Cantonese 1. M goi - Thank you (for doing something) usually used in businesses, stores, restaurants. 2. Do ze - Thank you (for gift, etc)
12:38 When you asked these two ladies what language they speak at home, her answer is Teochew, not Cantonese as in subtitle. Teochew is another Chinese dialect but it’s not commonly spoken compared to Cantonese. That’s probably why when speaking of Chinese in Chợ Lớn, people always think of Cantonese 😂😂😂

OMG Chris, your Mandarin pronunciation sounds perfect. I don't speak or understand Vietnamese, but hearing your Mandarin, I'm sure it's very good too. You really have mastered tonal languages which are not easy for people of non tonal languages. I really enjoy all the videos of you and Max. You two are truly amazing and good people. ❤
Your Vietnamese and mandarin pronunciation actually sounds better than the Chinese auntie's. You're so good Chris! Hats off to you.

Absolutely love all of your videos! All the things you’ve tried made my mouth waters. Your northern Vietnamese is amazing, so is your Mandarin. FYI - when you asked the 2 ladies what language they use to speak with each other, they said “tiếng tiều.” Which isn’t Mandarin or Cantonese. It’s actually my family dialect, Teochew. Also in the Canton region of China.

I love watching your videos. It's very heartwarming, and the people are lovely. Thank you.
Man.... positive vibes in all your videos, I love it! Thanks for showing us a little bit of Vietnam, I've only been there on a business trip but would love to go for a holiday sometime.
Xem video này mới thấy ngưỡng mộ tài thông thạo các thứ tiếng của a Chris ^^
Chris, if you read this comment, then i'm gonna let you know that, back in 2020, when i first watched your videos that taught Chinese and your attempt, your experience learning Vietnamese, Urdu, Chinese at that time, i was motivated to learn myself a little bit of Dutch but gave up after just 2 months. Then 1 year later in 2021 i choosed to learn German at the University, until now i'm pretty proficient in German, and learning myself a little bit of Italian, with a hope to be able to learn Dutch again someday. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, still keep track with your videos and collab with Max. Keep it up man! (i'm a Vietnamese living in Hanoi btw)

Holy crap. Chris's mandarin is freaking awesome!
Thank you can be mainly said in two ways in Cantonese language. Actually, the form used by the second shopkeeper works only when you receive a present, when you are paid or when you are given a big favor. I do not know how to write in chinese characters the correct form one must use at the time of a business transaction. Still, I would tansliterate it like this : " Oom Koy Saï " , just to give you an idea of how it may sound in Cantonese.

I discovered your channel just today, and I am amazed by your language facility in "Hard" and "Super Hard" languages as defined by FSI. You may have addressed this in earlier videos, but HOW? Did you do a mission through your church? Peace Corps? Military? You don't look mixed race, so I'm guessing neither of your parents are native speakers. I believe you said in another video that you are single, so you didn't learn from a gf or wife. Good on you Mate!

Hi Chris Actually Cantonese is not a language like mandarin ,it's just a Dialects like Hokkien , Hakka, Teochew , Hainan ...etc...
