I have a 1996 Audi A3 with the same noise when sligthly turning. Would change the steering pump pulley but with this video I'm more confident that the source of the noise is the alternator one. Thank you

I would say the alternator comes out easier if you remove some pipework around it, and the belt tensioner needs at least 90 degrees turn to get the belt back on. That last part was quite difficult and would have been easier with a long 16mm spanner, access is so restricted. But thank you for the video, it gave me the confidence to complete this job and save around 120 to 150 pounds as most garages seem to inflate parts prices and more often will go straight for full alternator replacement.

i have a 1.9 tdi 2004 and some nasty sound lately.. it is only there in idle and when I rev it a little towards 1.000rpm the sound is gone. Can it have to do with this as well?

I just got the exact same noise. It goes away if I press on gas while turning. I was going to change the powersteering pump first but came into different thoughts after this

Hi. My Audi A4 B6 1.9TDi is making the same noise (squeaky) whilst the car is idle & without turning the steering. Could it be the same thing? & can they get loose so U just tighten them or is it a replacement?

@@MrGilly Its developed into either Pulley or belt noise. Needs to go into Garage to confirm. Bit slack on that side.

I appreciate your attempt. But your talking about how you removed the Alternator versus you actually showing via video the removal process is two completely different things. Respectfully, if you cared about your audience you would have video recorded the actual removal process.

You have to remove/disconnect 2 screws and 2 cables in order to take the alternator out. Leave it to professional, if you need instructions for that.

Softy electric impact gun and spline 33 tooth’s will do the job in just a second to remove the pulley Honestly
