Audio Modeling SWAM Violin

Музыка

Audio Modeling SWAM Violin. All Violin, Cello and Viola tracks were recorded in real time with no editing. I used a Hornberg Research HB-1 breath controller and a Kurzweil PC3x as my keyboard controller. Vibrato was controlled by the modwheel.

How they achieved this level of realism without using samples is beyond me and i’ve been in the business for 35 years. Your knowledge of articulations and your real time control using the breath controller and mod wheel adds so much to the performance because you know how to use it and when not to use it. Well done!

Best synthetic violin I've ever heard. But my experience is that these things lose a lot of their lustre when you remove the reverb.

The reverb that it comes with isn't that great either, imo; You really need to throw on some impulse response stuff... And without a breath controller to handle the vast number of expression controls, I simply can't get anywhere near what this guy is doing -- at least not without going back to add a ton of automation after the fact.

Finally the most realistic and excellent emulation of strings I've ever heard! So far Virharmonic and Chris Hein have achieved tremendous realism and play-ability Samplemodeling carries the torch forward 10/10 for articulations and playability 8/10 for sound.

Indeed, it does sound amazing. It's just as good as the other string instruments. And they sound really good together, even without a breath controller (although, obviously, they would sound better with one). I made a little demo of all SWAM string instruments playing together, if you wanna have a look. In my opinion, there just aren't enough SWAM or Sample Modeling instruments demos on youtube XD. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iY6OmtePgKrMfqw.html

It is my understanding that SWAM will be coming out with an iOS version of this! My iPad is ready and waiting. I plan on triggering from my Yamaha MODX7 in live performance situations. I'm especially interested in the beautiful violin (think Black Water by the Doobies) and the sax for several songs by Pink Floyd, Huey Lewis, soul and Motown artists. Exciting times. Awesome demo. You can control two independent sources with the HB-1 dual mode. Apparently a quad mode will be available soon. I typically use the HB-1 for dynamics and mod wheel for vibrato. You can also map the CC settings in the Violin. I have CC2 routed to dynamics, bow pressure and vibrato rate. All at independent ratios. :)

Nice to see a proper player demoing the software. When you play, shifting sounds natural and subtle. When I watch other videos that awful awful portamento lets down the whole sound and should be avoided at all costs!. Am I right in assuming that this is due to those players not having an understanding of violin playing or is that a function of the software/playing speed? Also, is there a way of varying vibrato speed as that is another dead giveway. Otherwise, this is pretty close!

Really fantastic work. Question: The chromatic fall at 2:28, was that a choice you made or a limitation in the product? That is, would this product allow you to glissando down the way you glissandoed up at 2:25 and 1:44?

Wow! I used their cello for a pit orchestra gig. I even tricked a string player to think there was a real cellist in the pit. What did you use to record the trio? I remember trying to record wind data in the 90's (using Cakewalk) only to crash the computer after only two measures of playing. It was overwhelmed.

Very funny re virtual vibrato with no after touch !The HB-1 is incredibly pricey at $850 compared to the TEC at $150 or so.Could you comment on how close one could come to your demo using the TEC. Specifically what technical things does the HB-1 have not present in the TEC that you can actually hear ?

  • @perrydarmond7162

The TEC will certainly work. I am a bit of a geek for breath controllers. I had a Steiner Master's Touch in the 80's. Breath control with CV out for my analogue synths! The sensor in the HB-1 is amazingly smooth and fast. The build quality is amazing. I have owned a TEC USB BC. I prefer the feel of the HB-1.
