August 1988 - WNYW Commercial Break for The Chinese Connection

Ойын-сауық

1988 commercials for WNYW broadcast of The Chinese Connection. Btw, Bruce Lee was super cute and had the best reactions. That's why he's the thumbnail. Just putting that out there. ;D

Interesting find! As anyone who grew up in New York would remember, WNEW/WNYW would have the Drive In Movie on Saturday afternoons which showed kung fu movies! In July of 1988 the Drive In Movie was discontinued, but channel 5 would still have these movies for a few more years (mainly showing them in their late night Hollywood's Finest blocks), and this was one of them! The Chinese Connection (aka Fist Of Fury) was featured on the Drive In Movie just once, on January 26, 1985.

Also, interesting how they mention Burlington, NJ in the Burlington Coat Factory ad during a local break on a New York City station, since Burlington, NJ is part of the Philadelphia area.

Somehow those Francesco Rinaldi ads with Ralph Cantisano himself comparing the two sauces he created (including Ragu) were a scream.

Apparently Betty Crocker (formerly Fruit Corners) comparing to Sunkist Fun Fruits is probably the reason why the latter was discontinued...
