The 12 cylinder engines in this class of cars is not for 0 to 60 times, it’s for the highway pulls. In this you will loose most red light races, but on the highway very few can touch these cars.

Actually, the person in the video is incorrect. The Audi doesn't share a platform with the Bentley Continental GT. The Bentley chassis is steel, not aluminum. It actually shares the VW Phaeton platform. The internal VW/Audi code for the steel platform is "D1". The 2005 A8 model used the "D3". And Lamborghini has never used a W12 engine in any of their cars. Their V12 uses no VW/Audi components. Also, since Audi is a German name, it is pronounced "ow-dee" not "aw-dee".

3:55 - they also don't tell you that thanks to being about 20% lighter than the bentley flying spur, it has a better torque to weight ratio and the 0-60 times are identical. Fuel economy is 15% better overall too.

You're wrong about the Audi sharing its architecture with the Bentley. The only thing those two cars share of significance is the W12 engine. However, the Volkswagen Phaeton does share its chassis (which is steel rather aluminium) with the Bentley as well as many other mechanical components FYI

Sadly, this poor chap is confused about quite a few of this car's features. The most glaring is his assertion that this car has anything at all in common with the Bentley. It absolutely does not!! The car he is thinking of is the VW Phaeton. That car is basically a restyled Flying Spur. For the A8, Audi designed it's own bespoke chassis using it's legendary and trademark aluminum technology. It also uses an entirely different drive system based on their Quattro technology, while both the Bentley and VW use a version of VW's 4motion. If you are going to do a review don't put out misinformation and practice a little before you start rolling the camera so you don't look like a stressed out tweaker.

The A8 running gear (air suspension, control arms, steering etc..) is the same as Phaeton and Bentley. Look at the part numbers, all start 4E0. the A8 has the advantages (and disadvantages) of being all aluminium.

+youaintgotnopancake Well, this one is better for traction. But this engine had some reliability issues in the past. The Merc has a 36 valves V12 bi-turbo which appears to be ultra reliable. But the car is only available in rwd.

I'm just sharing my research here about this car. ----------------------------------- I have found that it has timing BELT (not chain, belt!). And for replacing belt you need to take engine out of car, so it is hardly DIY job. So proper maintenance is required. If you ignore that, it will run great until one day you hear "snap". I think that any (future) owner should be aware of that.

In all the videos I've seen of the W12 engine being built, timing is controlled by a chain. It should last the life of the engine. The tensioners might need to be adjusted or possibly even replaced if they are damaged (which shouldn't happen under normal use). In the various used-car "buyers' guides" I've read on the Audi A8, Volkswagen Phaeton and Bentley Continental/Flying Spur that uses this engine, I've never seen any major issues to watch out for in the engine itself. In some other Audi engines (like the 4.2 liter V8) there can be issues with clogged oil galleys if the owner didn't use full synthetic oil or change the oil in a timely manner. But I haven't heard of the W12 suffering from this problem (though you'd have to be a bit daft to use cheap oil in this sort of car).

Chris is right about the msrp being over 120k,It is very expensive,over engineered and lacks resale value! Service cost is very expensive but this was not meant to be a poorman's Audi ! These cars are very rare! If you go to Germany don't be surprise if you Don't find any A8 W12L in every upscale shopping mall's parking lot because there aren't any! You will find a lot of TDI models(diesels)instead! The W12 models are too much of a gas guzzler for it's home market!

this is the reason not many of these ultra expensive mega-behemoths are no longer on the road; they get old and you find out they're built from the same shit metal from which all other cars are built; they develop the same mechanical and electrical faults as all other cars; the only difference is that the staggering complexity renders them totally uneconomical to repair; the long-term luxury car is one of the biggest myths ever to be foisted on those with sufficiently deep pockets; pretty though

I know this isnt going to be very popular but from the outside it just doesnt look that outstanding - it just looks like any other German high quality car.
