    I have attended Mecum Kissimmee for the past 5 years on a Standard Bidders Pass. 2024 results were a record of over 4300 solds and around $225 million in sales dollars. Always a great time. As a retired collector/dealer here's what I learned. Never buy at a Barrett Jackson auction. If you can't get a Friday or Saturday Barrett Jackson slot to sell then don't enter your vehicle. Next best place to buy is Scottsdale Pavilions Shopping Center only open every Saturday. Here you can take your time and take a vehicle your interest in on a freeway drive and even put it on a lift. No buyers or sellers fees. No taxes. One last learning experience is to not buy Canadian vehicles. They are recognized easily by not being air conditioned and have really bad under carriages. You have to get them up on a lift to see all under areas and they are usually rusted.

    With Mecum, you need not worry about losing money on the sale of the car at the auction. It's the business office that rips you off with the sellers fee, taxes, transportation services (nightmare) and incompetent staff handling title and ownership documents. I bought a 1980 Z28 that they failed to produce the title for the vehicle and 3 months after the purchase eventually had to buy the car back from me because they sold a vehicle they had legal authorization to sell at auction. Horrible auction, Horrible staff and business office.

    I been to several auctions lately. The high dollar rare stuff seems to sell, but about everything under $50k was not selling. Muscle cars and some old school hot rods was selling around $30k. Nothing else was selling. This economy has most people scared. The first signs the economy is going down hill is the toys stop selling. A guy that was making $100k four years ago is really making $75-$80k in real money today with inflation. People are starting to see it. The housing market is slowing down here. Looking at a house tomorrow that ran its contract time with the realtor. The home owner could not sell his house in 180 days with a realtor. He called me to see if I would buy it once the realtors term was up at a discount price. A year ago people was still paying over asking price in bidding wars. If this guy sold the house a year ago he would have made $100k more than he priced it to me for. Times are crazy and only getting worse going into an election year.

    Seems that it often works out terribly for both sellers AND buyers at Mecum and Barret Jackson car auctions. It is the auction house that laughs...and walks away with all the money. They make a profit simply to show the car and then make 20% for every car sold; 10% buyers premium and 10%sellers premium. Those purchasing classic cars at auctions have no idea as to any internal problems that could result in thousands of dollars in repair costs. You can also hire a mechanic to inspect a car before purchasing it from a private party or even a dealer, versus buying it at an auction, where the proverbial, 'lipstick on a pig', often comes into play.

  • @terrylessmann2274
    @terrylessmann22746 ай бұрын

    The people making $$$ are the auction houses. They get a fee just to run the car thru (price varies depending on day and time), they get 10% from the buyer and seller. Sure, they have to rent the building and pay some auctioneers, but they must be doing well with all the auctions that are popping up.

    I like the professional camera crew you hired for the auction. It might be something you want to do in the future for special events like this. For your regular vlog, the gopro is perfect. As for Mecum, the Mustang, Vette and Skyline were the right cars but as someone who has sold classics and specialty vehicles at Mecum, Barretts and other auctions like this, I can tell you the time and day are very big factors in the dollar amount you get. A car running on midday Weds will always do less money than an evening Friday run number. Just like running a car at the Auto Auction of NE, The car running at 10am will always do better than 12:30. There is a strategy when selling at these auctions. Feel free to reach out to me. .

    Who would have thought a basic GTST, run of the mill Corvette, and random Mercedes with peeling clear coat and busted roof wouldn't sell at a Collector Car auction? None of those cars are remotely rare or that collectible. GTSTs are rare to see, but not a rare car given the ease of availability to buy. These are all cars you toss online and wait for the one out of 10,000 people who want that specific car to come around. These auctions are kind of weak anyway now. Thanks to people bringing junk in with a new paint job and ruining the prestige of what it used to be. With that said, production value was really good. Video was good, commentary and interactions were good. Just stay away from collector car auctions with non-collector cars.

    Craig, I’m actually deployed in Japan right now and I’ve only seen one skyline that compared to yours, and I’ve seen 8 or 10 of them. That one was a red wide body. You did a great job with it!! If I had the money, I’d be coming home with one lol.

    He could have painted that R32 literally any other color and gotten good money. He put a V-spec paint job on a base model car and was hoping for a miracle. A fanboi might have considered it but the purists were laughing at it.

    Keep your head up Craig and keep asking the right questions and learning. I bought and sold cars for my dad’s dealership and when you’re dealing with the cars you have you’re way better off selling direct off the lot or online. They’re ordinary cars. Bring some extraordinary cars next time and find out what the market is wanting first. You got this!

    Right now people just don’t have the money. I’ve been trying to sell my 75 C3 Corvette, people like it. They want to trade for it.14,000 and I have a lot more money than that into it
