In my country, guache is like a starter medium for beginners. You can get it at every store in little cartboard boxes for pretty cheap. I used guache for every school project in primary school. It’s so much fun to watch videos of people trying guache for the first time, because i grew up with it. :)

Good gouache is really high quality though, it is still kind of challenging to use well. It's often used for kids stuff in this jelly form, but good gouache will break the bank unfortunately =(

guache or tempera?
I thought it was gonna be more abstract by the end than your usual art just because of the struggle w gouache but wow it looks so good and realistic!! I can't believe how you made that water pop it's so impressive it really looks like a wet dripping leaf
i think some transparent gesso would be a worthwhile investment for this challenge! esp. since the surface’s colour is a pretty big part of the challenge hahah i’m the exact reverse, watercolor/gouche painter venturing into coloured pencils so this is really cool to witness

A tip to make the Pantone cards more workable with the gouache is to use transparent watercolor ground.
@Skunkforge
Жыл бұрын
Good call on the watercolour ground. I would've probably tried to use sandpaper and messed up the card...
@annadownya7754

Transparent gesso will also work! I go back and forth with both.
@raikuthedragon3907
Жыл бұрын
@@annadownya7754 I think it depends on what you use and how. Watercolor ground is more absorbent so more watered down gouache can be used, whereas gesso I believe is a little bit smoother and not as absorbent for acrylics. I think it’s up to the individual of course but for gouache I personally prefer watercolor ground.
@nickorange4881

I just got that to try since i have some watercolor . I've never used watercolor ground. Can you explain it ?
@nickorange4881
Жыл бұрын
@@Skunkforge O.O i was thinking about that. D : lol oh no. I would have been way wrong.
in my experience, it’s much easier to paint with gouache on absorbent paper (like watercolour paper)! switching to a more suitable paper made a HUGE difference when i was learning how to paint with gouache. i would have cried if you told me i had to paint on these cards when i was first starting out
@Lacroix999

I don’t see the point in painting on them. They’re super expensive (not sure even what real purpose they serve is besides being like paint swatches) and many of the artists making these cards paint mostly over them anyways not allowing the original color to shine through….which I thought was the purpose of painting one that partial color card-to be that colors palette’s inspiration.
FYI there is a polarizing lens that you can use when filming very shiney things, like these Pantone cards. When you have a glare, and it's hard to get a good shot of what you're painting because of it, you can use this lens that you can turn until your glare goes away. it's very cool! TenHundred did a video on it a few weeks ago.
I absolutely love working with gouache because it's water activated like watercolors but you can build it up so much better like acrylics. I took a color and composition class in college and this was the only medium we were allowed to use. I hated it at first but now it's definitely one of my favorites.
Great job! I love the fact that you show the full process, including the fails and struggles, it makes it so much more relatable 🙂 and the final piece really turned out very nice, first time gouache or not 😉
Wow. Girl, you said you were a beginner but those water drops are incredible! Love this as a first attempt you can be so proud!
I was cooking dinner whilst watching this, turned away for a moment and suddenly you created a masterpiece!! 😂 how did this painting just pop so quickly, you know??
Use clear gesso maybe that will work better. I only paint with gouache on watercolor paper because of the water absorption. I was really curious how you were going to achieve this painting. It looks really good because your a true artist. ❤
Pantober is already a thing! You are so funny!!! I really love how you are always nimble on your feet: able to get creative and clear the unexpected challenges!

I watched the shorts before this, and i was honestly surprised when you said you dont have much experience with any painting medium. I was sure you have a background in acrylics, since the way you mix colors and block the out (instead of blending), is just so... perfect. Every time i see the final result im blown away. Youre really great!
LOVE this idea! My prime issue with InkTober is the "only black ink" thing. I need COLOR!! A lot of people DO use colored ink now, and that I love! ❤️ Gouachetoberfest❤️
@Escherlife
Жыл бұрын
I don’t think only black ink is a rule for Inktober. You can use alcohol markers, coloured inks, any ink or alcohol ink medium. I even use Derwent Inktense pans, they are just like permanent watercolour 🤓
@elisadinsmore231

@@Escherlife Very cool! If you look up the "rules" by the original creator of inktober, it was black ink only (which boggled my mind). A lot of art KZreadrs who deviated had tons of people in the comments ragging on them for it. But after a few years, most (thankfully) incorporated colored ink.
I love how you talk through the whole process of what you're doing. It's fantastic to hear someone's thought process when making art!
You’re so right, the crisp highlights really made this piece come to life 🙌 great job!!!
i gotta say, at some point in the video this went from a hot mess of an 'ugly phase', to absolutely magic, right before my eyes lol. the highlights and your water effects really brought this together! you're sooo talented.
I’m wondering if using a clear spray primer may work better for this challenge? It. Turned out amazing though ❤
I love how she looked so proud after she put water on the dried gouache😊
It turned out so so good, although i personally am a bit let down because the Pantone background completely got forgotten lol.

I think the painting turned out amazing! I did question the very early decision to paint the background black though, doesn't that kind of defeat the whole purpose of using the pantone colours?
My suggestion for the next painting is a ocean and cloudy weather on a grayish blue card
It looks so realistic for your first time! You’re so good Temi! OMG! This is the best painting I’ve EVER seen❤❤❤
Wow, this turned out very nice! I wasn’t sure you could bring it back from the gesso part in the beginning - lol. Also, that shade of pink top looks lovely on you.
Hi there Temi, really nice end result. I was a bit worried there at the start lol, but you masterfully pulled it all together and the drip effect looks great!! Looking forward to following on with the rest of the months artwork. Best wishes from Australia
good luck with your pantober challenge! I could never do a challenge that long, but I'm hype to see your work this month. Don't feel stress when doing it and honestly, skipping some days can be beneficial
There’s just this random moment when circles with random blobs of white become drops of water. It’s amazing.
Gouache always needs water basically! I was told melted ice cream consistency. That really helps I think. I absolutely love gouache. I spent a while watching people use it before going in and it helped so much
Absolutely brilliant!! Well done, and I’m looking forward to the rest of this challenge!
I just bought a set of 18 Himi gauche, haven’t opened them yet, I can’t wait to use them!

This was amazing for a first time! Loved how real the leaves looked!
OML HOW DID U DO THAT!?!?!?!?!?!?! Ur art's amazing and u can make anything look better!!!
Oh girl!! I knew as soon as I saw that Gesso tube!! Gesso is known for being like the most opaque white or black if using black Gesso. They also make it in clear, too!!
Omg that turned out so good!!! The highlights and everything!!
Oooo so pretty, I haven’t painted in a while and you’ve gave me the inspiration to. I might do a watercolour painting! 🫶
This turned out so beautifully!!!
I've been trying to get the hang of Gouache for months now (I use both acrylics and watercolour usually so I thought it would be easy) and I can't even comprehend how well you did on that first attempt! Really really good! :D
Finally! I've been dying for a video.💜
I'm watching this again right now after a year and looking at your recent pantone cards gives me deja vu👌
What beautiful paintings! ❤ Love it Temi!
I've been following you on IG and watching your guache journey there. This is the first time I've watched your first attempt, and VERY kindly - WOW you have improved!!
Just found your channel and you are SOOOO Inspiring, Temi!!!! I loved this!
This was such a cool challenge idea!! The paintin came out awsome! I own some Arteza gouache, and just tried it out not too long ago. Deff a learnin curve (i typically use watercolors and colored pencils, but wanted to try somethin different). Cant wait to see the other paintins! Maybe in the next few months i can attempt this challenge, right now im workin overtime and goin to school so i cant rn.
I love your nails so much Temi!!!
I love your video's. Such an inspiration!
I am really looking forward to seeing how good you’ll be at the end of the month! This was so good right now. By month’s end I’ll think you took up photography!

WOW it’s actually really amazing as a first attempt in gouache i really do hope to get see more gouache paintings from you ur really talented 🤍
It's a masterpiece so beautiful and realistic I love it! Keep going
Way to persevere. Excited to see how you progress 🤗
I am painting with gouache for my inktober alternative challenge this year too! There exists clear gesso so you can reserve some of the pantone background color :D I use clear gesso myself on wood slices when I draw or paint on them to keep the wood texture visible in the artwork.
I'm in love with this piece
Amazing painting! Thanks for sharing!💜😄
I’m so excited to see your journey!
It looks great! Very realistic….WELL DONE👏🏾
It turned out REALLY good omg. I’m looking forward to the next 30 days to this pantone challenge 💕
What if you do a sunset in a field of flowers on a blue or pink card?
Well done Temi!!
Love your art work with the dew drops on the leag, very erll done🍃
If you put the middle palette on then put the whole thing in a snap lock bag then click the top lid on, they’ll stay juicy and won’t mould - mine are going on 16+ months now and are still the same as day one……and I’ve never had to use water or glycerine to keep them jelly 🤗
The water looks so cool!
You nailed it girl!
You are literally incredible.

Your painting looks so good
Loved this and how you were able to turn it around! It actually came out super nice and love the light effect on the water droplets! Also another thing if you find gouache to be tricky because of the water control, maybe it could be interesting to try out acryla gouache! It works like gouache with the water property you can dilute it, but also after it dries out it's like acrylic paint and wont reactivate when you add water or paint on top of an existing layer, which can be interesting to paint with when you want more opaque consistency :)!
Your art is so great😍🤩
you did it! Good job
10:10 right when she said perfect time for a break an ad came on
Your water droplets are just perfect well done, though hal way through I didn't think it was coming to anything, you killed it in the end, it was great.
