True true, Grisha (in Marley) wanted a passionate, patriotic, charismatic and somewhat vengeful type of leader who can lead a people and pay all prices no matter how high, in other words Eren Yeager. On Paradis he wished for a calm, intelligent, cool headed, understanding mind, that can keep their sanity even when things suck real bad. A man who can gain influence with groups of people and the higher ups even if he can't take their place. Most importantly though, he wanted a visionary, a man with a plan who can fix the world and still the cycle of hatred and bring comprise. This is Zeke Yeager.

@bo vermouth Fair point, I think they're all great characters and I respect them from that angle. But still that doesn't really justify their actions imo. Willy wants to commit genocide on all of humanity in the walls, the vast majority of whom are completely innocent. It's messed up. And Floch has no problem killing innocent people either, like the Eldians in the internment zone or even people like Commander Pixis being poisoned with the wine. It's funny because if more people were like Armin then the world wouldn't be in this situation. The whole world is fucked because the cycle of hatred just keeps growing and both sides are escalating it. This whole idea of "The entire world thinks we deserve to die and there's nothing we can do to change that" is pretty absurd, I get why Armin wouldn't want to accept that as the only option. I don't so much see it as he's a slave to the worlds desires, more like he follows an ethical code. To Eren the ends justify the means, to Armin they don't. I do like hearing other perspectives. What makes this story so great is there are so many ways of interpreting things from a moral standpoint, its very grey just like real life.

I really like the dichotomy of Zeke and Eren, Zeke wishes that he was never born, he never had any friends, his parents didn't love him, the world hated him, the only dream he had is to not suffer. Eren had a loving family, he had friends and a dream superior to simple survival. That's why Zeke believes that life is not worth living but Eren believes no matter how awful life is there are still things to live for, one had no love and the other did. "The greatest salvation is to never be born." "We are special because we were born in this world!" Truly genius writing.

Well said. This is why I think Eren doesn’t see the birth of another Eldian as a curse, but rather a blessing. His mom always made him feel special despite him always doubting himself. The same thing cannot be said about Zeke who was ACTUALLY special, but his parents used him as a tool instead of a son. Eren and Zeke are opposites in terms of their life/birth ideologies.

Or does he mean that he'll kill all Marleyans? His ideals seems to be more around ending the pain of the Eldians by eradicating their race. The sign of a great villain/antihero/antagonist is when you disagree with them completely, but can completely understand how they formed their beliefs, and why they're the way that they are. Attack on Titan has like 30 characters just like this, Zeke is one of them.

Zeke is only antihero to viewers/Paradis because we’ve seen him on the other side. I don’t agree with Zeke’s plan or accept his crimes , but since he could walk he was drilled into his mind that he was the saviour of Eldia. And he truly believes that. But he’s saving Eldia in his own way and not how Dina and Grisha expected. Zeke truly doesn’t want any more deaths like his aunt, or Ksavers child etc. Good intentions albeit slightly twisted and a depressive one, but it’s the one he believes is the betterment of his race rather than continuously suffer in the “ cold brutal world” he labels

Mainly because last time I debated him on the subject of AOT, he resorted to insults and ad hominems because I had the nerve to ask for a source. I thought he was smart and mature, but the mask came off and he revealed himself to be a pretentious asshole. AOT absolutely overuses flashbacks. There are plenty of times when they're important to use, such as providing certain character backstories. But they shouldn't be used to fill in the blanks for stuff that could have been done earlier perfectly fine. It's a much bigger problem early on in the series, Isayama got better with it as he did with almost everything. I am way less intelligent in real life than I come across in KZread comments, but I have Discord. That's about it.

It's clear that I made the right decision to move away from his channel, no point talking to someone who is so far up his own ass like that. Yeah, I saw his reply, I was just busy with a lot of shit at that time, and didn't find the time to mount a response. He made some good arguments in there, along with some bad ones. I especially like the one where he says: "Ah, yes, it SEEMS like Armin failed because they were about to kill him. But the fact that Pyxis comes in last minute to stop everything means that he actually succeeded." Like, that doesn't change the fact that Armin's speech failed to convince them. By the time I had enough time, it had already been a few weeks. So I decided to wait until he made another video on AOT and talk there. Then he went full mask off and revealed himself to be an arrogant asshole.

Zeke is the best character in aot

You made me hate him for almost 2 seasons and then feel sorry for him, understand him, and care a little bit for him. Isayama you are a genius! This anime is epic on so many levels, I can't even count all of them. But I think the most important lesson is to never judge someone by his looks or even actions, everybody has a hidden story inside him that explains his actions or his point a view. I am so overwhelmed, is like Naruto's vibe that there is something good in all of us, but on a different level, more complex and more painfully at some points. I just can't stop loving this show and I hope it won't break my heart too much...

Several sagas are full of problems, the fourth ninja war is full of plot holes. But take individually certain characters, which I mentioned earlier. Consider the Pain saga, the philosophy of pain and Nietzsche's superman. AoT is an almost perfect work, which I love very much, with few defects compared to Naruto ... but it is natural: naruto is an infinitely larger and more complex work, long and full of characters. So save yourself some criticism without arguments, you just look like a child. Here we were talking about Itachi and Zeke.

Attack on Titan has the best story imo And its the best anime in our generation IMO

Zeke is sooo different from everyone else that I couldn't even grasp his perspective at first. So many alive character in just one anime, this is so unique, I love it.

As a father episode 15 of season 4 made me think a lot about the impact we can have on our children and even scared me a little. This episode is a masterpiece in itself

Everyone is good in there own way. Gabi for protecting her country and friends and getting revenge . Eren for killing Marley . Zeke for stopping future suffering . Erwin: Who do you think is the true enemy here ?

he has no special value for someone his humanity side is weak, I don't want to sound rude but how do you trust a man that sold his parents yet ate the one who convinced him, I don't hate the man he could actually be good but you can easily tell he lacks love and humanity, both Grisha and Ksaver are responsible for creating the poor heartless kid.

The Best thing about AOT is that it picks its moments for its character very smartly , for example just after or before something big is going to happen it shows the perspective of all the characters differently and doesn't justify them , take example of Zeke only in episode 14 all of us (anime only) were rooting for Levi to destroy him , but just after watching episode 15 we r in a painful agony , whether to still hate Zeke or feel bad for him (due to his unfortunate past) .

I really enjoyed Zeke's backstory in the anime more than when I read it in the manga. They really tugged at the heart strings with the piano at 4:32. Couldn't help but cry at child Zeke's innocence and wanting to just be a kid and get his parents' love and approval. Very misunderstood character.

Just like Reiner, Bertholdt and Annie were the antagonists to Paradis in the first 3 seasons (and we all know that they weren't villains, since they didn't have a choice), Zeke is the main antagonist to everyone except himself and Mr Ksaver. Zeke does have his motives and is an excellently written character, but there is no denying that he is the main antagonist, from the protagonists' perspective.

Seeing as nothing about the war has changed, I think Zeke's plan might have been a more merciful solution.

The most intelligent character in the show. And honestly the true hero. He sought out the most peaceful way to save the world without the Eldians or other countries needlessly dying.

I think its a cowardly solution. His idea stems from his childhood trauma. He never had a happy life, his parents never really loved him as they should have. No friends and the only father he knew died in just a few years. He genuinely thinks that life is meaningless and not being born is the greatest salvation. So he intends to stop Eldians from making children. It would solve the eldian problem, but I think that the hate towards them would still exist until they're eradicated. It doesn't solve the hate and racism toward his people, and killing all of them is the easiest option. But is that the right option? I think not, and that's why I'm sure Eren has a completely different plan

I love the extreme contrast on Zeke and Eren's worldview and opinions on life itself, and their ideas for the future of Eldians. And both manage to somehow be framed as valid perspectives because the characters are so fleshed out and feel incredibly human. I think that's my favorite thing about this show- even though it's a completely fantasy setting, and animated, it manages to touch on the very essence of being human. It's beautiful to me

I believe I finally understand the message of AOT. It's the story of how an innocent child became a monster. Not a justification, just an explanation. Somehow I pity Eren but what he did was wrong

Zeke’s character really shows that no philosophy is truly objectionably moral. Don’t get me wrong, antinatalism a crooked philosophy to me, and in this society, its values are incongruent with what we are raised to see as right. But you cannot tell me that anyone who is a practical utilitarian cannot admit Zeke’s plan as the objectively best plan considering the serendipity of not just Eldians, but humanity alike. Well done, Isayama. Never thought my favourite character in any series would be an antinatalist.

I agree. And as much as I love Paradis and it’s citizens (due to growin up with them as a viewer) it makes sense. The world will never stop it’s relentless fear and anxiety of Eldains. So there will always be deaths like Faye or Ksaver’s child where it’s discriminate.

This is I think what makes Zeke such a great character. Basing himself off the liberal principle that all human life is equal and you should act to protect everyone regardless of your connection to them, he acts perfectly rationally even as he attempts to wipe out his own people. Contrasted to Eren’s nationalist outlook which aims to secure those close to him, his community, and his country at the expense of foreigners.

Because the world we live in is a competitive world and other lives have to go through hell in order to live the decent lives you mentioned. There is no ethical explanation for this. The source of all evil in this world is reproduction. Because their children will either go through hell or be the cause of hell for others. I don't think instinctive minds that can't empathize and only think about themselves can understand this.

there are many sad backstories in aot but other than ymir's, zeke's hit me the hardest because its pretty relatable, your parents wants you to be the best and has high hopes for you but you just end up dissapointing them even when you try your best also the fact that he wasnt born an angry brat like eren or levi, he was an innocent and kind kid like falco, he was even thanking mr. ksaver when he thought he was about to die, he just happens to be in the wrong time with the wrong parents

Erwin was my favorite character until he died and After that I decided to read manga and now Zeke is one of my favorite characters... It's not like you have to hate someone in order to love another one. Maybe that's why I don't really hate anyone in this anime cuz they all are trying their best to save their people and they have their own reasons

zeke story is another type of pain

After reading 139 epsisodes, people will know only Zeke's plan is the best.

Ikr that's how aot ended.. they told it won't end till the world or Eldia gets destroyed. Zeke wanted Eldia to be ended without anyone to suffer anymore..

It always amazes me how there is NO perspective, you cannot just choose a side. Everybody has a story and everyone is a MC is their own way.

Fr at least Zeke had an actual plan. Eren was just insane and his goals were also unclear at the end.

​@@siu281 given the burdens he carries and the attack titan power, I don't know how anyone thinks eren is still sane. He isn't. I'd arge he's one of the best representations of the insane in media. A sane person wouldn't enact the full Rumbling. Fight, freedom, his immediate friends and maybe his name are the only things that individualize him as eren jeager at this point--there are too many memories that don't belong to him that now are part of him. Freedom is nothing but a concept and seeking it broke him. Some consider suicide as a way to "be free" and eren hasn't thought well of himself for a long time. By making himself the enemy, less would miss him when he dies. Eren believes he deserves nothing less than hell as punishment; he may get the power of the founder but it primarily ensures he will suffer.
