    Burdo is a boss, so good having TT on the camera etc and getting good shots of the build. You see it so often when fellas try and film and swing spanners the really interesting work often doesn't get filmed simply because it's so hard to do both (more so when covered in grease and oil)

    Barras can make 1100nm at the wheels at olny 3000rpm @ only 15psi, ie, enough to break all the cvs. How much more torque do you want ? I have run 24psi in mine, a FG falcon, and it can be way too much on the treet for street tyres - traction is the limiting factor. If you wan to go all out, street driven partially grouted factory block and head barra can make 2500hp at the wheels.

    Main reasons were a good low KM FTE is nearly 20k, we would still be stuck with the cruiser 4 speed auto. Wanted to keep the car auto and the ZF 6 speed auto are very good strong box. And wanted a powerful petrol to have some fun in and beach runs etc, FTE would be more suited if we were going for a tourer I reckon. Plus barra conversion gives a more content and I was interested in doing an engine conversion from a different brand car as haven't done that before

    3.5 hours just to do the valve springs while it's on the engine? Yes it would have been quicker to remove the head but then you are up for a head resurface and head bolts too. I used to do this sort of work on old cast iron engines (Valiant sixes to be precise) because the valve guide seals used to dry out. On them you could remove the head, clean it up an only be up for a head gasket. You never replaced the head bolts and you could get away without resurfacing the head if it was cold when you pulled it apart. Not with modern engines though.

    I don’t think the Barra will be better on fuel than the 1fz . My turbo Ute averages about 17L/100 - 12L/100 driving like grandma . My old fzj80 wasn’t bad on fuel turbo 1fz also wasn’t to bad on fuel . Recommend a ZF tune the factory tune is dog doo . Still something different and interesting. 👌

  • @76Bushy

    @76Bushy

    I guess it depends on tyre size and dead weight bolt ons . Your old 1fz sounds like it wasn’t healthy at 22L that’s more like fzj105 fuel figures , being a heavier car . A stock fzj80 will average about 15L/100ks . Agreed on the ZF a massive improvement . Very interested to see the end result you may have started a new trend 😂

    Bit slack Tyler, you should be doing the cleaning work, bucket some diesel a tooth brush, bottle brush's etc, filming can be done on a tripod and where's Demi, she wrecked it, should be rolling up the sleeves too! In all this while Burto's doing the mechanics, could have sand blasted the transfer case or at least degreased it with some elbow grease, re coated it, same with the timing cover, looks terrible all pitted and oxidized. I never understand why people who take things out never clean parts or housings, when its out, too simple! the 80 deserves better. Spending all this money and don't give it the care it needs to make it last a life time, just a pet peave of mine, with tubers! It really makes a difference afterwards and while ya dont look at it while driving, imo ya feel very satisfied when ya have cleaned up these parts better than from the Factory, they last and are protected better its an investment in your investment, def need to put Tyler to more work, he has to start at the bottom and work his way up and prep work cleaning is the most important aspect, but also the most time consuming prob why ya ignored it! but also where ya learn the most, but as usual guys good work, its coming together, still disappointed its not a Toyota motor, I know its not cheap but an FT is cheaper than a FTE even that would have appeased the Toyota gods, now walk the plank, will it bow, be reliable or have another off road wreck at Bunnings, that's what happens when ya upset the Toyota gods, anything anywhere, you never know, haha, still its good content enjoying something different, Burto makes it great as usual. cheers guys 🤘

    I hate it when people bolt brand new shiny parts onto a dirty old motor/gearbox 🤣 At least hit it with some degreaser and a wire brush first so it's not covered with two decades worth of dirt!

    Disagree. You are missing the point mate, The number 1 requirement of this build is a quality video, the secondary is actually a functioning car. having TT behind the camera is way more valuable in the bigger picture to get a decent video. Yeah, if it was just these two blokes in a shed doing a swap, everyone needs to jump in. But yeah makes me cringe seeing the transfer case/motor being stripped down without being cleaned properly first.

    My pet peeve is when people basically call me lazy because I'm paying someone to do mechanical work (who is way more skilled and funny on camera then me) and dismiss the huge amount of hours it takes editing, filming, running social medias, phone calls to sponsors and companies, the extra work I do for companies myself on weekends to pay for how much these builds and episodes cost, thumbnails etc etc etc to get a quality video out every single week. I can't run a successful KZread channel and business myself, that's why I pay people to help. If I'm not there helping I'm over on the computer working my ass off to create and run and manage all this content I also don't really see much point when we are extremely busy, spending hours cleaning a component that is under a car, above a crossmember and getting caked in mud and sand anyway to never be seen again. We did consider sand blasting the timing cover but never got around to it, figured this 80 will cop a built barra at some point anyway to handle bigger power

    I can't think of anything more ironic than putting a ford engine in a Toyota.
