Aurora Australis from Tinderbox Marine Reserve Tasmania 28th May 2017
Ғылым және технология
Magnificent evening and spectacular Aurora Australis - I set up for the evening at Tinderbox Marine Reserve in Tasmania. As soon as I had arrived the beams were visible to the naked eye and spanned from East to West at least 170 degrees. At times the beams were directly over head. Music by Harry Manx

thank you man for sharing what i can't see on this world.
I saw the Aurora Australis from the beach one night in Portsea when I was about 12 years old way back in the 70's. I didnt even know it existed until that night, and it was quite beautiful and left a huge impression .. thank you for sharing, great music too

Hey there thank you for your lovely comments! We are in our summer time at the moment with very short nights so I havent had much opportunity to photograph aurora. But in the coming months as the nights get longer and we approach solar maximum I sincerely hope to be able to create more Aurora timelapse clips. Thanks again and peace be with you!
Aurorae and the Magellanic clouds... doesn't get more magical than that.
Beautiful!!! And really nice music!
Glimpse of heaven...thank you Lord Jesus
As lovely as Borealis, but with with those amazing Magellanic clouds! Northern skies are so dull in comparison.

I grew up on a dairy farm with ink black skies, I've been in love with the night sky since about the age of 4 :-)
That is amazing in all ways!! I didn't know you got these in Auatralia too..

Yes, the Earth's magnetic field is a dipole, just like a bar magnet, so there are magnetic field lines coming out of the 'top' and the 'bottom' of the Earth. The aurorae occur wherever those lines intersect with the Earth's atmosphere, and since that happens in both the north and south magnetic poles, you get aurorae at both 'ends' of the globe. In the Northern Hemisphere, they're known as "aurora borealis" (borealis means, "north") and in the south, they're known as "aurora Australis" (Australis means "south".) When there's a solar storm sending out huge floods of charged particles from the Sun, the particles wash over the whole Earth, and any particles that get caught up in the northern magnetic pole spiral down those magnetic field lines and generate an aurora borealis, whereas any particles getting caught up in the southern magnetic pole follow those southern magnetic field lines and generate an aurora australis. It's all so magical!

Music by Harry Manx who is a Canadian artist! He did spend time in India learning an instrument called the Mohan Veena, a type of guitar, which does feature in his songs. I've seen him perform live and adore his music!

It's a timelapse of thousands of still images! If I had have made a video in real time it would take you hours to watch it, so instead, I made a timelapse! Sorry that you felt mislead...
