Auschwitz, Polish Oświęcim, also called Auschwitz-Birkenau, Nazi Germany’s largest concentration camp and extermination camp. Located near the industrial town of Oświęcim in southern Poland (in a portion of the country that was annexed by Germany at the beginning of World War II), Auschwitz was actually three camps in one: a prison camp, an extermination camp, and a slave-labour camp. As the most lethal of the Nazi extermination camps, Auschwitz has become the emblematic site of the “final solution,” a virtual synonym for the Holocaust. Between 1.1 and 1.5 million people died at Auschwitz; 90 percent of them were Jews. Also among the dead were some 19,000 Roma who were held at the camp until the Nazis gassed them on July 31, 1944-the only other victim group gassed in family units alongside the Jews. The Poles constituted the second largest victim group at Auschwitz, where some 83,000 were killed or died.
Auschwitz I
Auschwitz was probably chosen to play a central role in the “final solution” because it was located at a railway junction with 44 parallel tracks-rail lines that were used to transport Jews from throughout Europe to their death. Heinrich Himmler, chief of the SS, the Nazi paramilitary corps, ordered the establishment of the first camp, the prison camp, on April 27, 1940, and the first transport of Polish political prisoners arrived on June 14. This small camp, Auschwitz I, was reserved throughout its history for political prisoners, mainly Poles and Germans.

In October 1941, work began on Auschwitz II, or Birkenau, located outside the nearby village of Brzezinka. There the SS later developed a huge concentration camp and extermination complex that included some 300 prison barracks; four large so-called Badeanstalten (German: “bathhouses”), in which prisoners were gassed to death; Leichenkeller (“corpse cellars”), in which their bodies were stored; and Einäscherungsöfen (“cremating ovens”). Another camp (Buna-Monowitz), near the village of Dwory, later called Auschwitz III, became in May 1942 a slave-labour camp supplying workers for the nearby chemical and synthetic-rubber works of IG Farben. In addition, Auschwitz became the nexus of a complex of 45 smaller subcamps in the region, most of which housed slave labourers. During most of the period from 1940 to 1945, the commandant of the central Auschwitz camps was SS-Hauptsturmführer (Capt.) and ultimately SS-Obersturmbannführer (Lieut. Col.) Rudolf Franz Höss (Hoess).
The death camp and slave-labour camp were interrelated. Newly arrived prisoners at the death camp were divided in a process known as Selektion. The young and the able-bodied were sent to work. Young children and their mothers and the old and infirm were sent directly to the gas chambers. Thousands of prisoners were also selected by the camp doctor, Josef Mengele, for medical experiments. Auschwitz doctors tested methods of sterilization on the prisoners, using massive doses of radiation, uterine injections, and other barbaric procedures. Experiments involving the killing of twins, upon whom autopsies were performed, were meant to provide information that would supposedly lead to the rapid expansion of the “Aryan race.”

Даа , скорбь и боль в сердце при виде данного видео ! Мой дедушка в 1941 году тоже попал в плен в первые месяцы войны , со многими тысячами людей оказавшимися в этом котле вместе с ним . Всю войну он находился в жесточайших условиях , перегоняемый из концлагеря в концлагерь , чудом остался жив ! В 1945 году его освободили из концлагеря " ГРОСС РОЗЕН " 23 года дедушка писал книгу о всех ужасах происходивших в плену и гибели тысяч людей , хотел издать свои мемуары в 80 годах но из- за цензуры книгу его не издали , прожил дедуля долгую и честную жизнь и умер в 98 лет в своей постели , но всю свою жизнь он мечтал издать свою книгу ! И вот я по прошествию многих лет издал эту книгу в память о дедушке и тысячах убитых и замученных в застенках врага людей под названием " БЕЗ ВЕСТИ ПРОПАВШИЕ" не большим экземпляром , большую часть отправил в крупные библиотеки нашей страны , в музеи и библиотеки своего городка ! Люди помните , что сейчас многие хотят переписать историю , скрыть все ужасы ВОВ и фашистских концлагерей , но пока будут существовать такие книги как эта .... ПРАВДА ВОСТОРЖЕСТВУЕТ и мёртвые восстанут из пепла печей крематориев и заявят о себе во всеуслышание !!!!!

I visited this place a few months ago, Birkenhau first, then Auschwitz, this film almost traces my footprints to the letter. It is the most awful place in the whole world i have ever been to. Full of despair, sadness, and empathy. I have never felt such sadness in my life, and i hope i never will. Mans inhumanity to man knew no boundaries, and now, with whats going on in Gaza and the Ukraine, i fear for humanities existence into the future. 😔

А так называемые союзники вступили в войну против Германии 1944 высадкой в Нормандии,Видать ждали в чию пользу чаша весов кочнётся.

Byłam. Oglądałam to bestialstwo nie mogłam powstrzymac łez zwłaszcza przy oglądaniu dziecięcych ubranek i zabawek. Nie dałam rady musialam wyjść Pani oprowadzajaca zwróciła na mnie uwagę i pomogla mi to pokonać. Straszne miejsce i pomyśleć że ludzie ludziom zgotowali taki los. Nigdy więcej wojny.

For us it is totally clear that Nazi's were German... I don't understand why many respond like this. But I prefer to use nazi instead of Germans because the Germans now didn't fought that war, it was 2 generations ago and can you blame them for what they didn't do? I mean sadly we all have a past, I hate war and the intention of this video is to show how bad it can be. If we now still blame the new generations for something they didn't do and probably feel bad about, there will never be peace.

Dlatego w Polsce, i ogólnie Europie środkowo wschodniej nie używa się określenia "naziści". Nie było takiego państwa. Szczególnie w Polsce podkreśla się ten fakt, bo to prowadzi do rozmywania odpowiedzialności na nieistniejący byt, a przecież wiemy że Naziści nie przylecieli z Marsa.

Hearing the story, seeing the camp, it is hard to believe how people could be so cruel... It is a horror situation and I can't imagine even doing this to an animal.

@@aViewFromDownAndAbove Well the Germans classified the Jews as non-humans (rats) which makes it much easier to ignore what happened there. But how those nearby how they could not have known (which they had to know but ignored) is just as bad.

Да ты чё,, а Гулаги. А Калыма где по 50 градусов мороза. И деревянные бараки с дырами, и работа по 14 часов в сутки.. Кто. С этого лагеря попадал на калыму,, говорили. Что в Немецких лагерях курорт по сравнению с будтугычагом калымским

вот про что забыли. лагерь был освобожден в январе 1945 года. А потом до 1947-го использовался по своему назначению - в качестве концлагеря НКВД. Маленький штрих

Unfortunately, even if these lands are not, other lands are wet with blood, pain and tears. And a nation that has experienced this pain is practicing its own version of oppression today.
This is extremely heartbreaking 💔. To think that Men, women and children were brought here to be exterminated. It's disgusting to think that human beings are so cruel and heinous.

You should visit. It's not nearly as bad as we thought it would be. It was solemn and sad, but I thought we'd feel the presence of all the last souls... never did though. After awhile we actually found it quiet and almost relaxing near the back of the camp near gas chambers 4 and 5. A place to sit quietly and contemplate. I could spend days walking around here. For some reason, I found Dachau to be the most disturbing, followed by Buchenwald.

В Совке было около 162 Концлагеря, а в Третьем Рейхе было их около 40. Кто осбождал Совковые Концлагеря.

Спасибо за экскурс. Печально. Такие кадры нужно показывать всем, от мала и до велика. Для понимания и профилактики. Жаль, что европейцы не хотят делать выводов из пройденных исторических уроков - на Украине снова зародили фашизм..спонсируют... помогают. I spent the Christmas week in Krakow,2018, I visited Auschwitz 1/2 Christmas Eve, I wanted to go in winter to feel the cold, but this was nothing to what the perished went through....I will go again. Unbelievable part of history!

Shaun Bat, do you know the writer and ex-prisoner Primo Levi? He has written some books showing his days in the concentration camps. I would strongly suggest you his wonderful book "If this is a man", where he tells his story, with so many details. It is heartbreaking.

My sincere respect and condolences to the victims and their families, I wish that they find peace, strength and consolation for their souls, this event cannot be repeated and cannot be forgotten and will be part of the collective memory of humanity. I will never understand the circumstances that dragged an entire country to savagery and barbarism, I cannot imagine the guilt for them, the stigma, guilt and shame for Germany to be brutal and with the forgiveness and respect of all, only I can feel compassion, sorrow and sadness for this country, since I do not wish anyone to be in their shoes and I cannot imagine how hard and heartbreaking it would be for any son or grandson to find out about the atrocities that their ancestors have committed, without forgetting how delicate serious about the subject and without minimizing the crimes of the Nazi regime. I wish that one day, all the peoples of the earth can forgive and reconcile each other and heal our wounds. I am still surprised how far the human being can go in his evil and I will never understand how There may be cold-blooded subjects who come to feel pleasure in the face of the suffering of others with such cruelty and sadism. I wish this never happens again.

I was watching this and wanted to respond to myself. But couldn't. Because there were no words to trust the description. Words have never been strangers to me. They always had been lucid, glad to be at my access. And yet familiar words had abandoned me so quietly like ghosts and dead children. And then, I felt something against my face. And I knew it was a sheet of metal, grey and dull on both sides. And this had no feeling. no feeling at all. It was just there, all of a sudden and I knew it was there to protect me from sorrow. And yet this sorrow, a blank against my eyes, my nose, my mouth. Those young trees flowering so strongly had become fresh, new, and enthusiastic toward living, against the dead of the buildings behind. Then I knew with no second thought, that life goes on, despite death. And, the green of the young trees made sense. for they were alive! Unapologetic for growing there. Defiant, they proved there that, yes, life was to begin again. Despite the multitude of lackluster buildings that had tried to say to the whole of the world, that death had entered there, meaning to stay forever. But, no, whispered the trees, it's never over despite a death. Life always comes back, no matter what. Even to this horrid place. Words returned as the film came to an end, but I can't remember what they were. Only that they were rescuing me. So, that I knew I was alive. And yet, attached to me, something heavy, that had never been there, was there now. And then I realized this anvil of weight was announcing that from now on it had become my child. Formless, exhausted, a hunchback, crippled forever in me.
Incredible video, such a terrible time to live in, and waste of lives. It is sad to know that some people are saying that this never happened. They need to visit this place. Thanks for the video.

JohnnyD RC, I have been witnessing this at a local university here in my town in the Southeast part of Brazil. Currently doing a course, I feel very uncomfortable how most of scholars and some tutors I have contact with are very much in favour of the so-called "German side of the history". There is also a well accepted theory, the post-truth, that tries to convince people that the "Jewish" side of the history is just a "mere fragment", a "cut of history" and there are other sides to it. At this university, I can notice, among my classmates and colleagues, that they are unshamelessly antisemitic, for my total shock.
I visited this place in the 80"s when I was in the military and it gave the creeps if you stand there you can feel there pain and there presence God help you all

Ein sehr informativer Film. Die Hinweise und Beschreibungen sind wichtig und helfen beim Verstehen. Die hohe Kameraauflösung vermittelt den Eindruck, daß man direkt am Ort des Verbrechens ist. Ich kann und werde wahrscheinlich nie verstehen, wie das passieren konnte. Was treibt Menschen zu so einer Tat an? Es ist deshalb wichtig, daß man Antisemitismus, Rassismus und Hass immer bekämpft und stets seine Stimme erhebt, wenn man so etwas sieht, hört und wahrnimmt!!! Danke für den Film.

Ich habe schon sehr viele Videos und Dokus über den Holocaust gesehen weil ich mich sehr verbunden fühle mit meinem Heimatland (Deutschland). Aber bei diesem Video musste ich weinen. Ich schäme mich für meine Vorfahren was diese Monster dem Jüdischen Volk und natürlich auch allen Anderen Nationalitäten angetan haben.Das Video ist konzentriert auf das wesentliche und nur leise Musik .Phantastisch kann ich da nur sagen.

Ich muss hier leben. Und die schrecklichen Taten werden auch unseren Generationen zugeschrieben. Und unseren Kindern und Kindeskindern. Leider bleibt diese Meinung durch die Taten der Rechtsradikalen, einiger Parteien weiterhin bestehen. Auch ich schäme mich. Nur kann ich hier nicht weg. Aber das Monster, wie du ihn nennst, war wenigstens KEIN Deutscher, sondern ein Österreicher. Beruhigen tut mich das nicht.

the unshakeable intensity, the unbelievable grief, and sheer horror when looking at those corners of the camp knowing that hundreds or thousands of people suffered while awaiting their deaths is unimaginable especially when you know every bit of that history that transpires during the HOLOCAUST! that heavy feeling while watching this, cant imagined how was it when you are there looking around😑😢😞
I was there about 25 years ago. I felt the ambience of peace, but others I have spoken too felt fear and anxiety.

Потому-что Путин - это Гитлер 21 века, как его кумер Сталин, который с Гитлером делил Европу, также проводили совместные парады на оккупированных территориях. Путин сначала взрывал дома с людьми, чтобы обвинить чеченцев и начать войну. Подлодка Курск, Беслан, Норд-Ост, война и оккупация грузинских территорий в 2008, война в Сирии, в Украине, разжигание конфликтов в африканских странах третьего мира. И много чего ещё... Коммунистические режимы такие же кровавые, как фашистские и нацистские режимы. Сталин, Ленин, Мао, династия Ким, Пол Пот, Чауческу, Энвер Ходжа, от рук которых погибли десятки миллионов человек.
