 36 years of ACL concerts, has been designated an official Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Landmark. In 2011, ACL moved to the new venue ACL Live at The Moody Theater in downtown Austin. ACL received a rare institutional Peabody Award for excellence and outstanding achievement in 2012.
ACL is produced by KLRU-TV and funding is provided in part by Dell, the Austin Convention Center Department, Shiner Beers and HomeAway.com. Additional funding is provided by the Friends of Austin City Limits. Learn more about Austin City Limits, programming and history at acltv.com.

When he says "I could not wait forever"- does he mean he couldnt wait to see her, so he came to see her or he came to see her and she was in the bar and he got tired of waiting and left.

I took it to mean that he couldn't stand just thinking about her anymore, he had to bite the bullet and go ask her out. So he "couldn't wait forever" as in he couldn't wait around hoping anymore, he had to act. But then she seems to reject him ("When I put my arms around you, I knew you weren't givin' in"), but he hopes next time he passes through she will have a change of heart ("I hope it will be different if I pass this way again"). But in the last half, I think he switches. He mentions Pasadena, which I think means he would have gone to Pasadena instead of going to see this girl if he had known about it. Implying he wishes he had just gone elsewhere instead, but at the time he was so in love he didn't want to give up the girl ("I'd stopped in Pasadena/If I'd known about this place/But you looked like forever"). In the beginning, he says he can't think about her anymore meaning he must pursue her in reality, but in the end he repeats the line meaning he must finally give up hope of having her. "I could not wait forever" in the beginning means he is acting on his love, but in the end, it means he has finally decided to move on. It sounds like the girl didn't necessarily reject him, but she didn't accept him either, she kept him in limbo and he had to decide if he would wait forever for her to decide.

But I also like to think that it ends ambiguously. You never know, maybe when he passed through again she did have a change of heart.

I took it that he couldn’t wait for her to get over a past love. Move on. Can’t make people move on faster than you want. 🤷🏻‍♀️
