Here is a helful copypasta that I found in youtube comments (spoilers free) So in order to avoid any confusion regarding the time travel mechanics, I will break down what type of Time travel we're dealing with here. AOT operates by a particular type of time travel where it's almost impossible to change the past even if you somehow go back in time. And any change that you tried to cause was always meant to happen in the overall timeline. Here time is a fixed circle, not a stream. We may see Eren meddle in the past but that was always meant to happen. The Attack Titan's ability is to receive the memories of its future inheritors. This was hinted when Kruger mentioned Mikasa and Armin towards the end of S3. Keep in mind, they can only view these memories but can't interact with them. So how was Eren able to meddle in the past? Well, he had 3 perfect conditions: 1. He had the ability of the Attack Titan 2. The ability of the Founding Titan 3. He was also in contact with someone with royal blood AKA Zeke. After Zeke tapped Eren's head, they were able to view Grisha's past memories with Eren using the power of the coordinate. They were freely able to view the past as if it were through a one way mirror. Now if Eren had any other Titan other than the Attack Titan, he would only be able to look. But since Attack Titan can see forward in time, Grisha can use this to see Eren's recollection of the same event that he's currently experiencing in real time. So this mean that whenever Grisha can see or hear Eren, he's actually recieving a brief future memory from Eren's POV where he can see out of his eyes and hear his words. That means he is seeing himself from a 3rd perspective. Then if he responds, his response is simply part of the memory that Eren/Zeke are viewing, allowing for a two way communication through time. Also Note that everytime, Grisha sees Zeke, Eren is always standing behind his dad. So whenever Grisha sees Zeke, it is actually due to the memories from Eren's POV Another thing to add: Eren did NOT see everything in the future. Eren only saw CRUCIAL moments in the future, for example, he saw Pieck pointing a gun at him when he kissed Historia's hand 4 years ago, this is why he was so calm when she threatened to shoot him, because Eren KNEW she wouldn't shoot him. However, Eren DIDN'T know that Porco was going to try to eat him just a couple of minutes later. Even Eren doesn't know EVERYTHING that will happen. Also, this isn't my comment, I did not make this, ALL CREDIT GOES TO u/ Skyclad_Observer

@@yamikagevg7841 I know you're not the original poster. But. Rather than meddling with the past, it really just what it is. When Eren kissed Historia's hand, he knew what would happen in the future. He saw his dad, his future self, and old Zeke. But that teen Eren didn't know how he will get there, he just knew he would. This can explain how he is so confident in fighting Marley when they came in with zeppelins, despite Yelena giving sound advice to lay low and escape. This also explain how his face changed when he noticed that this bearded Zeke seems to be felt/noticed by past Grisha. He understood then "Ah this is it, this is how it happened, how my near future self will tell Grisha what to do." That's why he keep saying "Next." Next and next 😂

It hurts me. Zeke got the closure he deserved from his father who he hated. He got to see that Grisha hate what he put him through. Something that in the real world you can get. Once that person dies, that’s it. It’s emotional to see that Grisha and Zeke have that moment.

Thank you for shutting up (and I mean this in the nicest way) and absorbing impactful scenes instead of just talking/yelling/ranting over them like a lot of "fast food" reaction channels on this website. A lot of times with Attack on Titan there are very emotionally impactful scenes that only strike a chord if you don't interrupt it by chatting with others (or just talking over everything if you're a solo reactor). Things like music cues and voice acting performances get drowned out by just the non stop talking I see so often when that kinda stuff could easily just be said in the discussion after. You've kept a nice balance ever since your season 3 reactions and that's why I subscribed back then, glad to see it still happening even now.

@@bokis27 I kept it vague on purpose so people could fill in the blank themselves with who they think those are without personally calling people out. I'll be more specific and give an example of one of the categories I'm talking about though. If you search "attack on titan reaction" on KZread and sort the results by upload date, any reaction that gets uploaded within ~6-7 hours of the Japanese airing is usually horrible (those uploaded before around 5 pm EST). Little to no discussion, reacting to really bad subs which completely destroys interpretation of scenes or getting full impact out of them, get-it-out-instantly-for-views content with little knowledge about the details of the plot and character dynamics. They're the ones that make it into the first set of react compilations (because those uploaders start gathering content to make a video asap and those are the only reactions available for them to pick from). You kinda just watch them to tide you over until the good ones come out later in the evening/tomorrow and for immediate reactions to big moments. I also have specific KZread channels (with 5k, 10k, 20k or even in the 100k+) in my head that I'd classify as "fast food"/low quality regardless of if they upload later with good subs/short discussions but I don't wanna name names and just wanted to make it about the point I'm trying to make.

Eren whispered in Isayama's ear and told him to write this story On a serious note, it's really scary how Grisha, someone who was so anti-Marley and pro-Eldia, saw one glimpse of Eren's plan and was like, "Zeke. You have to stop him." Despite Grisha's hate for Marley and how far he was willing to go, even HE thought his plan was too far. He was genuinely horrified. Whatever Eren's plan is, Grisha does not want it to happen. Speaking of, Zeke and Grisha finally getting to work out their issues and hug each other in a moment of pure love is really heartwarming. Grisha understood his mistakes when raising Zeke before. Instead of only treating him as a tool, he treats him as his son. Zeke is finally able to take his first step towards closure after years of trauma. Even if they had their differences, Grisha and Zeke can at least agree with one thing: Stopping Eren..

Kind of correct. There is no timeline. Think of this whole show like a 4th dimension written by the author. Everything that we, the audience, perceive as past present and future had already happened (because that's how the the author intended it to be. The author is only showing us what he wants to show us just like eren is only showing his dad what he wants to show him) the author picks this specific time in a timeless space of attack on titan to tell us a story. We just need to keep seeing it through now to know why he kept showing us only glimpses of what is going on.

When I read Grisha's remorse and begged for forgiveness to Zeke in the manga I was like "yeah, sad" but here man... the music, the voice acting, the animation, it really made me feel for them. 18:42 I have to dissagree, Eren seemed really surprised when he heard Sasha was shot, which means he did not know it would happen, and he laughed after that as if fate was kidding with him. You guys are misunderstanding some fundamental informations about the Attack titan's ability that could make the story seem to contain plot holes. The attack titan's ability is seeing the future, but not in the way you guys assumed. It's the ability to feed memories back to the previous/past inheritor (which is what path Eren is doing right now, because Eren is also in the Coordinate that could transcend time and space at the moment, you can actually say the Attack titan has this ability is because Eren triggers it), that's why Grisha was asking Eren why he did not show him everything. Eren saw the future, but not all, only the memories that was fed to his father by his future-self. Eren is the mastermind behind everything.

The 145th king of Eldia Karl Fritz saw the horrors of the great titan war, I.e pure titans consuming 1000’s of innocent Marleyans and other eldians and the callous nature of his fellow eldians to be okay with the barbarism, and thought this vile behavior must end. He worked with the Tyburs to subvert the other titan wielders and simultaneously set up the walls on paradise island. He believed that having committed such atrocities and with the ability to turn into mindless monster that consume everything endlessly, all eldians must be contained, he made a vow to renounce all war and sealed it with the founding titan as there’s no guarantee that another king with omnipotent power wouldn’t use pure titans to terrorize the world again. I’m fact his vow was so certain that he was willing to let all eldians die before they could ever potentially take another non-eldian life. The vow also restricted future wielders ability to use the full power of the founding titan. The only difference between the king and Zeke is that euthanasia would stop eldians existence within a generation while the king was happy to wait until the world decided to eradicate them. It’s not that the king blames the current eldians for the crimes of the past it’s simple that if the current eldians knew what they were and their capabilities there is no guarantee that power wouldn’t go to their heads and they begin the cycle all over again, so it’s better if they just die. The attack titan can it future wielders memories and only the memories the future wielders allow to be seen. The Attack Titan essentially is fighting against the king saying give us the freedom to make that choice. The only issue is now you have Erebus who so radically desires freedom that he’ll destroy the world for it, even Grisha thinks that’s going too far.

Grisha is looking at Eren's POV, hence he never commented on Eren's appearance, but Zeke's as a bearded old man and saying has grown up so much etc. Technically Grisha is hugging air in real life back then. Grisha is seeing Zeke and himself at Eren’s view and proceeded to hug him. Just like the two key scenes in the episode where Grisha is frightened and shook, because he saw himself in Eren’s pov when Eren is directly looking at him.

So in order to avoid any confusion regarding the time travel mechanics, I will break down what type of Time travel we're dealing with here. This calls into the question of the existence of free will in the world of Attack of Titan. So whenever Grisha sees Zeke, it is from actually due to the memories from Eren's POV

That scene with Grisha crying and losing it, that scene broke me hard. I even heard from my fellow manga readers that it was done so good by MAPPA. Jesus... It's hard to swallow the pill that make us accept the truth. Eren is the monster, always was. Btw: I think what you meant with the crying because of anxiety is because it is to much information to take in, to much to accept. Almost like five steps of denial, we are still not at acceptance yet.

  • @nny2055

Hey, guys! It's a long text, so don't read it! It's shitty English. Seeing the future and the past would be a metaphor for "certainty. To be able to see only a part of the future means that one can only connect to as much of the future as one can imagine. They wouldn't be able to access the past if they didn't know about it at all. The owl decided on Grisha so he could recognize Armin and Mikasa. Grisha heard the child Eren's thoughts about going outside the walls and decided on his mission and became aware of the future. And it seems that she definitely recognized the adult Eren. In the church, Grisha was touched by Eren's madness and saw Eren's horrible future. Also, it's not a time machine that can see memories. I think the memory images we see in anime are not exactly seeing the scene, but just visualizing the connection of consciousness. That's why Zeke is not actually hugging his father. He just understood him. I think. It's natural that your impression of the scene in this episode is different from your memory of it from the past series. Maybe Eren doesn't even notice that he's changed. Even normal people change their impressions of their past memories when they grow up. Without being aware of it. What's disgusting is that if you saw a situation like that, you'd be disgusted by the whole thing, and if you saw a completely different side of your beloved father, you'd despair. A doppelganger Ellen is possible, but I feel like it would ruin the whole story. three or four Ellens is ..... It doesn't necessarily mean that Eren actually whispered it. I'm sure Grisha felt it though. I think Eren would just think, "I guess we were connected then." I haven't read the manga. But guys! It' s all about interpretation of their words and actions! Also, I could be totally wrong about all of this. lol

Think about it like this, the attack titan is unlike any other being, let alone any other of the 9 titans. We as people are influenced by our past/past experiences because that’s all we know, similar to the other 8 titans. The other 8 “remember” and are influenced by their past users. BUT, The attack titan sees both its past AND future users’ memories, and is influenced in a timeline backwards to what we know as normal causality for us. Because what is more influential on your actions, a memory? Or a call to fulfill your duty in a predetermined role?? One destined by your son, in years to come… Another example of the Attack titan difference: Ymir memories go to Galliard then to Falco(forward) BUT Eren Yeager memories go to Grisha Yeager then to Eren Kruger(backward) as well as forwards It’s just tough for us watching the show to grasp the concept that season 1 Grisha was influenced by an Eren that we, at the time, didn’t know yet. All in order to, later on, allow Eren to get to the point where he influences Grisha in the past. Yes its a loop, but its def a closed/fixed loop

Last episode was a 10/10. This deserves more than 10/10. As a manga reader, they did this more than justice. Just some tips for anyone still 1confused. I don’t think these are spoilers, but I give a warning anyway…. Grisha, Kruger and every attack Titan holder before that have been working according to the memories sent by the future chad Eren. Eren sent his memories back in time to create the perfect environment for him to steal the founding titans power in the future and destroy the world. Remember, out of all the 9 titans, the attack Titan had always been in search of freedom, free from the founding titans control. Why do you think that is? Eren had been influencing them all. About Grish seeing Zeke at only certain times….. Grisha actually doesn’t see Eren or Zeke in HIS real time. No,Grisha sees them through the memories Eren sent him. In this case, the memory of Zeke and Eren traveling through Grishas memories, is the exact memory Eren had sent him. Notice that every time Grisha sees Zeke,Eren is standing right behind Grisha? In other words,Grish I seeing it through Erens perspective. And also when Eren told Grisha to slaughter the kids…he didn’t hear it in real-time. He has been given the memory where Chad Eren whispers that to Grisha. Aka,Grishas hearing a memory of Eren coaxing him to kill the kids. That in turn affect him in HIS real time. AND when Grisha shows the key to chad Eren ,he really doesn’t see him,but he has a general idea of where Eren is standing in the room, because of the memories he’d been given from the future(which are from Erens perspective). That’s why he doesn’t speak about how much Eren had grown, because he literally can’t see him. Only see himself through future Erens perspective, aka memories. Just GENIUS writing
