Audacity: How to Remove Instrumentals From a Song

Музыка

WATCH ME REACTING TO THIS VIDEO 8 YEARS LATER: • Reacting TO MY OLD TUT...
READ DESCRIPTION BEFORE PROCEEDING TO THE VIDEO!
A fairly brief tutorial on how to remove instrumentals from a song.
EDIT: If your instrumental or original track clips in any way, try to download another one with better quality. This will not work if one of the tracks clip. I am just giving out the basics on how to do this if two of the tracks are perfect. If there is slight clipping, use the clipping removal tool in audacity to fix it.
Also, this may not work for some of you because of the differing audio qualities such as bit depth/rate, if they weren't both at the same sample rate prior to being imported to audacity, different amplitudes/compression levels, etc., so let me NOTE THIS HERE: If you don't want to risk spending more than 30 minutes on this and fail, then click away, as you'll fail about 75% of the time. Just being realistic. Or maybe google "song title here" acapella, maybe you'll find something.
If I helped, please like my page on Facebook! Thank you :)

    I know this was from probably 6 years ago, but I tried what you said to remove the instrumentals from this old 2003 song. However, I could still hear the instrumentals very clearly. It was hard to notice the lowered volume, since the instrumental I found wasn't very good (at least I think so, both tracks were a little low-quality). But now I hear the vocals slightly on the LEFT side of my ear (aside from normally spoken words at the beginning), and the instrumentals seems to be heard slightly on the RIGHT side. I'm just wondering how I could probably fix this. If it helps, the song is Word Life by John Cena.

    If it doesn't work for you guys, don't sweat it, this method doesn't work for all songs. You can always try plan B, which is importing the same track a second time, use the vocal remover effect on the second one, and use the noise remover on the first one, referencing to your second one's background music track as the noise. It mostly works on any type of song, and you don't need to take time finding the same quality background track, if there is one.

    this helped me, thankyou! The part where negative turns the positive into negative is not fully true. the soundwave is inverted from let's say +30 to -30 and added to the +30 from the original. so 30+ -30 = 0. the sound wave will be muted to 0 (almost). This is actually what noise cancelling headphones do. they have a microphone, they sample the freq. of sound around you and put a negative sound in the same freq. this results in a noise cancelled area where your music is clearly hearable. greetings.

  • @eduvinyl

    @eduvinyl

    9 жыл бұрын

    sugar westen As far as I know, the only way to break down a song into clean parts is by manipulating the original file with the original tracks. For example, if the song had vocals, a guitar and a bass (I don't include drums here, since tracking drums is a completely different story), you would have a file with 1 track per each of these 3 instruments. That way you'd be able to play around with them and isolate each completely.

  • @Serj3535
    @Serj353510 жыл бұрын

    It doesn't work because you are dealing with complex waveforms.. the wave form with the vocal differs from that with no vocal. There for when you invert the instrumental you are not completely canceling the one with the vocal in it. Leaving you with both vocal and instrument. What you might find in section where neither have vocal is they cancel out completely and you hear nothing.. correct me if anyone disagrees with what I just said.

    Actually, theorically, when you invert the song, the shapes of the waves are, of course, aswell inverted. Hence, they should cancel eachother with the normal waves of the song (basic physics =P). The result is that only the voice remains since the instruments had been canceled. But of course, the waves shapes not being perfectly the same...we can still hear them.

    does it depend on the song ur using? 'cause i did it, but the instrumental can be heard really good but it still sounds different.

    For someone who is a complete noob at audacity, like me, this wasn't helpful at all, you didn't explain how to 'cut' 'find the beat' or 'align' I guess I'm gonna have to acquaint myself with the basics of Audacity before I can do any of this. Still, thanks for the video. Thumbs up, clicked the like button.

    Sorry about that :( If I make tutorials in the future I will definitely take that into consideration.

    i'm having trouble doing this! pls help? so i downloaded the instrumental and the original song (both mp3), but when i open the files together, they appear in different windows. i tried dragging it over but it didn't work. this may sound a little stupid. is it because the version of audacity is too old? or did i do it the wrong way? i followed ur instructions. thank you.
