Thanks, Dave and Saeed! 👍🤟 This is one of my favorite Aurora songs and music videos. Very catchy song with powerful lyrics. And the music video is so cool. Love the metaphor of the vines growing out of her eyes, representing her emotions. At first she's cutting them away, trying to keep them inside, but when she finally throws the scissors away, her emotions become free, and really, so is she. Very creative video.

I love how dramatically different our interpretations can be! To me it appears as though she's struggling to deal with her depression, eventually giving up and becoming consumed by it. When you're fighting against it, it can feel like bothersome weeds, but there comes a point where the work of Maintenace gets to be too much, people tend to give up. When I was struggling really bad with depression, it almost felt like there was a sort of beauty to my suffering, like the roses. It's dangerous to dwell too long on the beauty of your own sorrow though, because if not managed, you can very easily get smothered underneath it. The final scene of her buried under the flower petals, her eyes frozen open, looked very much like her sorrow taking over, turning her body into a beautiful memorial to her struggle, and as it pans out, it looks like blood. Bottling emotions isn't helpful, but neither is completely throwing away the tools you have to manage them, especially with depression. ❤‍🩹

The inspiration was the suicide rate (more men than women). This may be because society tells men that they should be tough and not show emotions (it changing a little I think). And of course it is as you said about showing emotions as it helps and you feel better after it. Video fits well with symbolism to this message

Very nice! My most played song in 2023 according to Spotify, which would surprise many if they knew my musical tastes 😊. Used to fall asleep to this album, and this being the first song is perfect, as it's one of my (many) Aurora favorites. I believe at least two of the concerts I've been to, she opened with this song. Great video and an important message!

The live performance of this song where Aurora performs with The Bergen orchestra in 2020 is one of the most moving performances I’ve ever seen from Aurora and takes this song to another level, Trust me be prepared to let your tears flow like a river it’s that moving a performance form Aurora you can visibly see the tears in her eyes.

This is one of my top 5 songs from her. Not only the lyrics (very strong), but here more the vibe of the music. Especially this keyboard plugging sound plus the vocal layering and the choir in the chorus is for me absolut amazing.

So many beautiful and interesting things are layered in her songs, her studios records. Including the meaning(s). This one could be an kind answer to an old song of The Cure (and its sad chorus, in particular... about not to cry). Well, here are 3 live versions, 1 close to it, the 2 others sounding a bit different: 20191123 - AURORA - HAIK, The River, Full HD with CCs (1/7): kzread.info/dash/bejne/a6eh1ZavgMrMlsY.html AURORA - THE RIVER | LIVE COP26: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qGVl09ejgMy0f8Y.html AURORA - The River (Live in Bergen 2020): kzread.info/dash/bejne/oK15sJWGqbvaoso.html If I don't be careful, I will end to really pray this sort of marvelous musical goddess we can touch...😶 Anyway, thanks for this great and interesting reaction to Aurora, who gives us these musical thoughts we appreciate so much.🙂👍

Good job Saeed. To me this looks like this was shot the same place as the "Giving in to the Love" video done couple days earlier. The message of this is heart felt. To me, the scissors symbolize her holding back her emotions. She's drowning until she releases the restriction, the scissors. Her running near the end represents the freedom of "letting your emotions flow". That's my interpretation.
