Beekeepers in particular tend to look inside their hives too often and wonder whether the bees are doing well.
Opening the hive is always a violent intervention in the well-being of a colony and always leads to a loss of heat inside the nest, which can be stressful, especially for the bees.
Such an intervention can lead to increased fuel consumption and a decrease in honey stores, as well as a reduction in immune defences against diseases, viruses and parasites, which in turn can lead to the collapse of the colony.
A bee colony needs rest throughout the bee season and especially during the winter months.
In the interest of the bees, we no longer open hives, because every opening causes stress for the bees and also for the beekeeper. With a little practice and with the help of suitable specialist literature, the well-being of a bee colony can also be determined very well by observing the flight hole. Thanks to the rear glass panes fitted to some of our hives, it is possible to observe the honeycomb construction and the presence of the bees without having to open the nest.
