Audi S4 IMSA GTO // Hans Stuck 720Hp Straight 5 Monster
Demonstration run of the 720Hp Straight 5 engined Audi S4 that was built on the base of the highly successful Audi 90 IMSA that dominated the Trans AM series in late 80´s, early 90´s. This S4 version was used on the Modified Saloon Wesbank Series with incredible success between 1992 and 1994.
Driven by another legend in his own right, Hans Joachim Stuck, the car was once again properly used on Shelsley Walsh Hilllclimb, last year. An incredibly sounding #HillclimbMonster with an outstanding curriculum

Used to love watching the Westbank Modifieds from Kyalami during the late 80's and into early 90's with Sarel van der Merwe at the front most of the time..Awesome piece of automotive engineering.
from a distance the waste gate sounds like wildlife in a rainforest.

@@TurboTaco2JZ yes it did have Umluf. And no, its not the wastegate you're haaring... wastegates dont make noise, only if its for a WG thats not routed back in the exhaust ( screamer pipe is the hyped up term theyball refer to nowadays 🤣)

@@TurboTaco2JZ turbos have inertia. Even if the diesel engine has no throttle plate, the rpm reduction can cause momentary surge... Anyways look at any racecar, any proper one, especially the 80's ones. No BOV... antilag or not. You getbthat characteric noise... have a look at the Electramotive GTP cars...

This car was used in the South African modified saloon championship. I see it still has the A1 "WesBank" number on the side indicating that it won the championship

One of these Cats Was Aldo used in The Finnish super Saloon championcip.
Saw this car in the early-to-mid 1990s race at tracks in South Africa, Kyalami, Zwatkops, East London, Killarney, Welkom....it was a monster...this video does not justify the sheer joy I experienced when it came rushing past the pit wall, mere meters away from where I would stand and spectate....it was pure bliss....the regular pilots were Terry Moss and Chris Aberdein...heros😍

Those were the days @gerdherman752, Swatkops was a great track, very intimate, remember Sarel absolutely driving the wheels off a Ford Galaxy, what a Legend
Truly a monster....the video only does it half the justice!!! just seeing and hearing it is one thing....but you feel it as well...truly big goosebumps, i was stood on Crossing bend only 10 feet away as it thundered past with that amazing chirrupping noise and the ground beneath me was trembling, never felt anything like it before!! hopefully i will see it again one day!

and Ben Morgenrood in his 3-Rotor, 1,962cc, normally aspirated, rear-wheel drive Mazda 323 chased the 2 Audis, the 2 Ford Sapphire Turbos, the Nissan ZX Twin Turbo, and others beating all of them on many occasions !

That whistling/flutter sound is not the blow off valve. It's compressor surge of the turbo.

It is the missing diverter valve (Schubumluftventil) in those race engines. In serial production cars it reduces pressure from turbo to combustion chamber when you step off the gas. When it is missing in race cars, the pressure against the turbo leads to deceleration of the tubine shaft and the pulsation causes this flutter sound. Look at engine bay pics from rally audis, they still have wategates.
This car and it's sister were built in South Africa by Audi Motorsport. They were driven by Terry Moss and Chris Aberdien.

It was a new car, compared to the 90.. but it still somehow featured and engine, with 85% in front of the front-axle. Giving it problematic driving abilities.. nonetheless it won because of the incredible power from the 2,2 litre engine. 325 hp per liter... that's quite amazing. While the Mazda with the 13b triple rotor actually stood up to it, with rotary power.. The sound must've been unbelievable

How do you make your car sound like bird and chirp it's not a bov and it's not fluttering or turbo surge can someone please explain running prototype components on these engines design by engineers For rally racing not off the shells parts or aftermarkets it's like true ALS anti-lag where you take the fresh air from the intake and dump it back in your exhaust manifold to keep your turbo spinning that's where you get the loud bangs and pops now can somebody please explain to me how do you get the bird chirping sound

I've been told that when they let off, the throttle plate snaps shut sending the air back through the turbo. How it sounds like this, I do not know. I don't even know if this is factual. I've just been told this a couple times.

It is turbo flutter, if you want to recreate it then you need to copy the intake design as that is the main part that changes the sound, generally these cars just ran the air filter bolted to the turbo.

Turbo fluttering does "STUTUTUTUTUTU" when you stop pressing the gas. A bov does "PSSSHHHHHHHHHHHH" when you stop pressing the gas. A wastegate does a sound but when you are pressing the gas

so some cars have both wastegate and turbo flutter or both wastegate and bov.But whats the turvo fluttering?is that happens when you dont put a blow off valve in your turbo?

That's right. When you are accelerating, you are building up pressure in your intake manifold (between the engine and the turbo). The problem is that when you stop pressing the gas, the throttle body closes so the pressurised air has no way to go. This is the purpose of the bov. When you don't have a bov, the air is going back to the turbo while the blades are spinning (the blades feed air into the manifold but the air is going back at the same time) thus making the stutututtu sound

Double clutch to downshift is so old
Slightly modifying the front does not an S4 make. Remember that the S4's of the day were based on the Audi 100 (C4) body, which is a much larger four door car.

The S1 Pike peak had 600 HP, this engine is from the Audi 90 IMSA GTO with 720 HP
Walter Röhrl sollte besser den Wagen fahren. Dann bleibt auch Gummi auf der Strasse.

They raced in imsa gto after the trans am. They had trouble with transmission or something like that and they had to limit the power at around 750 hp. Sadly the ford 1300 hp 4 banger and nissan twin turbo v6 was a little too much for them and they decided to quit.
