This video shows how I harvested a black walnut tree from a nearby forest. I used my stihl ms461 chainsaw to fell the timber. I also used my Log Rite ATV Arch to transport the timber.

Built my own "arch" around 20 years ago, still going strong. Use an '01 Honda Foreman (also have an '18 Foreman). I haul a LOT of wood with this rig, surprises lots of people just how large a log this will pull out of the woods. Glad to see you use a ball hitch. It took me quite a few years to learn that "ball" was the easiest way to go. Also, discovered that Kenda Bear Claw tires work MUCH better than the ol' stock ones that come on the Hondas. Live in western NY and am 66 y/o.

Just started watching. Great videos. Great to see someone with some old school ethics and common sense. That appreciates existing knowledge and embraces new technologies. And can meld together. Few and far between. You sir are the missing link between my generation and the youth of today. Meant in a good way.lol. Move forward but, never forget the past. Otherwise destin to repeat it. All those happy truths I ignored as a child. And those I didn't Got me through. Be safe and live well.

Nice built log arch! Looks to be very heavy duty & compact. I modified and old propane tank trailer into a log arch works pretty good just big and gawky. Got video of it on my channel. I liked your setup & good video footage.

@Turkey Hollow, Where did you find your tank trailer? I had this idea too but haven't found a trailer so far that wasn't brand new. I have a tree service and need a compact way to remove logs from back yards with minimal or no lawn damage for the homeowners. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. I am located in SE Minnesota.

I just kept visiting different local propane dealers and asking if they had any unused tank trailers or info where to find one, And finally had one guy to get my phone number that he may know were one was at. So afterwards a guy call that had the one i got. It was about an hour & 15 min, from where I lived. I got it for $600. I got new tires and wheels for $300 from a utility trailer dealer, and winch $300 at harbor freight. Small town dealers would be a good start.

Looking at buying that very arch, and maybe the Jr. arch for extra long logs. But, in this case, could the ATV arch have fully suspended that log? Or was that the best fit you could muster? Not criticizing at all, just trying to get a feel for the arch's carrying capacity, especially log length wise. Thanks. Great video!

Another great one! A few questions if you have a moment. What size bar is that on your 046? If you're cutting an 8' board how much beyond 8' do you go when cutting the log? Was that Anchor seal in the bucket and can you leave it in a bucket like that for a while to have on hand when you need it? I'm sure your life isn't all sunny days and well figured walnut but man you make it look like it is.

It is a 32in bar on that video. The chainsaw is the 461 model. I usually saw them about 4 inches beyond the desired length, yes on anchorseal and I leave it in that bucket all the time with no problems. Watch my gamma lids video for more on those style buckets, As of late everyday is walnut day. Just acquired another good stand of walnut trees today (free!). Thanks for watching and the questions.

Not to sound all tree hugger because I'm certainly not but do you ever feel bad taking down some trees? I know this is your business but do you ever stand back and say this is an awesome old tree and it would be a shame to cut it down. Im not talking about the particular tree in this video and I know they're others that just need to come down for whatever reason. I'm really not a tree hugger I promise and love your videos.

I cant relate to that in my line of work. Most trees I get are fro free and are either dead (like this one) or the land owner wants them removed for various reasons. I am not a commercial logger that just buys tracts and clear cuts. I am very responsible and take down only trees that the owner have already decided the fate for prior to my harvesting. A good thought though, thanks for watching! I appreciate that question.
