Hi Robert, I have now done about 63k miles in 4.5 years so cannot comment on a 100k vehicle. The service intervals are at about 20+k miles. All they do is change the air filters for the aircon and replace the battery coolant. It costs about £160, much cheaper that ICE vehicle of same mileage. I have never needed brake pads or discs or any other replacements other than tyres. Still the best car I ever had in 55 years of driving.

I say hello from Norway. Europe's most car-electrified country😉 I really appreciate your way of showing tests of electric cars. Journalists usually only have a few hours in the car, and then speak. Here you get statements from someone who has the car in everyday use. By the way, love your way of presenting. Hope your channel grows to new heights! 👍🏻

I have been the owner of an identical car to the one in this review for 20 months and have done 28k miles and everything you say is spot on about the car and charging. Simply the best car I have ever had in over 50 years. I have taken it to central France twice using the charging system recommendations installed in the satnav. That system is worth a review of its own. A most excellent and accurate review.

@@cbsoon9308 Sorry for the delay, I never received a notification about your question. I have now had the car since July 2019 (over 4 years) and have done 60,000 miles. I have found no difference with the battery at all, in fact I have learned how to manage it even better and I now (in the summer anyway) have a greater mileage available to me. When I bought the car they guaranteed the battery would be 90% of its original power after 8 years and we would seem to be on that trajectory.

@@adamchadwick5171 Hi Adam, I have not been to France since with my dogs due to the costs imposed by bloody Brexit but even two years ago there was a very good charging system being implemented on their main routes and in towns etc. The Apps a found two years ago, there will be more now, are: Sodetrel Mobile, Smoov, Freshmile, and Ionity. In truth the car tells you where they are for the whole of Europe and for many an indication of their availability. I hope this helps.

Funny because I want others to know that I'm driving an EV. The only way I can tell with a Benz, or E-Tron and the rest is to see if that thing in the front is a real air grill or a fake air grill. Doesn't matter though because whether it's at a charger or off a red light the only time I see those other EVs grills is in my rearview mirror.

As an etron owner I, more or less, agree with all of your perspectives. It is an excellent car, comfortable and powerful. Long distance travel is bit of a challenge in the US as you have to plan it a bit more. But for 95% of my travel which is in the city and charged at home, I would prefer the comfort and ride quality. Really Interesting Richard and I don't have an electric car! I often wondered what all these different chargers are like as it always striked me as a real mix even just to look at. I would say, not that I'm an expert in these matters that the biggest challenge for winning people over to electric cars, apart from the price points maybe, is range and having peace of mind they will be able to plug in and drive away without any hassle, sounds like they're getting there but still some work to do. Good job 👍

A great look around a superb car Rich thanks 🙂👍🏻 But yeh, it would seem a lot of work is needed on the network to get charging done more easily and without having to have every app signed in. Like plenty of ppl have said, once you lose mobile phone signal the app is useless and you are better with a physical card I think anyway. I have had loads of app issues over the years with login issues or updates breaking app's and all sorts. Can't beat a card for those occasions.

In addition the leasing rates are terrible compare to AUDI. If they actually want to get a serious amount of cars on the road they need to fix that and be competition for the thousands of company cars in Germany.

At 8:30 you mention how it doesnt look electric, which in my opinion is actually one of the pros of this car. most electric cars, especially japanese once and mercedes, look really ugly and freaky, like they are trying to prove something. The e tron is the only ev that looks like a normal car, and one of the only good looking evs. For ice car owners its an easier transition. IONIQ 5 will be the next big competitor to Tesla M3 (although different market - probably broader appeal than M3). Really good on paper specs and sneak peak reviews. Looks - well that's a very personal opinion. Suggest you try that one next - maybe get an early demo sample and do a video. For my situation, I need usable 500km range minimum (310 miles), so that rules out most EV's for now, except M3 LR (get 530 kms usable when fully charged), which I purchased (found the transition from Audi's very easy, by the way). With 40kW solar panels at home, I only want to charge once a week if possible (i.e. during daytime on a weekend). Better for the environment and the hip pocket (4.5X cheaper using solar panels and 2.5X cheaper using grid, than using a superchargers). As always, great viewing.

It just looks, feels and drives like a very nice car that just happens to be electric. BP pulse are by far the best value for money especially if you sign up for a membership. Good video. I think Tesla has lit a fire under some of the other manufacturers - they know they can’t just survive on their laurels - they have to play their A game when it comes to EV. Seems the strong competition will be mainly in the battery space - who can come up with a battery that doesn’t consume finite resources from politically ravaged countries, batteries that provide greater range, batteries that can be easily recycled, etc. The industry will probably settle that 20 years from now - and until then it will feel like chaos. We live in interesting times.

  • @updlate4756
    @updlate47563 жыл бұрын

Just a reminder folks... the reason Tesla chargers are so good is because they're a CLOSED network that only Tesla vehicles can use, which allows Tesla to simplify their billing process. They have no need to concern themselves with billing people who are driving other brands. Their chargers are effectively spigots for electricity with all of the billing software built into the cars. Every other charging network is an open network that can be used to charge all EVs universally. Clearly that adds a bit of complexity just like it does at a gas station. Tesla has refused to open their network, choosing instead to use their network as a competitive advantage; with their legions of fans / shareholders claiming the universal networks aren't sufficient... most of the time without ever having used them! For Tesla to build their network has taken loads of money, often from banks, private investors, the government / taxpayers, and even other OEMs as a result of government emissions credit programs. This is money that could be going towards supporting universal charging networks instead of Tesla's closed network. Tesla's network doesn't do the overall auto industry any good in their transition to EVs, if anything it stymies it... Minor improvements in convenience from Tesla's network have lead to the spread of misinformation about the universal charging networks; claims that there aren't enough chargers or they don't always work. That's patently false. There are loads of universal chargers up across Europe and the US, and more being added every day. They may require a cell phone app to be setup, but once done, you're good to go. They may be slightly more involved to use, and by that I mean it may take a person 30-60 additional seconds to start their charge. No, it isn't almost instant like a Tesla, but it's also not an issue. I point this out because IMO closed fueling networks are a terrible idea, and if other brands were to follow suit, it would be a large waste of resources in having every brand have to produce and install their own charging stations all over the place. Do we prefer 10+ completely separate closed brand specific chargers every 50 miles along the highways, or would it make more sense to have just a few competing universal charging stations? Do we want all fueling prices controlled by the OEMs that sold us the cars, or by competing universal charging companies?

I’m in between. Stage of selling my lovely Audi A6 black edition with all the toys only because of ULEZ and mileage I’ve done. The fuel economy is amazing, 3L V6 TDI 36 round town to 43/44 long run. My concern is the travel distance, you say the 55KW E-trim would get about 200 miles out of the charge. When I get to a charging point how long does it take to get from say 10% to 100% or 90% and roughly what cost would it be?

Great video and I appreciate the insight. I have a Tesla MYLR on order, but with all the delays, its causing me to do more research and the closer we creep to 2022, I find myself wanting to wait on the Tesla and test drive other EVs. After this video, I do plan to test drive the 2022 Audi E-Tron Q4 when it gets to the States. I am pretty torn between the two vehicles as I spend a good amount of time commuting, so want a comfortable, quiet ride, but I also love technology. Thank you so much for these great videos!

I filmed a polestar review before but it had to just be by myself on my phone so it was too low equality to use in the end. Will do a proper version soon. In summary it’s ok but it’s efficiency and charge speed fell far behind a model 3. It didn’t feel better, faster, more premium so I’d struggle to have one over a model 3 except for perhaps its hatchback practicality. It will be good for some, but technically it felt too far short on the charge speed and economy. I drove the polestar for the carwow range test video until it died at less than 200 miles...

Biggest hate I have of the M3 is ride quality is awful IMO. Too harsh. Given the battery size I would say the range was rather poor in the Audi. I have signed up to every network I can find. Although I have a Tesla, their chargers can fail too so a backup is essential.

surely if we used old language and talked about mpg, then the ratio would be Tesla LR does 60mpg and the Audi does around 35mpg.... as neither are what you'd call top end Luxury (ie. Lucid) the answer seems even more obvious. For anyone that thinks charging on the run isn't important, well i was running late today and having to charge nearly 50% fewer times would make a huge difference.

I would like to replace my diesel Q7 with an etron but I need it for towing a 1650 kgs caravan. I would expect the range would drop from 180-200 miles to 100-120 miles when towing make a trip to France more problematic. Have you ever towed with an electric car? This is the one thing holding me back from going electric. I know the etron can tow 1800 kgs and a Model X much more. Also - i think the new Skoda Enyak has potential to be a great family car. Something for you to try? Its certainly more interesting than the VW ID.4. I find most VWs very boring these days (GTI excepted). Skoda and SEAT take the excellent VW platform and make it their own.

Simple high speed charging is a requirement. Some drivers are not tech savvy, get flustered etc. It needs to be simple and in truth tesla make it so easy. The car does the work, selects the station and shows availability. They are always fast, not hidden in the back of a pub or private work place. Using a phone and filtering the options is a pain. Cost is vital! Spending alot more to buy and insure an ev means you do want cheaper travel and as more homes get an ev it wont be possible to charge at home or work. My home is currently 15p and Tesla super was at 30p but some third party chargers are 70p which is far more than petrol or diesel.

So, just asking, why not state what the difference is in charge cost between Tesla and that's others? In my experience non-Tesla chargers cost twice as much. I know, you usually charge at home but this is a factor in the purchase desicion and it should be pointed out. On top of that chargers not working are a huge problem and cause the would be user untold stress.

Could you try an Xpeng P7? Love my Model S but I'm really intrigued by the tech XPeng has developed for the P7. It sucks not having 360 view in my Model S and the P7 has a "transparent chassis" mode where it overlays a semi transparent rendition of the car above where you are driving so you can see curbs and obstacles very clearly.
