What an excellent presentation! As new bird watchers in Maryland near DC, my mom and I have identified many of the birds here. Your tips are really helpful. I do want to find a water dish with a de-icing component as we move into winter, and hope to find a video on that subject. Subscribed!

We used to have a lovely Samoyed. The little birds loved her fur for their nests. If we put it out in the morning, it would be gone within hours.

Some years ago I have several times been trying the same with the winter fur of my Icelandic ponies in spring, but all the birds weren't interested in at all. An old cover picture of an Icelandic horses' magazine ("Das Islandpferd"/Germany) showed two grazing ponies whereas two ravens/crows were making "self-service" on the back of the ponies whose long winter hair can easily be removed in spring.

morning.... i'm a newbe at this whole bird feeding thing & live in connecticut. It was nice to finally find a site other then the states that don't experience harsh winters. i've had several bird house outside for a year now & finally 3 of them were occupied this past summer. i got so excited. so i thinking my patience needs alittle work since this is the first year in regards to feeding during the winter months. ur video was so encouraging & informative, can't wait til i have more time to tap into ur complete site. thank u !

I had heard in winter you should put rocks in bottom of shallow dish to make sure they can drink but not take a bath in the cold. Apparently if feathers get wet ice crystals prevent them from keeping warm

I bought two bird houses like what u show a basket type material. I didn’t think the hummingbirds would use it . So I returned them . By watching your video I see now that it’s not just for nesting. They can use it for shelter in the rain. I’m in California and right now the trees have no leaves . I’m in in an apartment I have a balcony. Last week I noticed one hummingbird came in out of the rain to dry off . So maybe I need to order the basket hummingbird basket and hang on a hook with my plant. We can’t hang things on the balcony. We can use the plant hangers. I have sm one in my plants. I don’t have much space. Your video was helpful ty.

Birds can get sick from dirty feeders. Stop needless suffering by scrubbing feeders and baths with a brush in soapy water when they are dirty and every 3 weeks even if they don't appear to need it. Rinse very well and DRY very well. Move to a new area, hang, and enjoy! 🐦

  • @carolro6673

@@capicuaaa how pray tell do you feed both? In order to feed birds, it is necessary to provide a protected feed station for them. If the squirrels “crack the code” and they often do by breaking into the bird feeders, then the birds are shut out…squirrels take over. Birds leave. Also squirrels raid the garden. Especially the squash and pumpkin. They chew into flesh and while they are at it, they pee on them. Cover the fruits up with netting and they uncover while I am sleeping. Birds don’t get into my garden, as long as I provide clean water and food for them. Lastly, squirrels are rodents, large fluffy rats. Squirrels do a lot of damage to farm crops. Ask a farmer.

A squirrel baffle works great! They can be mounted on a pole, just make sure they are 4-5 feet high, and in a place where the squirrel cannot jump down, or across, from another structure to get on top of it. There are also a lot of great squirrel-proof feeders available. The Brome and Droll Yankee lines have some really great stuff. www.thebirdhouseny.com/product-category/bird-feeders/squirrel-proof-feeders/
