AUSSIE FORD FALCON vs FORD MUSTANG - Battle of the Windsors!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Aussie Falcon takes on Mustang at Winton Motor Raceway Australia! Both powered by Windsor, 351 cubes in the Falcon vs 302 in the Mustang. The Falcon is a heavier car but power to weight wise they're pretty evenly matched. Enjoy the ride!
At Master of Machines, we love cars, in fact, we love anything with wheels or an engine, from American Muscle Cars to Australian Muscle Cars, Race Cars and Classic Cars of all kinds and even Barn Finds. If it's fast, powerful, restored or hidden away in hibernation then we'll cover it, and in most cases, we'll even drive them!

More than true at the old Winton, before the extensions. My old XU-1, with big rear end, only really used three gears. I would very briefly put in top at the end of the old back straight, but only to ease the revs for a moment before braking.

Yes the big 351 needs Room to fully wind up, plus the XW Falcons were not the best handling or braking machine, but on a LONG straight, oh yeah baby it will GO!

The beauty of cars like that is that you really have to drive them to make them quick. Big, heavy, no traction control, no VSC, no ABS... No electronic interference at all. In the 70s they raced them on factory suspension! On twisty tracks, they make you work for it. But it's such a satisfying feeling( and just plain old FUN!) steering all that hefty anger around a track. Just quietly though... If the Falcon and the Mustang were at a more open track like Bathurst, the Stang would have trouble staying in front.

@MDS Wrong again. Enter The A9X 2 door Holden Torana. Winning The Bathurst 1000 had it easily beating any 2 door U.S. production vehicle at the time. As with the XA, XB and XC Coupe in the mid 70's winning Bathurst in a 1, 2 Podium finish. Chrysler(Mopar) GMC, Ford America etc were unable to build any 2 or 4 door race/ production cars to reach the performance of the Aussie made Fords and Holdens. While you are at it you can include most production vehicles out of Europe.

@@gustavbabic5004 , yes it shares a lot of DNA with the Torino, even the same floor pan. Unfortunately we never got the big engines down here, only small blocks. I know that there were some big block concepts put together in the Ford and GM camp but that’s about it. Also, when I think about it, most of our racing revolved around road racing here, although we still had drag racing going on, road racing (circuit racing) got most of the media and TV exposure, that meaning a small block was the best weapon of choice for betting handling and dynamics with less weight over the front axle.

Just my opinion. I have owned 1965 Mustangs since 1976 and built AC Cobras. I'm listening to his car's engine and I think he needs a diffrent differential gear. His power band is hitting way too late after exiting a turn and his rpms are too low while managing the turns. A 351W is just marginally heavier than a 289 or 302. But my 289 in third gear from turn one to exiting turn four at Road Atlanta the rpms are higher by at least 30 to 400 rpms higher. Sao when I am exiting a turn I am at the beginning of my peak torque. You can see the red 67 or 68 start powering out immediately, where the Falcon doesn't till half way down the store straights. He is at 2200 to 3000 rpms which for me are too low going through or exiting the turns.
