I have been helping the gulf fritillary and monarch butterfly population for about a year now buying all the host plants and preparing space in my yard for my first butterfly garden. I'm so excited, recently i came across 2 giant swallowtail butterflies flying around in my Miami Florida garden. I looked up their host plants and went out to get them. 1 month later I found eggs on my wild lime. I had 3 caterpillars but only two have survived. Can't wait. Love your channel.

Congratulations. It has been a slow summer for me with my black swallowtails. I hope your caterpillars make it through to become beautiful butterflies.

I think the Giant Swallowtail just plain ol likes purple flowers. I have a blooming magenta Dianthus here in north Texas and the Giant Swallowtail are all over it like bees to honey. I noticed so many of your pictures shows the Giant Swallowtail on purple flowers, too!

Definitely going to get rue, would love to attract giant swallowtails. I let my cilantro, parsley and dill reseed itself now it’s coming up everywhere, black swallow tails will be happy. Last year though they chose the carrot tops.

Terri, great to hear your creating lots of host plants for the swallowtails! I was hoping my fennel and parsley would comeback this year, but no signs of it yet? I may need to reintroduce them. The Dill seems to always come back strong. I am excited to hopefully get Black and Giant Swallowtails laying eggs in my garden this year!

My rue does not do well here in Florida. So far I've had 4 plants that does this year. But my lemon and wild lime and dill and parsley do just fine.

In Florida you have the opportunity with Lemon and lime. Unfortunately in MN we can't grow these, but Rue, Dill and Parsley grow great!

Hi, I have 3 catterpillars in my garden bit I will run out of my small citrus tree that is barely growing. I bought a lot of Rue and want to transfer them to the Rue. Will they be ok with the change of diet?

That shouldn't be a problem. They eat either, they will adjust and eat the Rue. It sound fabulous, I wish you well with these hungry caterpillars.

It can happen with just one plant. I attracted the Black Swallowtail with just one Dill plant. It was covered with eggs then caterpillars. Although one will work, I encourage more. I planted just Rue two plants to attract the Giant Swallowtail. I have not seen eggs yet this year?
