Skratch Labs used to make savory Energy Bars but looks like they discontinued them and now just do some not-as-sweet bars instead.

Wow I just did nearly this same ride on my own a few days before you, except I took Crown Zellerbach. Sure wish I had waited for this video to come out before I left! ☺️

Great video. I have grown to love the Banks-Vernonia trail this (Covid) year! Also agree about the savory powerbars (enough with the sugar sweet already) ... and the puppy cut on the Yorkie looks stellar.

Same with meal replacement drinks, they are all sweet 😏 The closest I could find to savory energy bars are those EPIC bars, but they are basically beef jerky, except they taste worse than jerky.

Skratch labs has some savory bars... one is a miso and crushed red pepper and the other is Parmesan,Sun Dried Tomatoes and Black Pepper.

for the KAROO, it looks like you actually want a Garmin 830: mapping, activity profiles and a much better battery life than the karoo + ecosystem - Varia Radar, Index weight, can connect to Bontrager light network etc.

I own both… The Karoo’s screen is worlds better. Karoo’s screen is snappy and much higher resolution maps. Karoo is like a smart phone. The Garmin looks like 1980’s technology.

Did my first +100km (5h20 109.81km 527m) ride on the single speed this week.

I am so with you on the need for savory energy bars. Keep thinking I'll make my own. I have made my own curry breakfast granola and love it so . . . maybe I should try my hand at a bar. Or we could just keep eating real food with high fat content so we can get in the needed 2000+ calories. My stomach likes real food better when I'm pushing my system.

There are the Buffalo bars that are mostly savory. They are not vegetarian however. I also get really tired of sugar sugar sugar.

Nice ride-I am so jealous of those roads and trails, either you edited all the traffic out or there wasn’t any? Broken hip-which is slowly getting better-says no long Autumn ride for me this year-cardiology says no riding at all until they sort my heart out……so I need you to keep riding so I can at least get a fix vicariously. Sad isn’t it?-oh, and another thumbs up for savoury bars-enough of the sickly sweat stuff already!

Skratch labs makes a good savory energy bar!

If I want great maps for exploring: Android Phone, Locus Map Pro, maps with bike profile, and a powerbank (for battery life) - I use an old Sony Xperia Z3 for this. As I am riding with a handlebar bag all the time I have plenty of room for a power bank (without this the phone dies after 4-5h). The map feature is the reason why I do not use my Bolt that often. If I had to buy a new computer: Garmin Edge 1030, nothing else.

Dustin - Although not an energy bar, Epic makes a line of savory protein bars, that are meat based. I agree though. Savory is nice from time to time. There are days on the bike where the last thing I want is peanut butter mouth while I'm breathing heavy up a mountain.
