    These are the memories that a young man will never forget. His dad teaching him all he knows and spending quality time with him. This is so heartwarming. Forget the mower, which is awesome and all but wow. So rare these days for the dad to actually spend quality time with his son. A++ dad right here. I can only hope to be such an awesome dad when my sons gets this age. Thanks for the video and the feel goods!

    Hope this comes out as a positive suggestion.... great job and wonderful to get your son involved. I would add a rock guard on the back, even if it is just lengths of chain hanging down, because you could send some debris out the back of that pretty easily. Look at most brush hogs or other mowers and you always see either chain or a big piece of steel to keep folks safe. Thanks for taking the time to film the project and share it with us. Just the right level of detail, not too deep in the weeds where we watch you paint it and then let it dry... lol. Keep it up, I would watch more of your videos.

    Bravo to you! My father took me everywhere with him & we fixed everything, built everything as we went. I swung wrenches, sawed, filed, drilled, fixed brakes, engine & everything on our cars. We laid concrete, built huts, sheds & cabins, drunk tea together in the large garden & I learned to be the most practical & hands on person....I am now 55 years old & I am happy to roll up my sleeves & have a go at anything.

    Wow. You're a genius. Such a great idea for a smoother cut with those tri-blades. Go look at Meg Mo System blades and you'll really set the woods afire. As someone who uses and has to redesign factory mowers for rougher work I really admire you. Wish I were your equal in welding. Super work, super idea, nice place to call home if you don't have to mow it. Mine's worse than yours.

    Nice job. I replaced the motor on my snowblower with a Preditor motor. Great motors, comparable to Honda's. Great to see you having your son help you out. I'm 67, my Dad did the same. I've always been able to find work because of him having me help him like you do with your kid. Fabrication skills in wood and metal, being able to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in all kinds of machinery and tools, including cars, has served me well. I did go to college, learned design and drafting skills. I discovered that I am not suited to be chained to a desk all day, I need to get my hands dirty, move around, use tools. I need to be engaged with my work on a physical level.

    A great project for dad and sons! An experience they will never forget. Since you have the caster holding up the back end, it seems like you could let the tongue pivot up and down. Then the mower would maintain a more consistent height and it would go over the ridges and through the valleys better that way. But man, it's got to be the loudest mower in the neighborhood, and you now have three engines to maintain instead of one. Maybe someday you and the boys can modify it with a single larger engine and a belt and pulleys.

    Im not too sure about 3 times the fuel, A single engine with enough power to turn those 3 blades would need to be atleast a 10hp maybe even 14hp. and that would suck down a gallon pretty quick, but those push mower engines run forever on that small tank of fuel. Id say they burn as similar or less

    The mower's tongue need's a simple up/down pivot point in front of and near the tongue jack. It gives the tongue freedom so the deck can float on it's wheels. It can be made from 2 short pieces of bar stock welded or double bolted to one side of the tongue and loosely single bolted on the other side of the tongue.

  • @TheKajunkat

    @TheKajunkat

    6 жыл бұрын

    I was thinking the same thing. It looks like the tongue is lifting the back of the ATV when it goes over a rise and causes the tail wheel to come off the ground. If that for some reason is intentional, go for it. I could see it putting stress on the tongue after awhile. maybe some type of limited joint on the tongue where it is only the tube. BTW, not really criticizing just commentating, that is a great home build and looks like it will work fine as is. It is just the tinkerer in me that wants to change it.

  • @jayss10

    @jayss10

    6 жыл бұрын

    Agree. You did an awesome job on the build. Like Johnny though I would recommend using a pivoting hitch so the mower can float. Like was noticed the rear of the mower came up at the top of a rise, conversely it will push down hard on the ATV/tailing wheel when rolling through a dip. Think hay wagon tongue.

    BobRossTheGreat But you gotta remember they are only 5.5hp motors. Most home decks that have 3 blades belt driven are at least 18hp. He is comparable to that at 16.5hp for 3 blades but better as there is no losses in belt tension and pulleys.

    I have one of the older blue harbor freight engines on my lawnmower. I don't know if the newer predator engines are the same internally, but my engine had a centrifugal compression release mechanism that makes it easy to pull the starter rope. I found that it actually makes it harder to start the engine because you have to turn the engine over much faster before it would start and it would huff and puff a bit before it got up to speed. It would also stall if you bog it down in tall, dense grass. I disabled it by removing a small pin on the mechanism and it runs so much better now. Starts on the first or second pull and handles high loads without issue. The only downside is you have to rotate it to the compression stroke before starting or it will sting a bit when the rope handle slips out of your hand. I agree with some other comments that a pivoting tongue would work better. Just cut the tongue ahead of the height adjustment jack and weld on some type of hinge. Nice build and I hope it's working well for you.

    You've done well Jeremy,...and in a few years you're little boy will appreciate what he's learned from his Dad. Not bad either for a first video,....refine it as you go,...it's most difficult to build the first one,....now you can make improvements as time goes on. " It's very easy to criticize ", and to those who would, I suggest they do better, and show us.

    Very cool diy project! I probably would have made a much larger deck if I had a property like that. And you can make extra money mowing fields with those 173 cc engines. As a safety precaution, I'd weld chains on the back to hang down to help stop wood chunks or other dangerous debris from flying out the back.

    Great job! I'm inspired! One thing i noticed was that the how hithc seemed to quite stiff in the upwards/downwards angle meaning that going up and down hill put's a lot of stress on the assembly. Anyway, great work!

    Just a note,, looked like a bit of wobble with the engines upon start up. Might need bracing along the top to beef up the engine brackets

    Tip: I built a small trailer to pull behind golf cart. For hitch, I used an 'tie-rod end' from a golf cart (bought it on e-bay). This allows full pivot!
