Hi Dahin, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! Have you tried positive peer pressure? It depends what reward system you like using, but you can have that student's team lose points every time they show unwanted behavior. This means that other team mates then get frustrated when that student losses them a point. It's really important though that you are then giving points immediately as soon as you see the behavior you want to see and tell the whole class that you're giving a point to that student because of that good behavior. This way you are also praising that student in front of the class. It doesn't change behavior overnight, but long term consistency can really make a difference. I hope that helps!

Hi Jema, I became a new teacher about two weeks ago. When I'm facing a class of 3 or 4-year-olds I feel relaxed, but my mind blanks out when I perform a class to colleagues who have been teaching for at least several months. How can I improve this?

Hi Annett, thanks for watching! I think it's normal to be nervous when teaching in front of peers. Even I can get nervous when I have others observing my class. Remember, those teachers were in the same place as you just a few months ago and no-one is there to judge you. I think you will find that as you gain experience and your confidence grows, you will feel more comfortable. In the mean time, try to get to know your colleagues better, the more you know them the more you will feel comfortable with them in the classroom. I hope that helps some!

Hi Ramak, thanks for watching! I actually talk more about this in my first attention grabbers video. The key is to practice at the beginning of the class while you have students attention. Then, keep practicing throughout the class at random times when you know they are listening. You can then reward the class or praise them when they reply correctly. They may not all reply at once so highlight and praise the first few students that do. After you have done that for a few days, the class will start responding more and more 😊

Hi Ben, thanks for watching and welcome to the Mooncake community! I taught in China for ten years and built a successful career there. However, I wouldn't recommend teaching in China right now. There are many covid restrictions which causes job instability and the ESL industry is primed for an overhaul soon. That said, there are some very high salaries to be had if you do teach right now, due to a sever lack of teachers. I hope that helps you make a decision... where are you teaching now?

Hi Julie, the whiny voice, a common issue 😂 I usually use peer pressure and positive reinforcement. I will highlight others in the class speaking nicely, give points to the team using a nice voice if using a points system, and highlight and encourage any improvement shown from the student. I mentioned my classroom management video in my other reply to you, I think that can also help with this issue here. Best of luck! 😊
