The first RS6 started production way back in 2002. It featured a 4.2-litre V8 and came as both a saloon and an estate. In 2008 the second generation of the RS6 came along, which was perhaps the most brutal out of all the RS6s. It sported a 5.0-litre V10 from the Lamborghini Gallardo, which will give you an idea of just what a beast it was. While it did come in saloon form, these are rare, with just 1,500 out of the overall 8,000 making it onto the road.
The way the RS6 handles is something you have to admire. It has a much improved balance over the previous generation version, helped by the active diffs, which really come into their own in this generation. The straight-line performance is outrageous, with a 0-60mph time of just 3.6 seconds and a top speed limited to 190mph depending on which trim level you opt for. What is also remarkable about the RS6 is just how easily it can settle down. If you want it to be a performance car, it will happily be one, but it can also be a great motorway cruiser.
The RS6 is only offered with one engine, a 4.0-litre V8, that comes with Quattro all-wheel-drive and an eight-speed silky smooth tip-tronic gearbox.
The RS6 also feels just as quiet & comfortable as a standard A6 Avant, as there is hardly any wind noise at speed and the air suspension absorbs bumps superbly, providing you keep it in its most comfortable setting.
The general build quality of the RS6 is superb and unlike other cars that cost over £100,000, the RS6 feels more than worth it. The interior is well-made, simple to use and is packed full of high quality materials. The leather sports seats are fully electronic with heated and air cooled functions.
The RS6 has a 565 litre boot that is well shaped and can handle huge loads and with the seats folded down this increases to an equally impressive 1,680 litres. The electric tailgate also adds to the easy accessibility of the RS6, plus it can seat five adults comfortably making it highly useable as an every day family car, which many RS6 owners do.
You are going to find it hard to deny the appeal of Audi's RS6 Super Wagon. It looks sick, it's as fast as hell, it's hugely comfortable inside and has some of the best multimedia and safety tech in the world. Is there a better single do-it-all car than this currently on the market I ask?
